ARCHIVED Why Can't My Body Handle Long Runs?
rosetapper23 replied to Kat Kuz's topic in Sports and Fitness
Ron, Unfortunately, there are no capsules or pills that contain the correct ratio (unless you go to a specific website where the products are available based on this book's recommendations--and, trust me, they're expensive since they're the only game in town). It's just as easy to mix the ratio yourself, and the cost of the oils is minimal. Since you... -
ARCHIVED Why Can't My Body Handle Long Runs?
rosetapper23 replied to Kat Kuz's topic in Sports and Fitness
Okay, you may not believe my answer on this, but it's been proven to my satisfaction that taking a certain ratio of Omega 6's to Omega 3's will oxygenate the cells of the body. After reading, "The Hidden Story of Cancer," which is about cellular oxygenation, I came to understand how important it is to proper muscle function to take a daily ratio of Omega... -
ARCHIVED Knee Swelling
rosetapper23 replied to BlueJean's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Before I knew I had celiac, I had problems with knee swelling from tendonitis and ruptured ligaments. You see, muscles, tendons, and ligaments can be affected by celiac disease. I found out that my muscles just weren't "right," and I had to see a physical therapist about strengthening certain muscles and stretching others. For the knees, I had to strengthen... -
ARCHIVED Misdiagnosed?
rosetapper23 replied to MysteryDiagnosis2012's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
First of all, IBS is a symptom, not a disease. It is very obvious that you have a problem with gluten. It doesn't matter if it's bona fide celiac disease or gluten sensitivity--you need to stop eating gluten. Stop seeing ignorant, uncaring doctors. We all stopped seeing them! You know what's best for you.....and, believe me, we also know what is best... -
ARCHIVED Was I "glutened?"
rosetapper23 replied to GF4LifeinWI's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes, it's possible that you were glutened via contamination. Hopefully, no damage was done. In about a month's time, if any damage WAS done, you'll notice symptoms of malabsorption of one or more nutrients: iron anemia, low B-12 (shortness of breath), stress fractures in your feet, etc. If you feel fine after a month, you probably did not cause any serious... -
ARCHIVED Has Anybody Experienced Foot Pain?
rosetapper23 replied to carteem's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Okay, I have the answer! I have the answer!!! Yes, I also experienced actual stress fractures in both feet only weeks after being diagnosed with celiac. They were, in fact, stress fractures....and I attributed them to low calcium (my teeth were totally decalcified) and perhaps low Vitamin D. However, fast-forward to two years ago when I got glutened after... -
ARCHIVED 62 Years Young - Could I Have Celiac Disease?
rosetapper23 replied to Michaelyn's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My mother was diagnosed when she was 68! She had experienced a lifetime of allergy problems (which cleared up after going gluten free) and other medical issues, and now she is healthy and happy at the age of 76. Funny--I also have dermatographia! I just assumed that it was yet another auto-immune disorder that befell me because of celiac. You may, in... -
ARCHIVED When Was Your Celiac Triggered?
rosetapper23 replied to Victoria6102's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Although I had symptoms since birth, I believe the worst of my celiac was triggered at age 11 when my father left. I immediately became iron anemic, I became night blind, I could no longer clot, my joints became painful, my muscles didn't work right, and my teeth began to break. My celiac waxed and waned throughout my lifetime and once again became very... -
ARCHIVED Is It Stress Or Celiac Desease
rosetapper23 replied to mochabutterfly's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm assuming that you meant a psychologist? If so, plenty of us on this board have been told the very same thing. I got that response from a dermatologist when I refused to accept his diagnosis that I simply had severe, treatment-resistant acne. Of course, it turned out to be Dermatitis Herpetiformis (DH), which I believe you may have, too. You can... -
ARCHIVED Pre Dx-Testing In Progress
rosetapper23 replied to Dnnysm's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I also had ALL those symptoms (and more) before being diagnosed with celiac. I would BET that you either have celiac or gluten sensitivity. Hopefully, the testing will be over soon....but if your tests come out negative, I hope you'll still consider going gluten free. The tests are notoriously inaccurate....and you could be suffering from gluten sensitivity... -
ARCHIVED Ear And Jaw Pain Anyone?
rosetapper23 replied to GFceliacgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
What is interesting about jaw pain (and, yes, I'm referring to TMJ pain) is that I believe it occurs when the joint is too loose rather than too tight. I came to this conclusion when I experienced horrendous TMJ pain starting in the fifth month of each of my pregnancies. This pain coincided with the my body's increased production of prolactin, which occurs... -
ARCHIVED Symptoms
rosetapper23 replied to SweetCaroline13's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It's oftentimes helpful to eliminate both dairy and soy when you first go gluten free and then add them back in later. I'm completely intolerant of soy and also oats (even the gluten-free type). However, dairy has never been a problem. For many people on this board, however, dairy IS a problem (at least, at first). While your gut is healing, it really... -
ARCHIVED Please Read & Respond
rosetapper23 replied to DogWalkerNYC's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hmmm....all I can say is that ALL my migraines disappeared after I went gluten free. I'd been plagued by migraines since I was 18 and I'm now 55. -
ARCHIVED Help With Toddler Symptoms?!
