ARCHIVED Low Calcium Levels And Irregular Heart Beat
itchygirl replied to a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
The standard prescription stuff, which I know is poorly absorbed. We're going to switch to the shots if I'm not better by next month. My Vit. D when first tested was, I kid you not...13. And in the US the absolute minimum level is 32. My doc had seen someone with a D of 7, though. Cod liver oil makes me very nauseated, unfortunately. -
ARCHIVED Low Calcium Levels And Irregular Heart Beat

I assume the doc has checked you for hyperparathyroid secondary to low vit. D.? I'm on 15000 iu of D twice a week and can barely keep my levels up. Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Recently Diagnosed And Don't Know Where To Get Food.
itchygirl replied to pinkscooby6's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Contact the manager at your AAFES. I dunno about where you are but the PX/DX here has a ton of gluten-free food options if you want cookies, waffles etc. And their prices on natural (potatoes, eggs, steak) gluten free food can't be beat. If shopping is confusing, you may wish to contact someone at your base Autism/Auspergers support group. Many parents... -

More fun reading Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link If you are having severe pain you may wish to push for more diagnostics, as well as a better long term pain management choice than vicodin (too much tylenol). Alternative pain control methods, such as the duragesic patch, may be easier on both you and your liver. Vicodin is only good... -
ARCHIVED Nail Polish Remover
itchygirl replied to Yenni's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I thought nail polish remover was straight acetone? But I haven't used nail polish since 1972 so they could've changed that..... What are they doing with it now, adding oils to make it look "healthy"? You should still be able to get plain acetone, unless its something someone could make a bomb with.... -
Uh... does this mean I should not mention how good popcorn is with bacon grease?

ARCHIVED Tests Negative, Were They The Right Ones?
itchygirl replied to BuggysMommy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You may also want to read more on the anti-nuclear antibody test, since the doc appears to be dropping the ball on that.... Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED For Long-time Strict Gfers With Depression/anxiety
itchygirl replied to eLaurie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Celiac is a lot more than just a gut problem-its a systemic autoimmune disease which can have a profound neurological impact. This is an interesting article on anti-gangloside antibodies causing neuropathy in celiac.... Open Original Shared Link its really complicated. -
Just footnoting Ursa in case anybody wants to look further. Short Chain fatty acids and colon health is a wayyy interesting topic! Open Original Shared Link

Something else you may wish to consider if you're really really constipated and normal stuff (like added fiber, more water, prunes) is not helping is autonomic neuropathy, yet another condition which is linked to celiac disease Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link I got dx'd with this by my urilogist, after a rather annoying test I...

ARCHIVED Bob's gluten-free Oatmeal... Not gluten-free?
itchygirl replied to crittermom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I live on a farm and can't figure out for the life of me how the determine that the oats are gluten free. All it takes is a few "volunteer" wheat or any of the many gluten containing weeds (this place is absolutely overgrown with wild rye-and nothing kills it-the guy who rents the place did no till last year and there was rye everywhere) Does anybody know... -
ARCHIVED For Long-time Strict Gfers With Depression/anxiety
itchygirl replied to eLaurie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
As soon as I got my cholesterol up I feel better. My cholesterol was 98 due to malapsorption, now I still have to struggle to keep it about 150. Low cholesterol has been linked with depression, suicide-but there is an incredible amount of controversy about this so all I can really go on is my own personal experience. For every study like this Open... -
Coconut. I eat a Jennies macaroon every morning for breakfast. Coconut is great for bowel health. Jennies also has an even higher fiber gluten free coconut bar with flax, pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds which is quite tasty. I'd way rather have a Jennies macaroon than a bowl of cracking oat horse feed Unfortunately fiber has no effect on colon cancer...

I'm so glad you're getting great results with your diet. If your endo has read anything in the past five years then s/he will know about the connection between celiac and autoimmune thyroid disease. Unfortunately, so very many docs just do not keep up. Congratulations! And stick with it!

ARCHIVED Rather Graphic Question
itchygirl replied to dbmamaz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There are no allergy shots for food allergies. They may help with pollen or pet allergies. Just because you react to something on the RAST test is absolutely no indication that you will react to it when you eat it-RAST results are just a suggestion, not an absolute. I choose to eat anything that is not gluten and does not give me anaphylaxis. Cooking fruits... -
I was on Dapsone and it made me think I was walking sideways all the time. Plus I felt like I had the flu. A really bad flu. But the walking sideways thing was really annoying. It felt like I'd just gotten off a tilt-a-whirl or other circus ride.

That is so cool! I want to make a gingerbread house. I've only started being able to eat food again since my last surgery and I've always wanted a gingerbread house, every since I was little. -
Celiac disease also puts you at high risk for pancreatits, which causes severe pain whenever you eat. Has your doctor done any bloodwork, esp amylase and lipase? ARCHIVED Rather Graphic Question
itchygirl replied to dbmamaz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would so die on your diet. Melon makes my throat swell shut. Enjoy a nice melon for me.... What makes me crazy (well crazier ) about the docs passing out these "IBS" dx's is the IBS is supposed to be a diagnosis of exclusion, meaning that the doc is supposed too run all the tests for everything else that could possibly cause the symptoms, then they... -

ARCHIVED Poor Absorption Of Nutrients When On gluten-free Diet?
itchygirl replied to frec's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Durn it, according to your gastro I don't exist. I feel real but I must not be here. One thing you may wish to consider is pancreatic insufficency. This problem can keep you from absorbing fat soluble vitamins like D. I have this problem your poor gastro is not able to concieve of and have to take 15000 iu of D twice a week to keep my levels up.
