ARCHIVED How Long Before Feeling Better?
rosetapper23 replied to jeaucamom's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You know, there are a number of stomach illnesses going around right now....and from your description, I'm guessing that you might just have one of them. Some people DO feel that they go through a gluten withdrawal (I personally believe it is probably a carb withdrawal), but any such withdrawal would not include such severe symptoms. Rest, drink water... -
ARCHIVED Is This Dermatitis Herpetiformis? (Pics)
rosetapper23 replied to fitnessfreak's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Well, it doesn't look like mine, but I'm sure there are others on this forum who DO experience DH the way that you do. Apparently, it presents differently with different people. That said, there are other skin conditions that are aggravated by gluten, such as eczema. If you saw improvement--and your photos indicate this--you may wish to avoid gluten... -
ARCHIVED How Long Before Feeling Better?
rosetapper23 replied to jeaucamom's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Please don't beat yourself up too much--following a gluten-free diet is very difficult at first. Perhaps it was easier for those of us who had to adopt a gluten-free diet back when very little was available as replacements. Nowadays, there are a lot of gluten-free options, so I would imagine that anyone trying to start the diet would automatically turn... -
ARCHIVED New Here And Need Some Help

Oh, IrishHeart, we're bandying about semantics. I shouldn't rely on my memory--what I was disagreeing with was the following statement: "Topical treatments do not eradicate yeast." As I stated above, I've had great success when recommending that friends and family use Clotrimazole ointment to treat yeast infections of the skin--really, it works! However... -
ARCHIVED New Here And Need Some Help
rosetapper23 replied to ScottR13's topic in Super Sensitive People
I agree with your statements, IrishHeart--I was just remarking on your statement that antibiotics cannot cure yeast infections of the skin, because I know that Clotrimazole can do just that. This man needs to be seen by a doctor, because I do believe that he may be prediabetic, since he's having difficulty treating the skin infections. -

rosetapper23 replied to jeaucamom's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Okay, something's not right here. You're obviously having a reaction to something....and I would bet that it's something other than gluten, since you're feeling worse and you're actually having what appears to be an allergic reaction, rather than a celiac-type response. By any chance, did you eat anything processed? Oftentimes, there are ingredients in... -
ARCHIVED New Here And Need Some Help
rosetapper23 replied to ScottR13's topic in Super Sensitive People
I agree that it may be DH...but, then again, it might just be areas of yeast overgrowth, which CAN be treated with over-the-counter medications used for Athlete's Foot (sorry, IrishHeart, but I've treated numerous family members and friends for this problem successfully without oral antibiotics). For the areas on your skin that need to be treated, I've had... -
ARCHIVED Went Gluten-Free - I Feel So Much Better.
rosetapper23 replied to TheIntern's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Would just like to add that I looked into the symptoms of Vitamin A deficiency and saw a bunch of your symptoms there. I've always had difficulty absorbing Vitamin A, but at a recent celiac conference, a speaker mentioned that both Vitamin D and A nutritional deficiencies in people with celiac can be relieved by taking Natural Vitamin D3 by Country Life... -
ARCHIVED Relief For Burning Mouth
rosetapper23 replied to Mamaburke's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
A burning tongue and throat are strong indications of iron and/or B vitamin deficiencies. It could be that the lining of your small intestine is still healing, and your restrictive diet, in conjunction with this inability to absorb nutrients well, is causing you to become nutritionally deficient in certain vitamins and minerals. A good B vitamin, such... -
ARCHIVED I"ve About Had Enough Of This !
rosetapper23 replied to ncdave's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
No, the two products are quite different--it's L-Glutamine that you need, not the other. Regarding the diet, only a couple of things came to mind: Has the grill been completely cleaned of all past gluten? Some marinades include soy sauce and other sources of gluten and can remain on the grill. Also, with regard to the salt, you may be sensitive to iodine... -

rosetapper23 replied to TheIntern's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree that you probably have celiac...or maybe gluten sensitivity. The fact that you have night blindness, which is considered very rare, indicates--to me, anyway--that you probably have celiac. Night blindness can result from malabsorption of Vitamin A, and I've had it since the age of 11. Unfortunately, I didn't put the pieces of the puzzle together... -

I would suggest taking L-Glutamine--it helps heal the gut...and you may begin to feel better sooner. -
I don't know if the report is true....but I would be interested in knowing if this is true. I have a theory about the facial bones of people who have celiac (generally speaking), and from the first time I saw a photo of her, I suspected she had it.

