I use an apple cider vinegar rinse on my hair every day. It takes out any build up and leaves your hair so shiny and smooth. Once you rinse out, there is no vinegar odor.

ARCHIVED Yellow Corn Vs White Corn
ang1e0251 replied to GlutenGalAZ's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Go to a Hispanic market and buy Areparina. It's white corn flour base used in Colombia and Venezuela. The ones we buy here have instructions in English and Spanish. I believe white corn, hominy, is treated with lime and that's the difference. -
I agree that the processed foods can really put on the pounds. Also some of those altenate flours have a higher glycemic value so if weight gain is a problem, you may need to stick with the lower glycenic ones. I believe the nut flours are good in that respect. I am eating very few grains and have substituted stevia for most of my sugar. I also increased...

ARCHIVED Some More Freezing Questions
ang1e0251 replied to GlutenGalAZ's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I learned to cook rice in Colombia where they eat rice for at least two meals a day. I can tell each culture cooks their rice differently. In Colombia we also rinse the rice before cooking. I use a wire sieve which I find much easier than a bowl. You will see all the starch you wash off. Then we lightly fry it in the cooker where the oil is heating.... -
ARCHIVED Help! Need gluten-free Recipes To Travel / Hors D'oeuvres
ang1e0251 replied to hilwacat's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
For gatherings, our kids beg Grandma to make "Thingees".Take an extra long toothpick and thread with a chunk of pineapple, an olive, a chunk of cheese and a chunk of meat. We make them our favorite way and so can you. The meat and cheese make it filling. We all fight over them! -
M-m-m-m-m gotta try that this fall!

I didn't change pots and pans or silverware. I share all that. We cook all gluten-free now but with one exception, they are all the old stuff well cleaned. DH still has bread but I clean the counters and just wash my hands afterward. We do have 2 toasters, 2 PB's, 2 jellies, etc. Seasoned salt is one of those to be careful with. Lawry's is gluten...

Do you cream the butter and sugar very well before baking? Have you ever used the gluten-free shells with your conventional oven instead of convection? -

ARCHIVED Strict Gluten Free But Still Elevated Antibodies
ang1e0251 replied to elle's mom's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The dairy won't affect her antibody count but it certainly can affect her moods. I would give her another dairy free trial. You're doing that yourself anyway. Can she get gluten in not very obvious ways? Is your pet food gluten-free? Is she around the food and the pets? What about craft supplies like Playdough or tempera paints? Have you had any... -
ARCHIVED Good Friend W/celiac Disease Visiting
ang1e0251 replied to Dawner's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It's so nice that you are acommodating your friend. I advice you to keep all the packaging of products you serve her. I won't eat anything unless I read the packaging myself. Also you could contact your local restaurants ahead of the visit to see which can offer her safe food when you eat out. Nice going! -
I had a bug this weekend. Man, the stomach pain! Pepto helped me to finally sleep. I had made a new food but all my ingredients were good. I finally deduced it was a bug but it is so hard to tell. I have been eating the leftovers for the last two days with no fallout. So flu bug it was.

Good advice from the PP. I would add that you may be ingesting sneaky gluten. It's in something you're eating that you don't suspect. What spices are you using for your food? I didn't realize for a long time that some of the spices I used occasionally I had probably double dipped with gluteny spoons back in the good ol' days. Toss out anything like that...

ARCHIVED Caesin, Corn, Dairy.... Seriously? Help! Lol
ang1e0251 replied to Ariauna's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You asked about the difference in a casein intolerance and lactose intolernace. Casein is the protein found in dairy which is in all dairy and you would react to it. Lactose is the milk sugar and that is greatly reduced in foods like aged cheeses. I am like you and can handle the aged stuff and even butter but not very fresh products like milk or sour... -
ARCHIVED How Does Your Family Cope?
ang1e0251 replied to hrly169's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I hear you about family, they don't get it but also many of them don't want to get it. I guess they are so scared about what it could mean to their lives they just can't mentally cope. My sister and her daughter are the same. My sister has started being snippy when I even mention it now. I guess I should just back off and let them live their lives. I... -
ARCHIVED Stool Test Positive!
ang1e0251 replied to jshelton999's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It took me awhile to get the differences straight in my head but here goes: if I am in error anywhere, please someone write in and correct me. There are three different ways you can react to wheat. First, you can be allergic to wheat which is a histamine response. This is an allergy and does not damage your intestine. You might also be allergic... -
ARCHIVED Dealing With The Social Aspect Of Celiac Disease
ang1e0251 replied to gluten-no-more's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree that it's all about your attitude. You make light of it as a problem, and your friends will follow your lead. You don't need to be ashamed, you don't have leprosy, you just have a dietary restriction. Is that how you judge your friends? If one of them has a broken leg and probably can't go eat at a place with a lot of stairs, wouldn't you... -
In the beginning I had to use some tricks to keep myself from just reaching mindlessly for gluten like I was used to. I didn't want to eat it 'cause it made me so sick but sometimes it's just habit, you know? I if I was hungry then I really wanted some. One trick I still use is to make sure I'm not hungry when I go somewhere where gluten might be tempting...

I'm sorry you're having such a hard time. Working two jobs could make anyone crazy let alone with celiac disease! But....(you knew that was coming) When you're finished with your rant and believe me, I hear you, it is tough. Then take charge of your life instead of your disease controlling you. celiac disease doesn't have to be expensive or...

ARCHIVED How Many People Are Actually Self-diagnosed?
ang1e0251 replied to no-more-muffins's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am self diagnosed for monetary reasons. In hindsight, I'm glad I was broke because testing could have taken months and I don't know that I would have had the correct testing anyway. It was such a dramatic turn around on the diet that I've never looked back. All the symptoms including the rashes are gone and an accidental glutening is so dramatic that... -
ARCHIVED Building A Gluten Tolerance
ang1e0251 replied to Lawrence's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't have a scientific link to post here for you. All I know is that reading the signatures of members and hearing their stories, I am convinced it is true. I have to keep in mind there's a lot the medical community doesn't know about celiac disease and what they seem to know, they argue about like the different genes linked to it. I'm not looking... -
ARCHIVED Glutned Reaction Time
ang1e0251 replied to GlutenGuy36's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't really react quite that fast to gluten. More like an hour or more. But dairy gets me very quickly. From reading your post I have a couple of thoughts. First you should feel better than you do by now. And second you probably need to be more assertive about your health to heal and feel well. The reason for you feeling so weak can be as... -
I know it sounds like you prefer grab and go, but if you could take a couple of minutes to fry or scrample an egg with some Hormel Naturals ham or turkey, you would have a nice breakfast burrito. Wrap it in a corn tortilla warmed in your toaster. Also any sandwich makings in a tortilla are portable. Like cream cheese and meat or peanut butter and jelly...

ARCHIVED My Town Made The News!
ang1e0251 replied to ranger's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
My niece's wedding was in Ohio and we had good food there. I don't remember there being lots of restaurants in Wooten so that must just be Canton! They did have the best grocery store I've ever been to. They had child care, a coffee shop, valet grocery bag loading and other fun stuff!
