ARCHIVED Help With Test Results Please
Roda replied to judysj's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
There is a lot of controversy around this. Some Radiologists say that a reaction to shrimp and shellfish does not matter in regards to the iv contrast while others say it does. I am here to tell you from experience that I have injected people that are allergic to shellfish/shrimp. I asked one pt about being allergic to ANYTHING and she told me none, then... -
Thanks for the suggestions. I'll give it a try.

ARCHIVED Hypothyroidism - Reaction To Levothyroxin Pills
Roda replied to Pac's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Just FYI I have read on here theat some people have problems with the brand name Synthroid. I can't give you exact posts, but it is here somewhere. I take a generic from mylan and I have never had a problem with it. -
No I don't think you are going to far. Yes che CAN make you sick by touching gluten stuff then touching yours. Also surfaces may not be safe either. I make everyone in my house that eats gluten wash their hands after. Some areas that I know are cc'd are the computer and the interior of our cars. I don't touch any of my food after being in either of those...

ARCHIVED Arthritis Or Thyroid Problems?
Roda replied to coffeetime's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I agree with mushroom. Your TSH is not normal! Your doctor is going by out of date reference range. You need a referral or self refer if possible to a good endocrinologist. Don't let your doctor brush this off. -
ARCHIVED Feeling So Discouraged
Roda replied to scouter99's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I would look at possible cross contamination in your home first. Do you share condiments? Are you using old scratched teflon/nonstic pans? What about your bakewear and cutting boards? Are you using wooden spoons you used before? You will need a separate toaster and colonder, probably will need to replace cutting boards if you cut bread on them, and either... -
I made these out of the BC gluten free bisquick mix from a recipe from their site. Open Original Shared Link They taste great and my husband and I liked them a lot. The only thing is they crumble very easily. Would adding some extra xanthan gum help this? Or does anyone else have any ideas. These would make great gifts but don't want them to fall...

I ended up puting 4 oz of cream cheese for the two boxes of BC mix. It does seem to be moist but a little dense. I'm going to make fruit sushi out of fruit roll ups, crushed rice chex mixed with melted white chocolate and gummy worms in the middle. Open Original Shared Link and I think I will make a pan of BC brownies for a back up in case the unsuspecting...

This might help. I decided not to get it, but I still think it is a great toy. -
Good thought but don't think it'll work. Too bad we can't have twinkies. They are the perfect shape!

Yeah, I used the recipe on page 168 for the yellow cake and it calls for the same amount of guar gum. I used the same amount of xanthan so there was strike one and I didn't have enough potato starch so I finished the measure with tapioca so that could have been a fatal mistake also. Headache is at bay for now, but I can still feel the tension in my shoulder...

I think I am going to try and add in a small container of plain or vanilla yogurt to the batter. He really doesn't want chocolate, since he is not a big fan of it anyway. Either way he probably won't eat it. Oh well, at least I try. Oops the book was The Gluten Free Kitchen. I actually worked myself into the starting of a migraine worring about this....

Any other suggestions on how to make the yellow cake moister? I've got to be able to pass this off to other kids too.

He was wanting a light saber cake. I was going to cut the 13 X 9 cake lenghwise in 4 parts then put them end to end for two light sabers crossed like an X. We do have pamelas mix at the health food store but is closed today and I don't have time to drive the 45 min. to Earth Fare with my work schedule. I did see some gluten free cake mixes at Food City...

I am so mad right now!! I have spent majority of the day in the kitchen and I don't have anything to show for it. I mixed up some cookies, chocolate chip that I replaced pepermint chips in and they were a total flop. Tried adding more flour and xanthan gum but that didn't help. Then I made a cake mix by namaste and it didn't do right. It was completely...

ARCHIVED What Would You Do?
Roda replied to curlyq's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would go gluten free with her definately. I put my youngest son gluten free based only on a positive ttg only, no biopsy and me having celiac. His results were Tissue Transglutiminase IgA Ab 16 (ref range: Normal < or = 15 u/ml, Positive > 15 u/ml) and two years ago his test was negative with a result of 2. While barely positive we put him gluten... -

I still think it is a crock of !@#$ that RX medications don't have to list, at the very least, the top 8 allergens and gluten. Of course I don't really know how many of those would be used in meds. -
ARCHIVED Developing Constipation After Going Gluten Free
Roda replied to Roda's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
The kid was so miserable he was laying around last night kinda like a limp noodle. I had to wait to see if school was canceled this morn before I gave him anything. I ended up giving him a 1/2 tablet of ducolax just to get things moving. It did the trick. Now we are going to be watching what he eats and drinks so this doesn't happen anymore. -
Anyone know of a good one?

ARCHIVED Developing Constipation After Going Gluten Free
Roda posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Has anyone had problems with their child getting constipated after going gluten free? My nearly 6 year old never had constipation before gluten free and was like clockwork and went almost everyday. He is eating plenty of fruits/veggies but could do better on the liquids. Any ideas how to help prevent this from becoming an issue? -

Thanks for your reply. I ended up going to the pharmacy that the customer service sucks and getting his RX in pills instead. They at least told me what they had in stock and gave me the manufacturer number. I called and the rep said that in the pills there were no gluten containing/derived ingredients so I got that one. Luckily he can swallow those horse... -
ARCHIVED Dealing With Celiac With A 4 Year Old
Roda replied to MaryannG's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I agree that most 4 yr olds just don't have the maturity to understand the necessity of the diet. I have an almost 6 year old and he is still coming to grips with it. He usually wants for nothing, but with the holiday's my oldest has been bringing home treats that he can't have. My oldest son is a very sensitive child (to other's feelings) and I find him... -

Cytomel and the generic (liothyronine) from paddock is gluten free. I take the generic. I don't know about the brand synthroid as I take the generic of that too (levothyroxine). I take mylan and it is gluten free. I hope the T3 makes a big difference for you I know it did me and I am taking 10 mcg liothyronine and 112 mcg of levothroxine a day. Most...
