ARCHIVED Really Good Chocolate Chip Cookies
sparkles posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I just had to share this recipe. Like most of you, there are certain comfort foods that I miss. Chocolate chip cookies are one of the things that I would like to enjoy again. I have tried several mixes but they have all left a funny taste in my mouth so I decided to experience on my own. Here is the recipe that I came up with.... Cream 1 cup Crisco... -
Is this the Pizza Luce that is also in Duluth? My son used to work there and he said the food was great! Either way I can't wait to try both places. I live in Bloomington!

ARCHIVED Celiac, Obesity, Food Cravings & Gluten

When I first went gluten-free, I dropped about 30#'s and was very happy. I since gained that weight back plus an additional 15#'s. I have really struggled with my weight and wonder if others who are overweight and gluten-free also struggle. I have been determined to lose weight. I have my step son's wedding in Dec in the Bahamas and want to at least NOT... -
I am going to the MN State Fair on Thurs. I have avoided it several years and am now ready to face "everything on a stick...." I am not sure if other state fairs offer as much food on a stick as the MN Fair but it is rather interesting. Anyway, we used to eat our way through the fair... part of the fun of going.... BUT being gluten-free, I am wondering...

ARCHIVED Wheat Flour In Ice Cream!?!?!
sparkles replied to HAK1031's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Lots of homemade ice cream has flour in it... so I would not be surprised to see it in the commercially made stuff. Like everything else, it is a must to check the label and not just assume that it is gluten-free. -
I have permanent neurological damage from gluten. I take B12 shots and that does help but the neuropathy in my legs and feet is still there. Some days it is worse than others but it is better with the B12 shots. Good luck.....

ARCHIVED Crescent Roll Recipe
sparkles replied to Guhlia's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
This looks easy.... I no longer do much baking but might be willing to give this a try. Can you make up the pizza crusts, bake them with no toppings and freeze them for later use? Just curious... if you have never tried to do this, I may still give it a try and see if they can be frozen after being baked. -
ARCHIVED Glutino Products
sparkles replied to stolly's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The pretzels are great.... Both of my daughters like them better than the regular ones. (Neither have celiac disease). I think that they are the one thing that really tastes like the "real" thing!!! -
ARCHIVED Question To Those Who Lost/gained After Gluten-free...
sparkles replied to Kilika's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I lost about 30# very quickly (3 months) after going gluten-free but then started regaining weight as soon as I started adding more processed gluten-free foods to my diet. Those foods were breads, desserts, snacks. When I first went gluten-free, I gave up everything except hamburger, potato, and lettuce. Needless to say, my diet was really limited. The... -
ARCHIVED So, I Am About To Gluten Myself...
sparkles replied to gfjayhawk's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hope that things work out for you..... -
When I first went gluten-free, I was so overwhelmed by the diet that I just ate hamburger, lettuce with a lemon squeezed on top and baked potato with all the butter I wanted. I added fresh veggies and fruit after a few weeks and when I was ready about 4 months later, I started reading labels and eating foods labeled gluten-free. For me it was too overwhelming...

ARCHIVED Friends/family Who Just Don't Care
sparkles replied to mrsry's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
MOST occasions I say, "Sure, we would love to come.... I will bring my own food so that you don't have to worry about my special diet requirements" and then I change the subject. I don't let them talk me into anything and I don't let them make me feel guilty. After work, perhaps you should put the ball in your husband's court and say, "I won't be able... -
Be sure to check your suitcase.... just in case some unwanted stowaways decide to come home with you!

ARCHIVED Accidental Glutening List
sparkles replied to kenlove's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Just curious, were the blisters on your hands really deep and do they develop within what seems like seconds? I used to get these all the time and just thought that I had touched something that I was alergic to but now I wonder, were these also a symptom of getting glutened? I haven't had them for years. They also really itched! -
ARCHIVED Freezing Pasta And Pasta Dishes
sparkles replied to missy'smom's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I never freeze the pasta with the sauce. I freeze it in plastic bags and then when I am ready to use it, I just put it in a colander and run very hot water over it until it thaws in only a minute or two. I have found that reheating it makes it mushy. This method doesn't seem to do that. I add the warmed up sauce and it is good to go! -
ARCHIVED I Want A Sandwich
sparkles replied to my3kids's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
NONE of the breads taste like real bread..... that being said, I do make bread in my bread maker and when it first comes out and is still warm, the end piece has the texture and taste of real bread (of course, I eat it with lots of melted butter on top). I do miss sandwiches so I have learned to "like" my gluten-free bread. I usually toast it or grill it... -
ARCHIVED Should You Thank The Catholic Church?

Not that I would wish celiac disease on anyone, BUT I do wonder what would happen if the Pope was diagnosed with celiac disease.... -
ARCHIVED Nile Spice Soups
sparkles posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was at the grocery store tonight and they had a special on Nile Spice soups (10 for $10). They looked interesting and the ingredients in some of the varieties seemed to be gluten free. I am wondering if anyone has contacted the company. I did email them but if they are gluten-free, I would like to buy them at this price. They look great for lunch at... -
ARCHIVED Lasagna Noodles
sparkles replied to celiac-mommy's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I never cook the noodles before hand and I have used all different brands of noodles. I just put a layer of sauce on the bottom of the pan and then just layer it starting with the noodles. I actually like to do this as I can spread the ricotta cheese on the noodles and it is always so much nicer. Sometimes, if the sauce seems a little thick I add a scant... -

ARCHIVED No Wheat Allergy...
sparkles replied to Kathy'sUnicorns's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I tested negative for a wheat allergy but with flattened villa and a positive biopsy, there is no doubt that I have celiac disease. An allergy is a whole different ballgame than celiac disease. -
ARCHIVED Can I Still Bake Regular Christmas Cookies With My Kids?
sparkles replied to Krickett's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Some grocery stores sell frozen cookie shapes at Christmas. I used to buy these when my kids were little. After all, it seemed that the most fun part was decorating the cookies with frosting, etc. for me it eliminated the mess of 3 sets of little hands trying to make the cookie batter and we all had a lot more fun when mom wasn't stressed! Of course,...
