  1. My son and I both experience memory issues when glutened. Lots of celiacs get what they call "brain fog".
  2. If you might be sensitive to oats, Bob's might be a problem. For gluten free flours, I make my own. I buy whole grains, sort to remove gluten grains and pebbles or whatever else doesn't belong, wash, dry and grind. That might do it for you. I also make my own nut milks. Good luck finding the problem. We spent all summer figuring out ours.
  3. As a chemist, I'll second that. In addition, corn can be contaminated in wheat. I have personally found wheat berries in my whole organic corn. The corn used in a study often sited to show that celiacs react to corn gluten contained 82 ppm gluten from wheat, barley or rye. Open Original Shared Link
  4. If you reread the post it looks like the mother was putting honey in her own tea, not feeding it to the baby who is now over 12 months anyway.
  5. Some of us are sensitive to smaller amounts of trace cc than others. I am one of the more sensitive ones. I make things myself from scratch. I don't eat out. I wash everything. That is the only way for me to stay healthy. You may not be as bad as all that, but if you are, you can still survive, and it really isn't all that bad.
  6. I am going to second what some others are saying. Until she heals have her on a whole foods diet. No processed gluten free foods. You might want to avoid grains altogether as they can be contaminated. Also no soy for the same reason. Until she heals she most likely will be lactose intolerant so no dairy either. Probiotics can help with healing....
  7. That's just funny. Don't worry about it.
  8. It sounds like you should be getting tests for celiac disease and not for allergies. I don't think that they work very well for someone that young. To get an accurate test she has to be eating gluten. Just so that you know, some 10% of celiacs get a gluten like reaction from oatmeal. I'm one of them. That might be what happened rather than or as well...
  9. It isn't uncommon for gluten to cause anger outbursts. You will find several posts on it on this forum. Add alcohol to the mix and it can get worse. I have anger issues with gluten myself. It got bad before diagnosis. I am a much nicer person now.
  10. It sounds like you have found a wonderful life partner. Be sure to cherish him always.
  11. It was the case for my dad, me and my son. When you go gluten free you almost turn into a different person.
  12. I got some recently and plan to trial it next. Thanks. What brand do you use?
  13. I react to chex, but I am very sensitive and react to most processed foods.
  14. I find that my glutening symptoms worsen with my menstrual cycle. You may be getting some gluten cc.
  15. From the perspective of someone who is very sensitive to low levels of cc, I would say that grains, coffee and O.J. could all be causing you problems. I don't drink OJ, coffee, I wash the beans first, grains I sort and wash. Why don't you try cutting them all out for a couple of weeks and then adding them back one a week and see what happens.
  16. I have problems with sugar cane. I am very sensitive and have problems with all sorts of things. I haven't been able to find a sweetener yet that I can tolerate. I think it is from cc, but I'm not sure.
  17. Ditto. Even 0.1% for that matter.
  18. I definitely find that glutening symptoms are worse when I am having my period. Hope you feel better soon.
  19. I'm really hesitant to have special accommodations made because he might take advantage too. Plus, he is going to have to learn to deal with this. The rest of his life will be like this, and people won't accommodate it forever. I feel like it could hurt him in the workplace eventually unless he learns how to deal with it now. So far he is a good enough...
  20. Some of us are so sensitive that we have to get extremely nuts about avoiding cross contamination.
  21. My heart palpitations went away gluten free and come back when glutened. They are disconcerting. My doctor told me that it was due to thyroid problems, but I tested negative. That was before my celiac diagnosis.
  22. My GI thinks that refractory sprue comes from trace gluten in the diet. Do you eat any processed foods? Have you tried a whole foods diet? That worked for me.
  23. It is perfectly normal for some of us to react to minute amounts of gluten. It is not normal for the rest of us. When I first got diagnosed I couldn't understand how it was that I reacted to things that other celiacs ate without any problems. We aren't all the same. It was such a relief when I finally figured that out. I only use fresh spices which I...
  24. My son had bad GERD before diagnosis. Several GERD medications didn't touch it. He found that best thing was the gluten free diet without meds. Is is possible that the meds might have trace cc? GERD is one my my biggest gluten contamination indicators. Do you use spices? Some react to those, maybe try fresh only. I only eat nuts in shell which I shell...
  25. I think that there is true soy intolerance and there is a reaction to cc. To distinguish them, buy Edaname in the shell. Wash, shell and eat. I can't eat soy containing things with a reaction, but I can eat Edaname like that.
