ARCHIVED First Thanksgiving Gluten-free
ang1e0251 replied to Hummingbird4's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I would definately bring my own food. You can't enjoy the day if you're reacting or afraid of it. Anyone who makes "fussy" comments just give them a HUGE hug and say, "I love you, you're so funny!!" People are usually flabbergasted by an off the wall comment. They can't think of a comeback, blush then think twice about doing it again! -

Great job on the weight loss, Lonewolf! You are my hero being a coach! DH loves it too. Now he's into referring & it's a good workout mentally & physically for him. I'd like to join but don't promise perfect reporting. I'll do what time allows. I self diagnosed last Nov. with an elimanatin diet. I promised myself one year allowance... -

ARCHIVED Need Ancho Chili Powder, Bought Some Dried Chilis
ang1e0251 replied to Sweetfudge's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Just a hint from the voice of experience; wear gloves when working with your chilis. It's too easy to touch your body with chili on it and o-o-o-o-eeeeeeeeee! I also use bread to clean my grinder. I wish I could have some chilis right now! -
I have been glutened by many trace hidden scources. Is it the balsamic vinegar? I thought I read on another post that some of those have gluten. Also you said you have tea. I don't know why but I have a sore stomach if I have instant teas. No problem with brewed. My favorite is Constant Comment which I find to be very soothing. Small children is definately...

I would like to add that even thouhg I have been gluten-free for nearly a year, I have been reading "Living Gluten Free for Dummies" this week. I have learned so much from it and in plain language! I wish I had read it last year when I was new to this. I was lucky to have a mentor. I think this book would be very helpful to you. Don't be intimidated...

ARCHIVED Please Reply....anyone At All Who Has An Answer!
ang1e0251 replied to lindelxox's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm so sorry you are feeling sick. I wondered if your food is being cooked in containers with utensils that are also being used for food that does have gluten. Cross contamination is tough on the tummy & the rest of your family may not understand what a problem it is for you. You need your own cooking pots, utensils, food prep area, toaster and storage... -
ARCHIVED What's Going On Now ?
ang1e0251 replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I would wonder about the rind on the cheese also. Was it wrapped in cheesecloth, dusted with flour? Maybe chestnut leaves or allowed to mold? These might not be sitting well with you. L-lysine has always helped my husband with mouth sores. -
I read some good hints some years ago that seem silly but really work. When you're ready with that smart remark (me) or unkind word; physically put your hand over your mouth & stop those words. A physical reminder can make you "snap out of it" and remember your resolve to back off for now. A friend of ours hated to say no to invitations or requests...

Please know that you have come to the right place to ask for help. I couldn't be tested myself but had all the anger, fatigue and other problems you described. I went on a gluten-free elimination diet and it was magic! I had been praying for an answer to my physical problems. I think you know already you are celiac. Trust your inner voice and go ahead...

ARCHIVED Something Wrong In My Head...
ang1e0251 replied to Pyro's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had the yucks the other day myself, I think do to a dose of ibuprofin, and noodle soup with a very little chicken & lots of rice noodles hit the spot. I made the broth in the crockpot with one chicken breast, salt and pepper, and tumeric. I froze half and added the rice noodles to the rest. The noodles I have need to be softened. I boiled water then... -

Welcome to the forum. My local grocery store has a list of gluten free foods and products on their website that you can print out to help with your shopping. ARCHIVED Something Wrong In My Head...
ang1e0251 replied to Pyro's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree with the other posters, could be a risk taking brain or a reaction to the gluten ( oh, I already feel bad, let's go for it). But what about plain stubborness? I feel like that sometimes where I just want what I want when I want it. Pretty immature, huh? What often works for me is to find a way to make a food as close to the "old" food as... -
Welcome! I know you'll feel better soon. Just stick with simple gluten-free foods to start.

ARCHIVED Dairy Dairy Dairy, Say It Ain't So...
ang1e0251 replied to NorthernElf's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've been lactose intolerant for many years & your reaction sure could be to milk. I can eat any aged cheese & a little butter but nothing else. In my coffee I use Silk Vanilla Soy. I also cook with it. You can use it in cooking just like milk for any dish with a sweet taste. With dishes that are salty or savory like mashed potatos, use Silk... -

ARCHIVED So... I Have Celiac Disease Huh?
ang1e0251 replied to The Gigglah's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The rice noodles are great & you can buy them at WalMart, every college student's favorite store! They have a few gluten-free products including spaghetti, corn or rice, and rotelli. I haven't looked at their frozen food section, there may be more items there. Here's a GREAT enchilada recipi. I didn't really like them until this kind. ... -
ARCHIVED How Important Is A Diagnosis?
ang1e0251 replied to elaffint's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am in the same boat. I self diagnosed with an elimination diet as my husband was laid off for 8 months. We had no money or insurance coverage. When I realized the rash I had for 6 - 8 weeks could be related to celiac disease, I simply went gluten-free. What a life changer! I feel better than I have for probably 20 years! I don't plan to be tested... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free One Year And Crazy
ang1e0251 replied to Debbie-in-the-warp's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Good advice for all of us! I really find the freedom of cooking my own simple foods so liberating. You must have sufficient proteins to make it. Eat meats at every meal, if you are a meat eater. If not, there are vegans here that can give you good advice. Simply cooked meats, start with salt and pepper, rice and potatoes with the side dishes that are... -
ARCHIVED Which Soy 'milks' For Lattes Not gluten-free?
ang1e0251 replied to marie06's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have been to Starbucks three times and the soy milk they use is Silk. I use this at home also. In my flower shop I have a small coffee bar. I stock Silk since it is what I like and lactose intolerant customers like it too.
