  1. We've used digestive enzymes of all brands to help with cc -- once while traveling I lost my bottle and remembered someone mentioned that "beano" is the same as digestive enzyme -- we tend to stick with "now" or "source naturals" but have never really found a difference among the brands...usually just get more expensive if marketed for "gluten".
  2. sounds yummy - my men will thank you
  3. My family loves it! I currently can't eat grains at all, but sure do miss waffles and pancakes made with gluten-free bisquick. If I'm remembering correctly the biscuits I made with it were really gritty - but the waffles - oh my - yummy!
  4. The most important clue in your statement was that there was a positive change during the month your daughter was gluten-free. It is important to stay on gluten during testing, but all the testing is now complete, even if you don't yet have endo results -- sounds like it is time to go 100% gluten-free for at least 3 to 6 months. That being said, I certainly...
  5. Try searching for olive oil potato chips -- I found a brand a while back which used only olive oil and salt -- ordered a case that lasted for several months worth of crunchy/munchy emergencies -- unfortunately I am no longer able to eat potato so I haven't ordered them in quite awhile.
  6. The learning curve is very tough! I was very similar to you -- when I first went gluten free I became even more sensitive to gluten -- tiniest cc made me bloat to very pregnant looking as well. I never found anything that helped much except become more strict gluten-free. A couple hints based on your post. ALWAYS carry gluten free snacks when...
  7. I just read the original post -- I also received the email from the Gluten Free Society regarding gluten free breads. The Gluten Free Society advocates removing ALL GLUTENS from the diet - Removing the glutens of all grains may indeed be important for some individual's health, BUT Celiac Disease is caused by the ingesting the gluten of Wheat, Barley...
  8. If you were not having digestive symptoms prior to diagnosis, you may not have reactions. Perhaps you have/or will become more sensitive to gluten the longer it has been removed from your diet and will be able to identify when you accidentally ingest. Were you diagnosed via bloodwork? If your tTG IgA was positive, repeating it could be helpful in monitoring...
  9. Celiac is certainly possible. Highly suggest getting Celiac Blood Panel before going gluten free as it is often helpful to adhere to a gluten free diet once you are confirmed Celiac. That being said....blood work can be false negative -- but if positive you have your answer. Completely removing gluten is not an easy process, but if needed -- completely...
  10. I am not familiar with the low iodine diet. Others have made suggestions for sweet treats, hopefully you can purchase some things to help get you through the rough patches of changing your diet. Do you have someone to talk to regarding how tough your dietary changes / health problems have been on you which led to the statement about suicide? Sibling...
  11. Oh...if only one doctor of the many, many I saw in the 42 years before I was dx'd had discovered a gluten problem in my children's Mom! Not only would I have avoided over twenty years of increasingly poor health -- my children would have avoided many health problems....any parent will tell you that one day of your child being sick is far worse than being...
  12. The learning curve is very tough the first few months...grocery store missions took so much time reading every flipping label...but you do learn what is safe and what is not...go easy on yourself during these first days...you will make mistakes...we were extremely careful, but it took quite awhile to completely rid our kitchen and my shopping missions of...
  13. My son had frequent canker sores that started as a toddler -- until he went gluten free at 15. Three years later -- he now only has them on rare occasion -- just prior to a cold/flu bug.
  14. We thought the same thing when we first started eating Udi's -- now other folks sandwiches look huge to us! My family's favorite bread has switched to Canyon Bakehouse if it is available near you -- it is sold in the "fresh" bread section of our Sprouts (used to be Henry's) Store -- guess it has been around for a little while but I was so trained to go to...
  15. Apple pancake -- grated apple, eggs, cinnamon pan fried into a big pancake topped with homemade blueberry syrup...tasted great, but I bloated a bit...haven't used cinnamon in a very long time -- will try again before I rule out cinnamon
  16. Like many of us here you have had a very rough road with docs, but I suggest minimally you get a full celiac panel along with vitamins/minerals = all Bs,D,K,iron, ferritin, copper, potassium, zinc as even if you should have a negative celiac panel - extremely low nutrients levels can indicate that you are not absorbing nutrients. I would like to add I am...
  17. I completely understand your confusion. I have had no reaction to potato and had severe bloat - going to study everyones suggestions before I try them again. Good luck on solving all these crazy puzzles
  18. Thanks! This is very interesting - I just found out I that I can't eat radish - did not know they were high in sulphites and have had minor ptoblem with some greens I've tried. I do eat the vegies you listed as well as eggs and occasionally grapes. The traffic comment makes some sense as well - when I ride my bike I try to avoid heavy traffic as it...
  19. Breakfast #1 is a fruit/vegie smoothie - I use just a regular blender as a vitamix or juicer isn't in our budget - sample smoothie is an apple/pear/blueberries/spinach but I've thrown in every combo - of fruits/ vegies/leafy greens Breakfast #2 is eggs with meat and a vegie. I usually start with sliced onion, add eggs and meat (either leftover from dinner...
  20. My list of reactions includes all but one of the above plus: Severe abdominal bloating (flat tummy to 9 months preg looking in minutes) Tingling mouth Itchy to rashes Lung issues to anaphalaxis Huge mental swing within hours after trialing one food The longer I was on a full elimination diet - the stronger many reactions became.
  21. I wish I could tell you the time frame in which you will feel better. It took over two years for me to even start healing -- turns out I had many food intolerances besides gluten that were impeding my gut from healing -- actually causing increased damage and symptoms. I also took a myriad of supplements over those two years (some helped B complex and...
  22. To confirm diagnosis - for many giving up gluten for life is not something they will do without an official dx. The endoscpy can also be helpful in determining the level of damage. Personally my damage was quite severe so I have had follow up endos. Again you will find of full spectrum of paths that have led folks to the gluten-free life - some with...
  23. Welcome - took over 20 years of seeing docs for the same symptoms that eventually became so bad I was in bed except for a few hours a day - the year I was dx'd I had over 50 blood tests and scans looking for every obscure disease until my internest called all five other docs in the clinic that day into the room so they could all question me at one time -...
  24. hard to say. You may find gluten bothers you after only a short time gluten-free. The reason I suggest some time without gluten is to see if you have even more improvement to your health since you are already gluten-free. There are no concrete formulas for celiac diagnosis - many have negative celiac panels and positive endos or vice versa. The...
  25. Can't recall how long you have been gluten-free. You need to have been eating substantial amounts of gluten for several weeks before the celiac blood panel.
