ARCHIVED How Do I Know If I Have Other Intolerances?
sparkles posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have seen other posts about other intolerances...like corn and rice...etc. So how do you know if you have them? Is there a test or is it by trial and error? I have been gluten-free since summer 2002 but lately have been feeling like I did before I went gluten-free...nausea, stomach pains a little while after eating.... I have been really careful about... -
About the high chloresterol, mine was about 220 before being diagnosed with celiac disease. The doc tried Lipitor, I had the muscle reactions and stopped...never went back on a drug for it but my chlor. dropped to about 140 in 2 years. I think it had to do with the celiac disease. As my body healed, other things healed also. I also started using Smart...

My daughter was misdiagnosed with pnuemonia many times before a pulmanologist read the x-ray and said, she has asthma. Evidently, in young children, pediatricians misread the x-rays....might suggest to your doc that since she has had pnuemonia so many times she should probably see a pulmnaolgist to get the pnuemomia under control. I would say something...

ARCHIVED Asthma
sparkles replied to slpinsd's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I was diagnosed with asthma when I was 40 and the doc felt that it was related to the reflux problems that I had. It was explained to me that the part of the brain that controls the esophagas and the bronchial spasms are close to each other and the brain sometimes get confused as to what should have the spasm. This is really an elementary explanation..... -
ARCHIVED Foot Pain
sparkles replied to guy220d's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have diabetic neuropathy and also dietary neuropathy. The neurologist that I see found a B12, B1, and B6 deficiency. I have been on the B12 shots and have been taking vitamins for the B1 & 6 deficiency. I have been on the shots for about 5 months. I also started a nueropathy drug at the same time and the pain in feet and legs has lessened a great... -
You have really had a lot to deal with...what with the break-up and the celiac disease. But things will get better. As your body heals so will your heart and your mind. I suffered from depression for years and finally went off the anti-depression meds about 2 years after going gluten-free. I was afraid to try as I didn't want all that sadness back in...

ARCHIVED What Is A "safe" Amount Of Gluten In Food?
sparkles posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I thought when I was diagnosed with celiac disease I needed to be 100% gluten-free. I was reading the Delphi gluten-free product list and under coca cola, the company said that it could not guarantee that their products were 100% gluten-free but that the amount of gluten in their products (if gluten was present) was below the amount of gluten that the FDA... -
ARCHIVED Gluten-free "newbie" Package
sparkles replied to shellbean's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I recently found a website which I got from one of the posts here called www.celiacsociety.com that is extremely easy to navigate and has lots of food information. You might find though that cutting out wheat, rye, barley, and oats is easier without trying to supplement your diet with the gluten-free foods that are supposed to taste like the "real" thing... -
ARCHIVED Mac And Cheese? Other Comfort Foods
sparkles replied to sillyyak's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I use the gluten-free macaroni and just put in some cut up (Kraft) velveeta cheese with a little milk. It is better than the stuff that comes in the box. -
ARCHIVED Do You Eat It If It Doesn't Say "gluten-free"?
sparkles replied to gemma's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Gluten seems to be hidden everywhere....as for the Lays products, they use the same conveyer belts for all their products except the potato chips that come in the box with 2 bags inside. Like some of you, I read the label on Fritos and thought WOW Gluten Free.....but maybe some are and some aren't because of the cross contamination. I am really trying to... -
Welcome to the world of celiacs!!!! My primary doc has me send her articles on celiac disease that I find! She at least listens and wants to learn more about the disease. The more I learn, the more convinced I am that celiac disease is at the root of lots and lots of conditions. Before the diagnosis, I was plagued with lots of gastric symptoms and diagnoses...

Anyone out there experience vitamin deficiency???? When I was first diagnosed with celiac disease, my B12 was really low so I started shots. I quit after a year because I moved and changed docs. I need to add that I also have diabetis and diabetic neuropathy. I saw a new neurologist last fall and she felt that I also might have dietary neuropathy (new...

