ARCHIVED Recently Diagnosed In College
rosetapper23 replied to glutenfree015's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Yes, digestive enzymes and L-glutamine can help your gut heal. Then, you'll just need to be patient. Eventually, you'll be able to add in some foods...and all will be well. -
ARCHIVED I Am New To This... Help
rosetapper23 replied to Cole Jones's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes, it may very well be that you'll need to eliminate iodine from your diet for a while. Sometimes, the iodine plays an even greater part than the gluten in how it keeps the rash going. Unfortunately, if it IS DH and doesn't clear up with the elimination of iodine, you may be suffering from DH that has become infected with staph. This can only be treated... -
ARCHIVED Hello, Introducing Myself
rosetapper23 replied to CeliacShack's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Welcome to the Board! I'm sure many folks will have helpful advice to share with you. Regarding the teeth and hair, you might try adding magnesium as well as calcium. Brands of magnesium that are easy on digestion are Nature's Way Magnesium Complex and Bluebonnet liquid magnesium. Also, a good collagen product, like one made by NeoCell, will help with... -
ARCHIVED Fighting A Losing Battle Still - And Ruining My Life!
rosetapper23 replied to Bexxa's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hmmmm.....I've reread your posting several times and am concerned. If your nutrient levels come out fine, I think a trip to the ER might very well be in order. They should check you into the hospital and keep you there until they determine what's wrong. Your symptoms can mean anything from nutritional deficiencies to heart arrhythmia to an aortic dissection... -
ARCHIVED Bloodwork....
rosetapper23 replied to prairiemamma's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Why would the pediatrician want to do a biopsy after a few weeks on a gluten-free diet? That makes no sense! If there's an improvement on the diet, then your child has celiac. Even if there is no improvement in symptoms yet, his intestinal lining could heal enough after a few weeks so that the biopsy would come out negative anyway. It's pointless. -
ARCHIVED Hair Loss
rosetapper23 replied to GwenO's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Her Vitamin B levels should be checked, as well as her zinc level. Deficiencies in these nutrients can cause hair loss. Also, her thyroid should be checked. -
I'm so sorry to hear your story! And, yes, I was treated in a similar fashion. All the dermatologists with my HMO were in agreement: I simply had a bad case of acne (my DH is on my face and neck) that wouldn't respond to medication. I would sit in their offices and cry....and say, "But it itches and peels! And it's terribly painful and symmetrical. ...

ARCHIVED Celiac With Additional Food Allergies
rosetapper23 replied to Iris court's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The Paleo/Primal diet is naturally restrictive of all of those foods (except maybe shrimp and scallops), so you might scout around for a book on Paleo/Primal recipes. An excellent book about this diet is "Primal Body/Primal Mind" by Nora Gedgaudas; however, there is also a website that is quite helpful with regard to recipes: www.marksdailyapple.com You... -
ARCHIVED Fighting A Losing Battle Still - And Ruining My Life!
rosetapper23 replied to Bexxa's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes, have your magnesium level tested as well as all of your B vitamins. Although you're not eating any gluten, you may be suffering from nutritional deficiencies, which can cause many of the symptoms you've described (especially B vitamins, but other deficiencies may be playing a part). -
ARCHIVED Help! Anybody Take Aleve?
rosetapper23 replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yes, it's the only pain reliever I use (and I checked it out first). You'll see that it works for a long time. -
ARCHIVED Facepalming Really Hard Right Now
rosetapper23 replied to Persei V.'s topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Persei, What part of Brazil do you live in? I went to school in Guararapes in the interior part of the state of San Paolo....but it was a long time ago. I wish I could remember what cream of tartar is called there, but I do recall that I was able to find it at a pharmacy. When I lived there, I hadn't yet been diagnosed with celiac, but you're lucky... -
Please listen to Gemini--she is SO correct! I think the T3/T4 problem is why Synthroid didn't work for me. Rather than fixing the situation, my TSH shot up to 26.2 after two months!! I was a mess! If you add T4 and are unable to make your own T3, there is a huge imbalance. Armour Thyroid provides BOTH T3 and T4 (unlike Synthroid, which only supplies...

