ARCHIVED Finally Made A Decison With Oldest Son
Roda replied to Roda's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I specifically asked this doctor to order the DGP and she said she would then didn't! He also was tested last Nov. with an order for the DGP and the lab did the older version instead (yes they had both tests available)!! I'm just at my wits end over the whole thing. -

I was assured by the doctor that she would do at least 6. -
ARCHIVED Please Share Your Bisquick Recipes
Roda replied to gflooser's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Allright I have substituted the bisquik in a crepe recipe out of my kids recipe book and I have had fantastic results. My kids and I love them. They like to eat them rolled up with syrup and powdered sugar. I love making sandwich wraps out of them. I make several batches up and freeze them between sheets of waxed paper so I can pull one out any time I... -
ARCHIVED Finally Made A Decison With Oldest Son
Roda replied to Roda's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
He went for his scope/biopsy last week. The doctor told me everything look good and would contact me in about a week on the biopsy results. I got a call today and they told me everything was normal. I did ask for them to send me all of his test results. I want to read them for myself. As many of you on here know they don't always tell you everthing.... -
ARCHIVED What Time Of Day To Try The Test Again?
Roda replied to mommyto2kids's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Funny thing is about that. When my oldest son was little he had chronic constipation and was on everything under the sun for it. Well he was potty trained by 2 1/2 years old but only half the way. We were scared to put any pressure on him to train the rest of the way because we didn't want the constipation issue to rear it's ugly head. So by the time... -
ARCHIVED What Is A Gluten Challenge?
Roda replied to paperbagprincess's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I wouldn't do it. You had the positive blood work and responded positive to the diet and have a family history. I wouldn't bother telling anyone you don't have the "gold standard" diagnosis (positive biopsy). Just tell them you are diagnsosed. My 6 1/2 year old is diagnosed without a biopsy. He had positive blood work and a good response to the diet... -
ARCHIVED What Time Of Day To Try The Test Again?
Roda replied to mommyto2kids's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I find a lot of the time even for x-ray exams that some children do better when the parent isn't there. It takes out that element and usually they will do better. Glad you were sucessful. -
ARCHIVED Celiac Cost Me Everything
Roda replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm sorry raven, I know loosing a beloved pet is a hard thing to go through. I also lost a dog several years back. I had to have him put to sleep. I cried so much. I just wanted you to know that you have our support in this difficult time. Alex11620 is right you are an inspiration to so many people on this forum, especially the newly diagnosed. Your... -
ARCHIVED Road Warriors Working And Being Gluten Free-Is It Possible?
Roda replied to Laurarose's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I had a cooler that plugged into the cigarette lighter in the car and was kept cold. It also had an adapter that I could use to plug into a regular outlet. I loved it. I had it long before I knew I had celiac. I've got to buy another one because it got fried when my plug in the car shorted out. -
ARCHIVED Migranes After Starting Gluten-Free
Roda replied to singingfrizzle's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Gluten CC just means gluten cross contamination. For example: you make a sandwich with regular bread, don't wash your hands after, talk on the phone/pick up tv remote etc., daughter comes along and uses said phone or tv remote, she does not wash her hands and then makes a gluten free sandwich and eats it. This is cross contamination. The gluten residue... -
ARCHIVED Ttg Antigen Level 10
Roda replied to Nizzy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Some people have IgA deficiency which would render IgA testing invalid. So yes it is possible to be negative on one and positive on another. Did they do a total IgA? As for the biopsy, a negative result doesn't necessarily mean you don't have celiac. Reasons: caught it early enough and you don't have any damage/little damage, improper biopsy/not enough... -

ARCHIVED Stress !@#$ And Celiac Disease
Roda replied to Greg Rappaport's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think I have had subtle symptoms since 1998 but they didn't become bothersome to me until 2005-2006. My husband had a surgery gone bad that put a lot of stress on the family in 2005. It really came to a head in 2006 after I weaned my youngest son. I was on a very restrictive diet (gluten light looking back) for him because he had issues. Once I was... -
ARCHIVED Extremely High Cholesterol!
Roda replied to love2travel's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My total cholesterol, LDL, HDL and triglicerides were all low before gluten free. In fact my trigliceride level was abnormally low being off the chart low. I had a doctor at the time tell me she had never seen a patient with a level that low. I was told I was lucky. Well, after I was diagnosed with celiac I found one little article about low triglicerides... -
ARCHIVED Possible Glutening By Lay's Chips?
Roda replied to glutenfreeinminnesota's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The only Lay's chips I can eat are the stax. I believe they are run on dedicated lines. I can't eat the other ones anymore. -

The ice would definately numb the area, but it also can make it hard to find a vein. I notice a lot that the nurses will wrap peoples arms in warm blankets to warm them up to help them find a vein better. Personally I would go after school then she wouldn't have to go to school after all upset. However going in the morning could have its benefit also so... -
ARCHIVED How Did Your Doctor Tell You?
Roda replied to Googles's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was told my biopsy was positive (already had positive blood test that lead up to it) and was given the "option" to go gluten free immediatly or retest in three months. Luckily I had been lurking on here before and doing research on my own to know that I needed to be gluten free after the scope/biopsy and that the other was was just plain STUPID! I did... -
ARCHIVED We Did Their Test Today.
Roda replied to mommyto2kids's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have no idea what the patch was or called. I'd never seen it before. It's worth a call to the peds office and ask about it or the laboratory. -
ARCHIVED 8-Year Old With Celiac Disease .. No Idea Where To Go Next
Roda replied to Mom2CjJaedonEthan's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'd say if you only had one sample done and it showed up positive then in a weird way consider yourself lucky it showed in that sample. Doing multiple biopsies just helps get a more accurate test since damage can be patchy. -
ARCHIVED We Did Their Test Today.
Roda replied to mommyto2kids's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Well said. My youngest son for the longest time had a thing for shots but only at the peds office. He was fine for a finger prick or getting blood drawn at the hospital lab. He would try and kick and smack the nurses giving him his immunizations in his legs or the shot for strep. I didn't get mad or angry at him. I just stated matter of factly that it... -

Check and see if they have something to numb the area up with. My son went Wednesday for his scope/biopsy and the nurse put on this numbing/warming patch on my 10.5 years olds arm and left it there for a little bit before sticking him for his IV. He isn't afraid of needles but they said either way it makes it easier..numbs the area and warms it up to help... -
ARCHIVED Need To Test 6 Yr Old...do We Go To Regular Ped?
Roda replied to slee11211's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Ravenwoodglass has celiac and does not have the "typical" genes associated with it. Maybe she can chime in. Yes it is possible to have celiac without those two genes. -
ARCHIVED 8-Year Old With Celiac Disease .. No Idea Where To Go Next
Roda replied to Mom2CjJaedonEthan's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
He is already diagnosed celiac by blood work so I would continue to keep him gluten free or put him gluten free if he isn't already. I agree you need a new doctor as they should have given you some direction. If he hasn't been gluten free you could always request the full celiac panel: total IgA, IgA/IgG tTG(tissue transglutaminase antibody), IgA/IgG DGP... -
ARCHIVED Vitamin D Deficiency--Poll
Roda replied to PainfulSpaghetti's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm still taking the prescription vitamin D 50,000 iu/weekly. I was told to stay on it indefinately. I get my vitamin D levels checked about every 4-6 months. Edited due to typo
