I just got a new cookbook over the weekend - allergy free - and it had a mayo receipe with no vinegar and, "I think," no eggs. I will check and let you know. There was also a "mock" sour cream in there too that I am dying to try. For my mayo, I use a passover mayo with citric acid instead of vinegar.

ARCHIVED How Do You Cope With Multiple Food Intolerances?
kabowman replied to covsooze's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Brocolli is a gaseous food. Even people without food problems often get gas (bad gas) when they eat brocolli. I eat it, not during lunch so I have problems at the office all afternoon but in the evenings when my family doesn't mind a little (or a lot) tooting. -
ARCHIVED From Flat To 6 Months Pregnant ....
kabowman replied to Bonnie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I avoid all beans except for green beans. So far, they have all affected me and I am afraid to try more. I went out with my kids last night to the ice cream place (I know the owner) and he assured me the sno cones were just sugar and ice, no corn syrup because I told him I can't have corn syrup. I still look 6 months pregnant!!! Won't do that again! -

I see beans on your list - I cannot have beans either - but - I can have green beans. Have you tried any of these to see if you body actually does react to them? Also, there are all different kinds of lettuce so maybe you can experiment and see if you can have some but not others? Another good note - you didn't lose garlic! I do avoid all vinegar products... -
ARCHIVED Gluten&dairy Free Chocolate
kabowman replied to Rae's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't react to the Enjoy Life chocolate chips if I remember not to eat the whole bag - any large quantities of any food seem to bother me anymore though. Their chocolate chips are dairy, gluten, soy, corn free. -

ARCHIVED An Update
kabowman replied to Danijela's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Have you noticed a pattern to the throat thing? There is yeast in vinegar so I would watch that since you have an actual allergy. That means no dressings, sauces, marinades, condiments, etc. unless you make your own and work around the need for vinegar. -

kabowman replied to cdiane's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
How does Anna's yeast free bread compare with Kinnickinik yeast free bread mix which was so much better than the Ener-g yeast free pre-made bread (can you say styrofoam?). -
ARCHIVED Grits
kabowman replied to skinnyminny's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Rats - can't have corn. That is the reason I have been afraid to try (and I'm the only one in my current family that likes them). -
ARCHIVED Grits

What exactly are grits made from? I miss them - grew up with them in Florida. -
ARCHIVED Nice Eyelashes!
kabowman replied to ThomasMom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree with Tiffany - they make finding glasses that don't hit them and make your eyes uncomfortable very very difficult. Both my son (the one who has is getting tested in a couple of weeks) and I have very long thick lashes. My oldest son has very long lashes too but not as thick and long as the younger brother. Their step-sister has always been envious... -

ARCHIVED Does Anyone Use Antihistamin Drugs?
kabowman replied to elisabet's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am on Zyrtec and I also use Tylenol PM or real OTC allergy med at night (you wouldn't believe what I went through before I started shots 4 years ago!!!) in addition to the Zyrtec and nasal sprays. -
ARCHIVED Real People Cereal
kabowman replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Two of the ingredient lists say Caramel Color - I thought that was bad, or could be...am I wrong? I didn't buy the chocolate stuff my son would LOVE that I never let him have before because of sugar (I only let the kids get healthy cereals). So, is caramel color good or bad...thanks. -

ARCHIVED Grinding Rice For Flour
kabowman replied to 4missinwheat's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I can't have any vinegar...therefore: I make my own sauces for BBQ and marinades and I use lemon/lime rather than vinegar. Also, for baking, I use a little bit of tequilla; the baking cooks off the alchol. I think the key with my BBQ sauce is a whole minced onion. The rest of the family loves it too. There are some flavors I don't know how to repeat yet... -
ARCHIVED Yeast Intolerance & Candida
kabowman replied to covsooze's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have a yeast intolerance - however, none of the other problems associated with candida, mainly yeast infections. I don't consider myself to have candida. However, that was a personal decision because of the lack of other symptoms and all my other food intolerances...just guessed it is one more. -

I forgot all about french fries and chocolate shakes!!! Back in the day, you eat a few fries, then while they are still warm and salty in your mouth, take a big gulp of a chocolate shake! Best way to eat fries ever. I make the Boiled Dinner but never knew what to call it. My boys, who are sooo picky, love the corned beef! It is one of the few meals they... -
Soaked in butter is what the chef at my local Chilis said about their skillets. So I always ask my server (who actually remembers my order so I only confirm now) that they clean the skillet first, NO BUTTER. Of course, because I cannot have vegetible oil, that limits me to a burger but it is nice to eat out occasionally. I order that and a salad with no dressing...

ARCHIVED Casein
kabowman replied to elfkin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Casein is the milk protein - have you just tried to eliminate the lactose first? That is not uncommon and if that is not enough, then eliminate ALL dairy. Try the lactaid pills and if those help his symptoms, it is probably just lactose and not a casein problem. Much easier to deal with. If he can handle soy, he can still have margarine - just look for... -
Also, if you have dairy problems, have them make sure to wash the skillet (I have them make mine in a skillet and not on the grill) because they are "soaked in butter" - I have no problems eating there, I just make sure to go when they are not packed. The staff are incredible.

ARCHIVED Gfdf Yeast & Soy Free Bread Recipe Anyone?
kabowman replied to covsooze's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I had to eliminate vinegar before I knew it was a yeast reaction. There is yeast in the process and it very possibly could be the culprit in your mayo. I even tried to make my own mayo with rice vinegar thinking it was the acid but it still bothered me. I found the yeast connection after I had eliminated both from my diet. Thanks for the info about Breads... -
ARCHIVED Cooked Or Raw Onions
kabowman replied to Lisa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My husband has the same problem with onions. Now we only use sweet onions for everything and he eats them fine with almost every meal (because I LOVE onions and garlic). He has learned that he cannot eat anything with onions or onion powder away from home because they use the cheap onions. Sweet onions are less acidic and don't bother the tummy. No more... -
ARCHIVED Working Around Gluten...
kabowman replied to Sagesmama's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I get nervous we we even use a small amount at home in any powder form - pancake mix, muffin mix, etc - we don't keep any normal flour in the house. I make the kids make their stuff as far away from everything as possible, over on the desk, not near any food stuff then I clean the area, while holding my breath, very thoroughly. I would be afraid...but... -

Try nutbutter (it used to be peanut butter) on a spoon out of the jar and dip it in honey. Eat the honey part off and dip again (also used to work with pretzles!) I like fresh onion and avacado on my BLT and black olives in any cold salad you can mix them in.