The symptoms you describe (except the mouth sores) can occur while your thyroid is adjusting. I agree with you that your medication is very low for the symptoms you're having. Joint pain, hairloss, fatigue, etc., can occur if the thyroid levels are high OR low, and, as you know with Hashimoto's, the thyroid levels can go both ways for a while. When I was...

ARCHIVED 2 1/2 Years And New Questions
rosetapper23 replied to rain's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
When a woman of your age experiences bloating, you should ALWAYS request an ultrasound of your ovaries. The bloating probably is food related (a new sensitivity), but to be on the safe side, please consider requesting an ultrasound ASAP. -

ARCHIVED I"ve About Had Enough Of This !
rosetapper23 replied to ncdave's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
archeao, Finding out about the iodine association wasn't hard for me--the Dermatitis Herpetiformis broke out all over my face whenever I ate anything high in iodine (usually a snack with iodized salt or seafood). I'm also highly allergic to iodine, both topically and internally. If iodine touches my skin, the pain goes all the way down through... -
ARCHIVED 3.5 Weeks Off The Gluten And Man! Am I Frustrated!
rosetapper23 replied to ReneeMartin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think every single one of us felt like you in the beginning. Even though we were happy to finally have an answer to our lifelong health problems, we still felt deprived, uncertain, sad, and bitter. Many of us have related stories where the first time the boss has bought the entire office pizza for lunch, we ended up retreating to the bathroom to cry.... -
At the conferences I've attended, it's been pointed out that the blood flow to the frontal lobes is reduced in celiacs who eat gluten. Also, plaques can form throughout the brain. Take a look in the articles section of this site, because there are some interesting articles on neurological damage to the brain.

ARCHIVED Assuming Possible Misdiagnosis
rosetapper23 replied to Purplemummy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Personally, I think the time for testing or retesting has passed since you've been gluten free for so long. Your doctors should focus on how to address your nutritional deficiencies. If your ferritin levels do NOT increase with oral supplementation, you should request intravenous infusions for a while. As you know, you can buy sublingual B12 without the... -

ARCHIVED Help going gluten free
rosetapper23 replied to girlonamission's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Nothing good to eat? Try meats, healthy saturated fats (e.g., olives, nuts, nut butters, avocadoes, organic butter, etc.), vegetables, dairy, gluten-free grains, and fruits. If you're interested in losing weight and dealing with allergies, you might try reading, "Primal Body/Primal Mind," by Nora Gedgaudas. Believe me--you will learn a LOT about diet... -
ARCHIVED So Frustrated
rosetapper23 replied to Reddino83's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Ha ha! It reminds of how I screamed that I had rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act when a screener at the Minneapolis Airport tried to take away my full-sized gluten-free shampoo (which had cost me an arm and a leg!). I made such a fuss, he tossed it back in my bag and shooed me away. -
ARCHIVED Way Too Technical For Me Nutrition/anatomy Questions
rosetapper23 replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Vitamin B12 can be absorbed sublingually (under and on top of your tongue), and the sublingual variety is very inexpensive. Other vitamins and minerals can be absorbed transdermally (topically through the skin). Magnesium oil is easy to find, and it can be absorbed when applied topically. There are formulations on the internet with, I think, Vitamin E... -
ARCHIVED So Frustrated
rosetapper23 replied to Reddino83's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You don't need apps right now--what you need is the commitment to eat only natural foods for the next six months or so until your gut has healed somewhat. Oftentimes when people first find out that they have celiac, they simply want to find gluten-free replacements for their favorite food items. This can be problematic because there can be issues of cross... -
ARCHIVED I"ve About Had Enough Of This !
rosetapper23 replied to ncdave's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
OMG! You're experiencing very obvious nutritional deficiencies! It sounds as though you're low in B vitamins and perhaps iron. Is it possible to have your vitamin and mineral levels tested right away? If not, I would recommend Coenzyme Vitamin B Complex by Country Life as well as a sublingual Vitamin B12 (1,000-3,000 mcg daily). Your doctor should definitely...
