  1. IMHO... IBS = I Be Stumped. And a doctor saying all tests are normal is not acceptable....call or email his office for written or electronic copies of all blood/other tests that have been run. Often docs have not run a complete celiac antibody panel, nor enough nutrients. Even if they have run all the proper tests -- borderline lows in nutrients...
  2. I usually opt for the easy ones...but last few years I couldn't eat the ones all ready to throw in the crock....if anyone is reading along -- I do not believe there was any gluten in the corned beefs I have purchased...I just reacted to some other item used to turn them into corned beef! And I just read all the grocery store ads...I do miss thowing a...
  3. Dinner tonight is simple pork chops and homemade applesauce....maybe a vegie too. BUT...I bought a huge beef brisket and have it happily soaking in brine to become corned beef -- why is it called corned beef when there is no corn in the process? It gets to bathe until Sunday AM - then transfer to the crockpot with Green's Double Dark and a few spices...
  4. Just saw this Nicole....bummer -- must say I went thru a few similar "doh!" moments during my first year....after we learn the ropes it is easy to get a bit more lax -- unfortunately it about the same time we are becoming much more sensitive -- double whammy! And ya, I read all labels nearly every time -- our processed food purchases have dropped drastically...
  5. Best of luck Amanda! If you haven't been there yet HysterSisters is a great website
  6. I agree with Nicole -- have them run a complete celiac antibody panel: tTG - IgA and IgG EMA - IgA DGP - IgA and IgG along with nutrient blood tests: B1, B2, B6, B12, D, K, Iron, Ferritin, Copper and Zinc. If he hasn't had a CBC (Complete Blood Count) or CMP (Complete Metabolic Panel) add those in as well. Nicole is also right that the...
  7. Hang in there Peg....I used gluten-free tamari to make my last round of salmon jerky and I DID NOT GET SICK!!!! Granted I've been soy and other thing free for over a year and a half -- but it was a huge victory. On the flip side I tried my first legume and thought it was ok...but overdid on day 2 and lost them again -- for now. Ever hopeful that I will...
  8. Welcome! Your daughter's IgA is indeed in normal range -- which means all of the celiac antibody tests are accurate. I agree that with "silent" symptoms I would opt for the endoscopy as this information may be valuable both to see if the damage is significant or in the future for follow up. Please don't think that you could have prevented this...
  9. What were your other tests? Are you certain you have had a complete antibody profile for Celiac Disease? Nutrient testing? Sorry..I'm not sure I read your post correctly -- are you wanting an endoscopy or more blood tests? Hang in there - diagnosis of Celiac Disease is often very frustrating and unfortunately may necessitate a change of doctors...
  10. Yes, there is a genetic link in Celiac Disease. If your aunt and cousin have it -- your chances of having it are increased over general population. You need to ask your doctor's office for written copies (or electronic) of ALL test results. It is the only way to look back to compare previous results and to find out if you had ALL the necessary tests...
  11. Hi Diana- I would not promote wearing a mask unless your immune system is so weak that you can not leave the house without catching a cold or flu bug. Moderate precaution is wise for any of us -- I am extra cautious when out in the world....with food and I have a bandana around my neck for when I ride my bike that I use to cover my mouth & nose...
  12. Rambling is good....sharing our experience here is good. The reason many of us stick around on this forum is directly related to the theme of this thread...had ONE doctor known the actual symptoms of celiac disease of the many I went to over the past thirty years with IDENTICAL symptoms, perhaps my career and last ten years would not have been destroyed...
  13. Good Morning All! IrishHeart sent word via carrier pigeon that they are having major tech problems in Florida -- also mentioned I should send hugs from her to all of you until they can get something electronic up and running! Have a great day
  14. Do not remove gluten just yet. Those numbers clearly need referral to a gasterenterologist - preferably one with celiac experience - sadly not all GIs and Rhuematologists are experienced &/or up to date with current celiac research. Welcome to the forum - be sure to read the newbie 101 thread and ask any questions you may have.
  15. If it is the smells in the restaurant -- you can try putting oil of something that makes you feel very good under your nose before you go in -- essentially aroma therapy. Most health food stores sell many different oils...some have calming properties as well. The bottles are very small so you can bring it in your bag for easy touch up in the ladies room...
  16. Yay! L2T is back and with a wonderful "excuse note" -- nothing better than adding a new member to the family -- especially a very special dog! Me thinks Bingley will be eating better than most of us reading along -- one lucky pup! Does he have a Corgi rear end? I just love their little "pork chop" legs -- Any black spots on his tongue from the...
  17. If I need to eat out for any professional reason --- I bring my own. Always order a safe beverage as this is a great start at the table and with your server. When they return for meal orders...simply say: "I have celiac disease and cannot eat safely anywhere...can you please bring me your nicest bowl or plate so I can serve myself safely." They always...
  18. We were not designed as primary consumers of DE. I am trying to consider where it may be advantageous and must admit -- am at a loss. Can you educate me? Thanks
  19. Welcome Amanda! I had a hysterectomy -- not total -- 12 years ago due to cancer - wasn't diagnosed with Celiac until 4 years ago after decades of numerous symptoms. IBS is a collection of symptoms that are often the same as those with missed or un-diagnosed Celiac Disease. Let us know if we can help
  20. Yes, you can get through anything....the bad, tough and rotten -- along with the good and inspiring! I am in awe of you...keep the faith.
  21. I've thought this three times...so I am now posting...does L2T have a locator beacon or should we send S&R?
  22. Hell yes....gingerbread tomorrow...men will think it is Christmas again! Thanks for the idea