rosetapper23 replied to cmmst87's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Okay, I can only tell you what other mothers have told me at celiac conferences. I'm very interested in this topic, because I suspect that my nephew has celiac....and so I oftentimes quizzed parents of toddlers and children about symptoms. Parents, as well as conference presenters, described a toddler/child as being out of control, violent, angry, screaming... -
ARCHIVED Joining The Cdf
rosetapper23 replied to ~**caselynn**~'s topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
You might also wish to check out the Gluten Intolerance Group of North America--they're very active and have chapters throughout the U.S. They also have great outreach for children and teens, if you know of any who need support with celiac. The Website is www.gluten.net. They also have a program that certifies gluten-free products and restaurants. -
Have you ever tried taking Curamin? It's made of turmeric, and many people find relief from pain when taking it. You can check it out at www.curamin.com.

ARCHIVED How To Start A Support Group?
rosetapper23 replied to ~**caselynn**~'s topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Have you checked into the Gluten Intolerance Group of North America? Their website is www.gluten.net, and they have groups throughout the U.S. Of course, they might not have a chapter near you. I like to meet other celiacs and gluten-sensitive individuals through meetup.com. It's very popular here in the San Francisco Bay Area, but I don't know if it... -
ARCHIVED Paleo Diet Vs The Gluten Free Lifestyle
rosetapper23 replied to lewiss's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
That's right! No beans, because our forefathers couldn't eat them without cooking them...and fire wasn't available back then. As you probably know, beans contain toxins, which dissipate when cooked. -
ARCHIVED Calling All Cat Owners
rosetapper23 replied to Lisa's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
It also might be that the cats' food contains gluten, which is common. Even if you wash your hands after feeding them, they lick their fur....and then you pet them. If you'd prefer a more homeopathic, natural remedy for allergies, Sabadin by Boiron is quite good. My mother and several of my most allergic friends all swear by it--and they'd tried everything... -
ARCHIVED Traveling Gluten-Free
rosetapper23 replied to jorgensenjess's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
StephanieL, At celiac conferences, the gastro speakers commonly state that they will perform endoscopies once a child has turned two. Oftentimes, they will not even order blood tests until the age of two, since they consider them unreliable until then. -
ARCHIVED Traveling Gluten-Free
rosetapper23 replied to jorgensenjess's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I am not aware of too many gastros who would be willing to perform an endoscopy on a 15-month-old, and, similarly, there aren't many parents who would want their little one to go through an endo at such a tender age. Since you are having the blood tests done BEFORE your trip, I stand by my advice to feed your son gluten-free food from here on out. Many... -
ARCHIVED Paleo Diet Vs The Gluten Free Lifestyle
rosetapper23 replied to lewiss's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The biggest difference is that we don't eat ANY grains whatsoever, and we eat more healthy saturated fats and protein than other people. Also, everything must be organic. The Paleo Diet, as I understand it, allows dairy and some alcohol, but the Primal Diet does not. Personally, I put organic butter on almost everything. And, no, fat does not make people... -
ARCHIVED Traveling Gluten-Free
rosetapper23 replied to jorgensenjess's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Since you're having the blood tests done before you go to California, you're right to want to feed him gluten-free food. As far as snacks go, he would be able to eat dried fruits and gluten-free cereals (specially marked boxes of Chex cereals, Cocoa Pebbles and Fruity Pebbles, and specially marked boxes of Rice Krispies...and I can't remember if Cheerios... -
ARCHIVED Ear And Jaw Pain Anyone?
rosetapper23 replied to GFceliacgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Have any (or all) of you yet tried taking silica and collagen? I've had problems off and on for many years with jaw and ear pain, and I've found that the following products have helped me: BioSil and NeoCell Super Collagen. I also take a number of natural products for joint pain that seem to work well for me and a few other celiacs that I know: Dr. Christopher... -
ARCHIVED Help With Family Member With Possible Celiac?
rosetapper23 replied to Dolphins1992's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes, I am in the camp that is of the opinion that IBS is a symptom and not a disease. When doctors diagnose patients with IBS, it's because they don't know what's wrong or have given up on finding a correct diagnosis. Pharmaceutical companies produce the medical tests used at medical schools, and they would rather train doctors to treat symptoms, such as...