ARCHIVED Mass Confusion After 4 Years
rosetapper23 replied to laurajojetter's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
laurajo, Not to scare you, but because you are a woman suffering with these symptoms, I'm a bit worried that perhaps you need to have an ultrasound of your abdomen. The symptoms you describe are common symptoms of ovarian cancer (and, again, I'm NOT trying to scare you--it's just something that you should consider sooner rather than later). Many women... -
ARCHIVED Udi's New Packaging
rosetapper23 replied to bridgetm's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm glad you plan to follow through. I recently took a photo of a sandwich that I'd made with Udi's whole grain bread because there was an airhole the size of Texas in the bread. I forwarded the photo to Udi's and told them that the last two loaves I'd purchased had large airholes running the entire length of the loaves....and that I felt cheated. They... -

rosetapper23 replied to tctwhite's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I recently added digestive enzymes to my clearly-too-many-to-count supplements because I'm trying to increase the absorption of a supplement I'm taking to treat my cancer. The one that was recommended to me at the healthfood store (and which was not very expensive at all) is Enzymedica Digest Basic Essential Digestive Enzymes, and it contains the usual enzymes... -
ARCHIVED Low Trauma Fracture
rosetapper23 replied to englishrose's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
kittty, PLEASE start taking manganese, zinc, and silicon! Your tendons and ligaments do NOT have to continue having problems. Yes, celiac is the root cause....but it is the nutritional deficiencies that are causing your disabilities--and that's something you can fix! -
ARCHIVED Udi's New Packaging
rosetapper23 replied to bridgetm's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You should contact Udi's and ask your question. They're very good about standing behind their products. If you mention that no expiration date was on the bag and you had to toss it because you didn't know what to do, they will send you a coupon to replace the loaf. They're a stand-up company....and will stand behind their products. Please contact them... -

My daughter was 22 when she sprained her ankle badly while running a marathon. Although I strongly suspect that she has celiac (has many of the symptoms), she refuses to get tested or even consider for one minute that she might have to change her diet. I remember the doctor ordering X-rays because he said that she had a "high-ankle injury" which can cause... -

ARCHIVED Ttg Follow Up!
rosetapper23 replied to Mom2Will's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Really, the Metagenics product may solve his problem. At recent national celiac conferences, I've seen the company's booths set up...so it appears that its use is becoming more commonplace with celiacs. Back when it was prescribed for me, it wasn't well known, but, thankfully, my doctor was aware of it. -
ARCHIVED Ttg Follow Up!
rosetapper23 replied to Mom2Will's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It took me a full 18 months on a strict gluten-free diet before I stopped having loose stools. What made all the difference, though, was taking Probiotic Pearls and Metagenics UltraClear Sustain, which my doctor prescribed. I started taking both at 17 months, and a month later I felt like a new person--perfectly formed stools and felt great. The Metagenics... -

I buy most of my supplements at a specialty healthfood store, and I buy others online. As for the chelated forms of manganese and zinc, I believe I buy Bluebonnet brand, and I just take one capsule of each. Only take the zinc for a few weeks....but if you feel you're getting better by taking it, simply add a little copper to your list of supplements. Believe... -
ARCHIVED The Blood Test/ Confirmation Of Diagnosis
rosetapper23 replied to AshleyBriana's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Bartfull, That is why I advocate not testing in such cases--it's advisable to test if a person has been eating gluten, but to require a person who is extremely ill to continue to eat gluten simply to prove a diagnosis makes no sense to me. A person's health is the most important thing! Each case is different....but I will NOT advocate that a person...
