  1. Did you look at the date on that post? 2006! The information is outdated.
  2. Yes. Especially the bite of pizza.
  3. I agree with Stef. I get lots of different aches and pains from glutening and sciatica is one of them. If I keep limber I have less problems. Core exercises are important as well as the whole back of the leg.
  4. We had that problem with my son. My husband wanted to punish him severely, but nothing much worked until we got him off gluten. I really didn't think that he could help it. Now it only happens when he gets gluten by accident. It drives me crazy then, but at least I know that it will go away soon. Hang on to that thought.
  5. Some of us are more sensitive to trace gluten levels than others. My son and I had to go to all naturally gluten free non processed foods to be symptom free. We also have to wash everything like crazy. Maybe try cutting down on some of the processed foods would help your son too.
  6. I would suggest that you don't drink alcohol. It seems to make glutening worse. To bring with you, adult diapers. It humiliating wearing them, but not as bad as what will happen if you can't find a bathroom in time. Hopefully you won't need them, but you will have them if you do. I remember finding bathrooms can be challenging while traveling. Have...
  7. It is hard at first because they have such a taste for chips and such that they don't want veggies and fruits. After being off the junk food for awhile my son developed an appreciation for veggies.
  8. Thank you.
  9. Awareness has gotten so much better. When I first came here trying to figure out what was wrong, I kept being told that I couldn't possibly be reacting to gluten in gluten free foods. It was pretty frustrating. I agree with you that if cows are eating 100% wheat, there should be detectable gluten in there even in the 1-3 ppm range, if gluten can get...
  10. I looks like you have already gotten some good suggestions. I didn't see food diary in there. Keep track of what he eats and how he feels so that you can see connections. My son was diagnosed at age 10. He was throwing up 10 times a day and got very skinny. Then he got almost fat so there is hope for your son. My son regressed a bit after almost three...
  11. I don't react very strongly to milk, and I do think that I am sensitive enough to react to gluten below 1 ppm. After all, a pretty small amount of something that tests to below 5 ppm will make me sick. If I eat 5 times that amount of something else to get the same symptoms, that item is probably below 1 ppm. I don't know that there is gluten in milk...
  12. I've wondered if ryegrass is the same as the rye used to make bread which contains gluten. It turns out that it isn't. Ryegrass (Lollum) is the stuff that grows in lawns and pastures, Open Original Shared Link Rye (Secale cereale) is the stuff that bread is made from. Open Original Shared Link Good thing. It wouldn't be so good for us if all our...
  13. Thank you for the citations. Concentrations of gliadin in breast milk was in the range of 5 -1200 ng/ml which would be 0.01 - 2.4 ppm gluten. Open Original Shared Link It would be interesting to see more sensitive tests of gluten in cows milk for comparison.
  14. Thank you for pointing that out. It does show how corn has a tendency to be contaminated and eliminating it can be beneficial for some celiacs.
  15. I am sure that there is no gluten in milk within the 20 ppm suggested guidelines. That means that there is no gluten in milk as far as most celiacs are concerned. Based on my reaction I would say that the levels are much less than 5 ppm. I say this by comparing my reaction to milk and cheese to my reaction to an Amy's product which had been tested to below...
  16. Some of us react to lower levels of gluten than others. I appreciate the warning.
  17. My son and I seem to be among the few. We are very sensitive to cc and still we can eat dairy. My son eats more than a half pound of cheese a day. And we go through 4 gallons of milk a week. We get it from a farmer who doesn't feed his cows gluten grains. We couldn't tolerate other milk and cheese.
  18. I am very sensitive and I do find one brand of milk and cheese I do well with and the rest I can't tolerate. Gluten is in breast milk, I wonder if it could be from diet?
  19. Some of us have problems with processed foods. You might want to stick to a whole foods diet until you feel better and then add processed foods one at a time to see if you can handle them or not.
  20. Rice and wheat can be grown in rotation, and shared harvesting equipment can be used. Unless the rice is sourced very carefully, the dedicated facility won't be enough.
  21. Unless you child doesn't react to much of anything, it will be a problem. Can you use regular flour in your kitchen with your child present? My child would rather not fit in than get sick. A child can't fit in much when he is sick anyway.
  22. I had problems with rice chex and not rice. I didn't try the flavored ones as I figured they would be worse. I imagine that some boxes are probably worse than others. That might be it.
  23. I am very sensitive to cc and have had problems with their products. Too bad, because I love them. I can't handle very many processed foods anymore.
  24. I had terrible swollen fingers before diagnosis. I had given up wearing rings. Now it only happens when glutened for awhile. Could you be getting gluten in your diet by accident?
  25. Good for you. My celiac son and I found that we couldn't get healthy until we got gluten out of the house too. My husband and daughter are happy to not eat gluten in the house since it makes such a difference to our health.