ARCHIVED I Need A Wedding Cake
sparkles replied to gointribal's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I recently remarried and the wedding "cake" that we shared was ALL frosting!!!! Two good friends made the wedding cake for the glutened crowd and I had my dream cake.....all frosting. I have never liked cake except carrot cake, and have really only liked the frosting so for me this was a dream come true....my very own "frosting cake". -
ARCHIVED Ener-g Foods
sparkles replied to gymnastjlf's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The pretzels are great...but watch the fat content in the foods...it is usually really high so I only eat them when I really want a snack that tastes like the ones I used to know!!!! I usually toast the bread and then slice it down the middle making two whole slices of bread. It doesn't taste too bad that way.... -
I don't cheat on purpose but I think there is a lot of hidden gluten out there. Like eating food that is supposedly gluten-free only to find out that the conveyor belts are dusted with flour or that there is the possibility of CC in plants even though the foods are gluten-free. I remember all too vividly how ill I was for about 15 years and in no way want...

ARCHIVED New Delphi Lists! Product Lists!
sparkles replied to celiac3270's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thank you for the lists...found a product on them that I had been using regularly because a friend had purchased it for me and told me that it was gluten free. Unfortunately, it isn't. It is the spice combo Spike and I have been regularly using it for 2 1/2 years.......she had originally bought it at a co-op where all the food is "natuaral" and they said... -

A year ago fall and winter, I had a horrible rash on my abdomin. By the time, I visited the doc, it was a bloody mess and he was sure that it was DH. He did a biopsy and sent me home with antibiotics, antihystamines, and told me to use lots of cortisone on it until I could stop the itching. He even called me from Hawaii (I live in MN) to see how I was...

ARCHIVED celiac disease And Diabetic And Lots Of Weight Gain
sparkles replied to sparkles's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I am type 2 and was diagnosed about 10 years ago and celiac about 4 years ago. One of my docs said that it was almost more important to be gluten-free and worry about the diabetis less. I don't take insulin. My blood sugars run about 140 which is on the high side...and I do feel better when they are lower...but even with them high, I do not feel as sick... -
ARCHIVED "food Labeling Policy Of Fda"
sparkles replied to Claire's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I found this site very informative. It distresses me that food manufacturers and the FDA do not see a problem with even a slight dusting of flour. I know that at times when I think that I am gluten free, I have eaten hidden gluten because stomach and digestive symptoms return. I am really sure that there is a lot more cc than we know about and because... -
ARCHIVED I Am A Little Freaked Out By What Im Reading
sparkles replied to hungryforlife's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Find a doc who will listen to you. Celiac's Disease in children is nothing to fool around with. I would rather be safe than sorry. Unfortunately, only a biopsy done with a camera to guide the biopsy will show the damage to the villa. A biopsy without the camera is based on dumb luck as to whether the doc hits the villa that is damaged. And, unfortunately... -
I suffered from migraines for about 40 years....very intense migraines that could be triggered by many foods, stress, light, etc... When I found out that I had celiac disease and became gluten free, the migraines disappeared. Even foods (like chocolate) that once triggered severe migraines no longer triggered them. I know that my migraines were related...

ARCHIVED celiac disease And Diabetic And Lots Of Weight Gain
sparkles posted a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I am having a really difficult time losing weight. When I was first diagnosed, I lost 30 # (I was really overweight...one of the reasons docs never thought that I could have celiac disease). I ate only hamburger patty and lettuce with oil and vinegar. I felt better than I had in years. Lots of other symptoms disappeared..like migraines, depression, and... -
Wow! You found a one in a million dietician....the first one I saw knew less about celiac disease than I did and I had just been diagnosed and had only had the web to tell me about it. I did see another dietician in Sept. because I was gaining weight and I am also diabetic. She was helpful but I still find it really hard to combine the two diets. My doctor...

ARCHIVED Flaxseed Oil To Heal Gi
sparkles replied to LivingtheGoodLife's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am new to this forum but I thought that flax seed was wheat....if it isn't what is it? the concept of grinding the seed sounds good to me and I am willing like everyone with celiac disease to try anything to lessen the symptons. I try to stay gluten-free but know that it is almost impossible with so many hidden ingredients and contamination.
