  1. maximoo, I was 13 when I started menstruating, so, yeah, it had no effect on my growth. As for people of other ethnicities, I've only observed African-Americans with the same enlarged lower jaws and crescent-shaped faces. I've never seen an Asian at the conferences, though I've met a number of Asians at Meetups who claimed to be gluten intolerant but...
  2. The way I look at this is that if you test out just fine, then keep on taking the multivitamin because it must be doing the trick. You only need to be concerned if you're taking megadoses of certain vitamins. Celebrate the fact that all you may need to do to keep your vitamin levels up is to take a daily multivitamin. Of course, if you're low in a particular...
  3. MaZoodle Twins, Do you have a photo of your brothers? I see these characteristics so often at conferences, I can usually spot a celiac just walking down the street. I have to fight the strong urge to tell them that they should get tested.
  4. maximoo, What I took away from the lecture is that the hormone that STOPS bone growth usually kicks in in the late teens; however, with celiacs who have difficulty absorbing hormones, the hormone has little to no effect on stopping the bone growth. Therefore, the person continues to grow for several more years. My son had all secondary characteristics...
  5. Since tinnitus is your biggest problem, I'd suggest that you ask your doctor to specifically test for all of your B vitamins so that you don't accidentally get overloaded. You may have to take B-12 in sublingual form or injections if you're low, and you should take co-enzyme B vitamins if you're low in others (I'll bet the one you're taking is NOT the co...
  6. Yes, here I go again, is right! Thanks for hugs squirmingitch! Believe it or not, my best chance is a homeopathic treatment called Artemisinin. Its recent clinical trials at the University of Washington resulted in fantastic, positive responses in patients--regardless of the type of cancer they had. I immediately got in touch with one of the lead researchers...
  7. Marilyn, Thanks for the tip on Merle Norman--always good to know what actually works for hiding scars. I've been using Dior Airflash for the past two years, and people swear that they can't see my scars. It's extremely expensive, though, so I'll be looking into the Merle Norman line to see if it's cheaper. The product I'm currently using costs over...
  8. I was accidentally glutened four months ago, and I'm left with very dark scars all over my face and neck. Now that I'm older (55), I'm worried that the scars won't be fading anytime soon. Does anyone have a suggestion for lightening them? Has any particular product worked for you? If so, did you use it specifically on the scars? Or did you use it over...
  9. Have you tried taking a quality B Vitamin complex? B Vitamins have been associated with tinnitus and might be worth a try. A number of us take a co-enzyme Vitamin B complex through Country Life.
  10. My son was always in the 110% percentile for height, but his celiac kicked in just as he began his adolescence at age 11. He began to fall behind in height, which baffled me because height calculations that had been made at age 2 had predicted that he would end up between 6'5" and 6'8". When he entered high school at age 14, he was of average height but...
  11. I think you are very conscientious...and that your celiacs are all safe. Just my own opinion....
  12. Many brands of peanut butter are gluten free, but I have read that peanut butter can have a high fungus count. Therefore, I prefer to buy almond butter (though I don't like it as much).
  13. I provided CVS with the same information, and they have NEVER done any type of checking before filling my prescriptions. Never! So, I always check with the manufacturer when I get home. However, they have always assured me that if it turned out that the medication is NOT gluten free, they would allow me to return it. I haven't found any pharmacies to...
  14. When this happens to me, I always suspect soy. They're sneaking that stuff into everything! The last time it happened, it turned out that the chopped garlic I was using had soybean oil in.
  15. You might have Dermatitis Herpetiformis (DH), which is a skin ailment that only celiacs suffer from. While you're going gluten free, try to go iodine free, too. A lot of people need to ingest both gluten and iodine to break out in DH. Iodine can be found in iodized salt (you can buy non-iodized salt instead), seafood, asparagus, salty foods (french fries...
  16. You may be suffering from a Vitamin B12 deficiency. Go to CVS or Rite Aid and pick up some sublingual Vitamin B12 caplets and chew them up. If you have a deficiency, you'll notice improvements soon. Most of us seem to take 2000 to 3000 micrograms twice a day.
  17. Okay, you're going to get varying responses on this. I'm in the camp that says that, as long as your blood test was positive, accept that you have celiac and cancel the biopsy. While false-negatives are common, false-positives are not so common. Leading celiac expert Dr. Alessio Fasano has stated in articles and publicly at conferences that if your blood...
  18. I love reading stories like yours! And I'm so glad that you've found the "key" to good health and happiness after such a stressful year. Yay for you! And thanks for sharing your update--always great to read a success story!
  19. If you'd chosen a lettuce-wrapped Star burger at Carl's Jr., you'd have been a lot safer. I've visited a number of Carl's Jr. while traveling, and I've never been glutened (even though I'm very sensitive). So, the next time you feel a little crazy, consider stopping there rather than McDonald's.
  20. When I've been to Orange County, I was always there to visit Disneyland--and it's the safest place on earth for someone with celiac or food allergies. I don't know if you plan to go there, but if you do, it'll be a wonderful culinary experience for you.
  21. Actually, articles are also presented at celiac.com, and you should check out their archives. As a member of the Gluten Intolerance Group of North America, I also receive a quarterly newsletter that publishes great articles as well as information on the latest studies and conclusions. It's also a good idea to attend conferences on celiac and gluten sensitivity...
  22. Could the marinara have had soy in it? It seems they put that darned stuff in everything! If so, you might consider avoiding anything with soy. For me, it seems that half the gluten-free products out there contain soy....and many of us are intolerant of it.
  23. I believe I read recently that Hidden Valley is about to add "gluten free" to their labels. They said the newly labeled bottles would be out sometime in June, I think.
  24. Personally, I think it looks like DH. Does it itch like crazy? Does it leave thickened reddish-purple scars? From what I've read, DH can look several different ways, so, hopefully, others will pop in here with their opinions. How long have you had these particular rashes?
  25. I actually was fully awake for my endoscopy because I wasn't clotting very well at the time. The doctor was scared that I wouldn't be able to make fundamental decisions if I began bleeding from the biopsies, so I was only sedated to the point of feeling relaxed. I, too, was scared of the tube, especially since all of my muscles are rigid from celiac (including...
