ARCHIVED So Delicious Coconut Milk
dilettantesteph replied to GFreeMO's topic in Super Sensitive People
Certified gluten free to 5 ppm is better than certified gluten free to 10 ppm. I don't choose not to eat things out of fear. I choose to eat things after I have tried them and found out that they make me sick. That isn't fear. That is basic human intelligence. I did not post that. I just posted that I had a reaction to it. I even said that... -
ARCHIVED So Delicious Coconut Milk

I'll assume you mean ppm and not %. You are incorrect. Pretty well, if we are talking whole numbers and something is under 10 ppm, it will have between zero and 9 ppm. I suppose it isn't absolute proof. There are limitations to testing procedures. It is possible that there is more than that. Is that what you meant? -
ARCHIVED So Delicious Coconut Milk
dilettantesteph replied to GFreeMO's topic in Super Sensitive People
I'm amazed at the backlash from a simple reply to a simple question. I am super sensitive so I replied to a question aimed at super sensitives. Am I not supposed to do that? -
ARCHIVED Advil Liqui-Gels Contain Gluten!
dilettantesteph replied to zeeclass6's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I didn't know this. Thank-you for posting. It shows the importance of checking websites or phoning before putting things in our mouths. -
ARCHIVED For Those Who Are Grain Free And Low To No Beans/nuts
dilettantesteph replied to T.H.'s topic in Super Sensitive People
Molybdenum is inorganic. Metals are inorganic. I think you mean something like not organic. The inorganic/organometallic chemist in me is coming out again. -
ARCHIVED Huge Improvement Going Gluten Free
dilettantesteph replied to GFSAHmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We've had periods of time when we were figuring out cc issues for months and the growth dropped off again. We got to the doctor often in those periods. She showed us the growth chart one time and you can see him dropping off his growth line, and then getting back on it again as he has cc issues and then gets a good diet again. It was really remarkable... -

Sorry to split hairs, but as a scientist, I can't help myself. Especially as a scientist who worked in an analytical lab. or maybe it's the professor in me. Since the product is tested to a detection limit of 10 ppm gluten as discussed above, and tests are available with a detection limit of 5 ppm gluten, Open Original Shared Link your statement... -

Thank you for that information. I didn't know that. That explains a lot. -

In the first link they say that it is certified by the organization described in the second link. Would you like me to copy the portions of the links in particular? -
ARCHIVED So Delicious Coconut Milk
dilettantesteph replied to GFreeMO's topic in Super Sensitive People
You may ask. It was my typical gluten reaction. Of course, I can't guarantee that I react to lower levels than 10 ppm of gluten, though that has been well described in the literature: Open Original Shared Link I can't guarantee that it was a gluten reaction. I don't suppose that any of us can, for that matter. My doctors think so, and I agree... -
ARCHIVED Intolerent Or Allergic To Something More Than Just Gluten
dilettantesteph replied to Snafu's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I second the thought that it might be something in your normal gluten free meal. Have you changed anything about it recently? Changed brands of something? I also second the idea of keeping a food diary. That is very effective for figuring out what is bothering you, whether it be gluten cc or other food intolerances. -
ARCHIVED So Delicious Coconut Milk
dilettantesteph replied to GFreeMO's topic in Super Sensitive People
I noticed a reaction to So Delicious coconut milk back when I seemed to be able to tolerate things tested to below 5 ppm. I just looked it up and their products are tested to less than 10 ppm. I guess it would depend on your degree of super sensitivity. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Confused, Frustrated, Upset And Tired Of High Ttg Levels
dilettantesteph replied to Nannu's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I am very symptomatic, and very sensitive. I did better grinding my spices at home, but better still when I grew them myself. I found that the taste of whole foods is good without too many spices when you get used to it. Have you seen Tricia Thompsons study of gluten free grains? Open Original Shared Link Many are contaminated. I ground my own grains... -
ARCHIVED Pain Afterwards
dilettantesteph replied to GlutenFreeAustinite's topic in Sports and Fitness
My joint pain is gluten related, I think. It was quite bad before diagnosis, went away after gluten free, and comes back when glutened. I was very active with ballet and skiing and had to quit due to pain. I am now active again. I had swollen joints, such that I could no longer fit any rings on my fingers. My back was constantly out, and knees, ankles... -
I don't know if you are considering this, but there is often a delay between eating something and symptoms. For instance if I eat something on Monday that has cc. I will feel fine, mainly. I do notice irritability sometimes. It's the next day, Tuesday, when I feel the reaction and everything I eat will give me a stomach ache, even if it isn't any...

ARCHIVED What Do You Think I Can Add To This Diet? (Ideas)
dilettantesteph replied to Robert55's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Bariani olive oil. It is the only oil I have found that I can tolerate. I'm very sensitive. Things broiled in it are very good, and it adds calories. Wolff's whole grain buckwheat is another "processed" thing I can eat, though I do sort and wash. -

ARCHIVED Refractory Sprue
dilettantesteph replied to clee123's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I was symptomatic until I stopped eating processed foods. In fact, I had to give up salad dressings very early in my list. I personally wouldn't try a "very toxic med" until I tried a whole foods diet. There are many celiacs who cannot handle the trace amounts of cc which can appear in gluten free foods. ARCHIVED Getting Sick On Weekends
dilettantesteph replied to seigfriedj's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Is it possible that your birth control pills have traces of gluten so you are more sensitive to traces elsewhere? I recently read a post from someone who thought that she reacted to her pills. She thought that she was reacting to all sorts of foods until she stopped the pills. -
ARCHIVED Reaction To Buckwheat And Other Grains?

I know. I've ordered from them. If you get enough it is comparable in price to the health food store. -
ARCHIVED Glutened! Who Was The Culprit?
dilettantesteph replied to rabbit24's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Some celiacs are more sensitive than others. What one eats without problems, another can't. You could go on a whole foods diet till you are better than add things one at a time to know what you can eat. -
Reaction To Sunflower Oil?
dilettantesteph replied to Cashe2's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Sunflowers can be harvested with the same equipment used to harvest wheat: http://www.sunflowernsa.com/growers/harvesting-storage/ It could be cc from that if you are very sensitive. -

ARCHIVED Banning Gluten Fromthe House!?
dilettantesteph replied to newgirl11's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
We tried for a year to try to get a shared household to work. We tried all sorts of separate areas etc. Celiacs didn't come near gluten stuff etc., but we just kept getting sick. Finally when we made the household gluten free, things worked out better. The gluten eaters were still able to eat gluten at work and school, and then they washed up immediately... -
The brain fog might go away with a cleaner diet. That worked for me.
