It's quite possible that you're unable to absorb supplements right now, so you may find that the supplement the pharmacist gave you won't help at all. For some of us, we need to get our iron intravenously and either B-12 injections or sublingual tablets. The sublingual tablets are really inexpensive, so you might just try picking some up. If it's a B-...

You're so sweet to say that! Now...remind me--you live in the Redding area, right? I could kick myself! I was in Redding just last weekend for a workshop....and I could have met up with you for coffee. **sigh** Next time I'll try to remember to contact you. I'm so glad to hear that things are going well for you! And it's wonderful that you're taking...

ARCHIVED Problems After Eating?
rosetapper23 replied to confusedandlost's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Soy or xanthan gum perhaps?? -
Have you had this checked out by a doctor? Yes, your muscles SHOULD get stronger. Muscles that become weak from exercise can indicate a number of illnesses that are NOT related to celiac. Many people with celiac develop other auto-immune diseases....so if you haven't had this particular problem evaluated, I would highly recommend that you do so. This...

ARCHIVED Good News, Bad News.......
rosetapper23 replied to MomGoneRunning's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Okay, so you're talking about your endoscopy, right? How about your bloodwork? Was it positive for celiac? If so, disregard the biopsy--you have celiac. I won't expand on this unless you say that you didn't have bloodwork or it was negative. Can you please give us the whole story? So....don't be too sad just yet, okay? -
ARCHIVED Think I Glutened My Kid
rosetapper23 replied to Avalon451's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I know that you don't think that it's a virus, but the norovirus is going around right now (vomiting and diarrhea). If anyone else in your family gets sick, you'll have your answer. You're a good mom...and very careful. I can't imagine how she could have been glutened. -
If it isn't DH, you should have your doctor check you for a staph infection. They're common in the nose area.
-
All excellent advice above! I would like to second the suggestion to avoid iodine for a while and then cut back on it thereafter. Whenever I get even slightly cc'd, I break out in DH--and I've been strictly gluten free for eight years! Not very much is known about DH, and the doctors seem to know the least. I wouldn't bother with a biopsy because the...

ARCHIVED Nerve Issues And B12 Supplementation
rosetapper23 replied to Newbee's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I've never heard that the B12 test can be inaccurate, but perhaps I missed that information. I became aware of a Vitamin B12 deficiency almost a year ago. My symptoms included neuropathy in my toes and fingers and gulping for air. I felt as though I just couldn't breathe enough air into me to even move around. I'd wake up during the night literally gasping... -
ARCHIVED So Tired All The Time
rosetapper23 replied to everything-free's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I have two suggestions with regard to your diet. First, if you're avoiding potatoes, perhaps you have a problem with the nightshade family, which includes peppers....so you might wish to eliminate them. Second, I noticed that your diet seems high in carbs, somewhat low in protein, and extremely low (if not nonexistent) in healthy saturated fats. If you... -
ARCHIVED Advice Re Biopsy Please!
rosetapper23 replied to CoeliacinSydney's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
This is sheer ignorance on the part of that doctor! Celiac expert Dr. Alessio Fasano has stated vehemently that a biopsy is no longer considered the "gold standard" for diagnosing celiac. As a parent, you need to stand up to this ignorance--your child needs to be protected in this instance. Good luck! -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed?
rosetapper23 replied to Merriweather's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Your primary doctor is obviously not an expert on celiac, so I would disregard what she has said. Because there are so very few "experts" on this disease, you can pretty much take it to the bank when someone like Dr. Fasano says that a biopsy is not necessary. He's tried to convince many a doctor that the old gold standard simply no longer applies. If... -
ARCHIVED Help!...oh, Please Help!
rosetapper23 replied to waterfront's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Yes, the rash sounds just like my Dermatitis Herpetiformis. The reason why the "Herpetiformis" is used to describe it is because it is herpes-like in that the skin tingles before the outbreak just the way herpes sores do. For me, after an outbreak, the tissue beneath the lesion hurts as well as itches. It's a very deep pain. When I've had them on the... -

ARCHIVED Confused About Gluten Free Products..
rosetapper23 replied to hspichke's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Quite frankly, I don't believe the "experts" who say that gluten must be ingested to cause DH. There simply have been no real studies done on this. All I know is that if I use a shampoo that contains wheat, my scalp and face break out all over in DH. Back when I didn't know I had celiac, I wore lipstick (only in my teens)....and my lips would swell up... -
ARCHIVED Canker Sores
rosetapper23 replied to klmoeh's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My daughter (who refuses to get tested for celiac) has been plagued with canker sores her entire life. They became especially troublesome in her teen years, and her dentist told me, "These aren't normal canker sores. Your daughter has some type of auto-immune disease." My mother, son, and I all have celiac....and my daughter has been diagnosed with IBS... -
ARCHIVED Do I Need To Add Anything To This Diet?
rosetapper23 replied to waterlily-'s topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Except for the fact that your planned diet is somewhat heavy on the carbs, the only other thing I see out of whack is that you may not be consuming enough healthy saturated fats. You'll need them to help your body absorb fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, and K). You might consider adding avocados, nuts, and olives. Since you're including dairy, try to include... -
ARCHIVED New And Need Help
rosetapper23 replied to Ziva's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The symptoms you describe also sound like possible hyperthyroidism--have you had your thyroid tested recently? Our hormones are all interrelated and work as a system, and sometimes when a woman is going through menopause, she will also have thyroid problems. By the way, you can find all of your past threads by clicking on the arrow next to your handle... -
My son and I (both celiacs) have also been plagued for most of our lives with nosebleeds, though they have lessened dramatically since going gluten free eight years ago. My neighbors used to think my son had AIDS because his nose bled so often and so copiously. I assumed then, as I do now, that we were low in Vitamin K due to malabsorption. I still don...

ARCHIVED My Heart Is Broken....
rosetapper23 replied to upwitht21's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
kareng, I can so relate! With my first miscarriage, I strongly imagined a little girl who resembled my mother. With my next pregnancy, I gave birth to a little girl who was the image of my mother. I, too, believed that she simply needed to be born. I've never spoken of this to anyone....and it amazes me that someone else felt this, too! -
ARCHIVED Decreased Night Vision Seeing Ghostly Double Images
rosetapper23 replied to hd92392's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I understand how you feel--when I was 11, I suddenly noticed that I could no longer discern that there was furniture in my room when only the hall light was on. My celiac was triggered at 11, and this was one of the most dramatic changes that it caused. I agree that cod liver oil would be a good start. When you take Vitamin A, you need to take Vitamin... -
Some posters here on the forum have mentioned that they are also sensitive to nightshade foods (potatoes, tomatoes, and peppers). Perhaps you might consider eliminating this particular group of foods to see if they might also be contributing to your illness. The spaghetti sauce would have contained tomatoes and tomato sauce. Just a thought.... Oh...

ARCHIVED My Heart Is Broken....
rosetapper23 replied to upwitht21's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I am brokenhearted FOR you! This is the ultimate sadness.... Before I knew I had celiac, I miscarried three times...and I also had to take fertility medications. I know it is extremely difficult for you now, but I promise you--the grief DOES dissipate over time. It could be that your body still has not entirely healed from years of eating gluten, and... -
ARCHIVED Really Ticked Off At Doctors Right Now
rosetapper23 replied to xjrosie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Be thankful that you found out now--and not 20 years from now. Many of us on this forum did not discover the link to celiac until we were in our 40's, 50's, and 60's. We also had led tortured childhoods and adulthoods because no answers were forthcoming from the numerous doctors we saw about our unending list of symptoms. That said, I hope that you're...
