  1. When you try something new, just try a little bit the first time. That way you won't have such a severe reaction if you do react. Maybe that will make you a little less afraid.
  2. It was interesting for me to read about how so many people did better with supplementation. I did better when I removed all my supplements and vitamins. I think it was because I am sensitive to tiny amounts of cc. I did later add back vitamin D in the winter and iodine year around, very carefully sourced.
  3. I would say that if something makes you sick, don't eat it. Don't depend on whether or not it makes someone else sick. We all have different levels of sensitivity. That being said, it can be really hard to be certain about exactly what it was that made you sick. Keep a food/symptom journal, that can help.
  4. I think that you will need to start a food/symptom journal. Try eliminating things which might be a problem and adding things which should be safe. Only make one change per week as it can take awhile to notice symptoms. Something in your diet might be contaminated, or you could be having problems from lack of nutrients due to lack of variety. The complete...
  5. Tested to under 5 ppm could mean just under 5 ppm, zero, or anything in between. Rice Dream milk is tested to under 5 ppm: Open Original Shared Link yet, you have probably read many posts on this board from people who react to it. I'm not sure what the definition of super sensitive should be. Maybe it's those who react to some foods tested to under...
  6. I had skin issues which cleared up gluten free. I had sores on my scalp. They would pick off like huge flakes of dandruff, and they itched and hurt. I had sores on my hands and arms and legs to a lesser extent. They were like itchy little blisters which would scratch off. In the winter my hands would get dry and cracked despite bathing them in lotions...
  7. I don't take any vitamins, but I did try hard to find one. I made a lot of phone calls and asked a lot of questions and did a lot of elimination/trial diets. The best ones seemed to be Freeda. You could give those a try.
  8. Here is an article about celiac disease and skin conditions: Open Original Shared Link
  9. I've got the study in another window. They include beer, baby food and syrup as hydrolyzed. Then they talk about beer, pasta, breadcrumbs and cake. I'm not sure if they mean gluten-free or not, but they found 68 - 218 ppm, so that couldn't be regular gluten baked goods, right? Anyone have access to the full paper and want to tell us? If you click on...
  10. Are fermented foods considered hydrolyzed? Soy sauce is fermented and considered hydrolyzed. Does that mean that this study would apply to vinegar and grain alcohol?
  11. Different celiacs/gluten intolerants react to different levels of gluten. The large majority show no symptoms at all even on a normal gluten filled diet. The products that give no symptoms for one are different than the products that give no symptoms for another. Some of us feel that we need to avoid all processed foods. Others feel the need to grow most...
  12. This is a bit gross, but did your friend drink from it first? Does s/he eat gluten?
  13. The only sugar that I have found that I can tolerate is Volcano Island honey. It is expensive, but I can tolerate it. It might be worth a try if someone around there carries it. All the other sugar sources have bothered me except for sugar naturally occurring in foods. I even grew sugar beets and sugar cane to try to make my own, but that is seeming not...
  14. Uncle Ben's rice might not be the best choice. They have a number of products with a number of ingredients and some cc from one of them might be an issue. Why not go with Lundbergs which seems to be the best rice for sensitive celiacs? I have problems with most processed foods, and I can eat Birkett Mills whole groat buckwheat. That might be something...
  15. I'm not happy about it either. Just when I think that it isn't possible to get more sensitive, it happens. One positive thing about it is that my health continues to get better and better in-between crazy efforts with elimination/challenge diet studies to figure out what is getting me now. It's been over 4 years now and so far I have been able...
  16. I used to get regular migraine auras. I sometimes got them as often as daily. What would happen was my vision had wavy lines distorting it like when heat comes off a highway. It made me not able to see very well. It usually lasted about an hour and was not followed by a migraine. Lucky for me. They would come more often under stress, and I have only...
  17. I guess that if you react to a tiny bite of something tested to 10 ppm, then you can assume that you would react to a larger amount of something tested to 1 ppm, if that test were possible.
  18. I have been at this for over 4 years now and I get more and more sensitive as time goes on. My son was diagnosed at the same time and the exact same thing has been happening to him. I believe it is gluten and not other intolerances because I think that the likelihood of us developing the exact same intolerances at the exact same time is just too low. Also...
  19. Bubba's mom. What a difficult time. I hope that you are keeping a food/symptom journal. I have gotten by with that and many challenge/elimination studies. I wish you the best. It is really too bad the experts done know more about this condition at this time. At least we haven't been told to only eat bananas like in the old days.
  20. You can make your own yogurt. I've been doing it for awhile and it's not that hard. If you let it culture longer it will be more lactose free. During that process the lactose is transformed to lactic acid. Open Original Shared Link Yolo on this forum cultures hers for 24 hours. Some store bought yogurt has added milk solids to make it thicker so...
  21. Yeah! I'm glad you are doing better! I can't eat any of those things either and I still find enough to eat without eating gravel. You may help your doctor and some of his colleagues know how to help other super sensitives. Good for you.
  22. The power of the food journal. I made my own pasta for awhile. I used sorted and washed grain which I ground myself, and lots of eggs. I have since had to cut out eggs, so no more pasta.
  23. I think it is because it comes up with way too many positives. Fecal tests are designed to detect problems before intestinal damage occurs. That way it show positives when biopsies are negative so it considered incorrect. It's a bit of a "Catch 22" I think that's why he seems to have gotten fed up with the GI celiac community. He wants to help people...
  24. I know what you mean now, I was really rushed this morning so I didn't read as carefully as I might have. Maybe enterolab. Enterlab says that the fecal tests are more sensitive than the blood tests and pick up antibodies before intestinal damage occurs. That is their explanation for the false negatives. I don't know what to think about them. I know...
  25. First off, I am not a doctor or any sort of medical professional. I am a PhD chemist which does not qualify me to give medical advice. Test levels going down show that you diet is better. Test levels being negative do not show that your diet is perfect. That doesn't mean the tests are worthless. I had them. They aren't perfect. There isn't...
