ARCHIVED Ever Pass Out From Eating Wheat?
KaitiUSA replied to bigapplekathleen's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You do not have to have digestion symptoms. With celiac there are over 200 symptoms common ones including fatigue and some unrelated to digestion. 1-2% of celiacs also do not have the gene for it so it is possible you have it. It sounds like you had a reaction whether you arre celiac or gluten intolerant. -
Yes it needs to be gluten free not just wheat free. Most of the time as was said there will be rye, barley, and oats of some sort in it. They are good brands out there with cookies and so forth. Kinnikinnick has some really good donuts too https://www.celiac.com/st_main.html?p_catid=12 You should take a look at this list it has safe and forbidden foods...

If enzymes are quackery I would like that doc. to explain why they work Some doctors are stuck in the last century and have 1 way of thinking.

ARCHIVED Goldfish Crackers
KaitiUSA replied to momof2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You can order donuts, etc. from Kinnikinnick they have awesome chocolate donuts. Ener-G pretzels and glutino pretzels are good and you can get them at a health food store or just order them. -
ARCHIVED Article From Kraft On Their Gluten Labeling Policy
KaitiUSA replied to celiac3270's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If all companies would do what Kraft does I would be happy. As long as it is listed on the label I can live with it. -
ARCHIVED Exactly What Tests Do I Need?
KaitiUSA replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yep those are the tests you need done and I second Prometheus. They are an experienced lab when it comes to celiac. Also, they offer a gene test but my insurance didn't cover that part but it was a good thing for me to get done -
There are very many symptoms that come with celiac(over 200) so when your body heals at it's own pace your symptoms will start to go away. I take Liquid Vitamins Plus by Utrition and they are ultra absorbable as well. I take probiotics and enzymes by Enzymatic Therapy(they list on the bottle what they are free of) You can get these at a health food store...

ARCHIVED Think I May Be In The Same Boat
KaitiUSA replied to zoommedix's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes they will most likely come back negative. To get tested you need to be on a gluten filled diet. If you don't want to go back on gluten I would maybe recommend an Enterolab because you do not have to get back on gluten to be tested for that. Open Original Shared Link Here is their website where you can get more information if you want about that. Good... -
Hi welcome to the board. https://www.celiac.com/st_main.html?p_catid=12 This link provides safe and forbidden lists for celiacs. You will find that gluten can be hidden under alot so you have to be careful. Kraft and certain other brands make life easier for us...they do not hide any gluten in their ingredients...if their products do not say...

ARCHIVED Is This Normal Proceedure?
KaitiUSA replied to jcgirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You can be gluten intolerant but not celiac. EMA is a test for celiac. All you have to ask for is a celiac gene test. I would consider getting an Enterolab done...they do not require you to get back on gluten for testing. -
ARCHIVED Enterolab
KaitiUSA replied to parkerrmmc's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I know they are not widely accepted by the medical community yet (even though I think they are definately on the right track) so I doubt they would order them unless you find a doctor who is supportive of Enterolabs. I don't know about insurance paying because I haven't had one done. Good luck -
Laura I had high pulse and low blood pressure when standing and my heart felt like it was racing and I would get so tired. They found out I have Graves Disease which is Hyperthyroid. You may want to have your thyroid checked it runs with celiac alot. My doctor told me there are rarely any celiacs with just celiac.

exactly...and things with MSG, hydrogenated oils, and so forth too.

ARCHIVED Natural Flavorings Etc.
KaitiUSA replied to jenvan's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am strongly against oats...they have high amounts of contamination of wheat. So I would strongly stay away from Honey Comb. The cocoa pebbles and fruity pebbles are gluten free. Kraft is a good brand thouugh they will clearly list wheat, rye, barley, oats. With Kraft and some other brands all you have to do is read labels they are very celiac friendly -
What is the expectation of normal ? I consider myself lucky that celiac is all it was..my friends 16 yr old friend died of cancer last week....I mean it could be worse for us...so what we have to check some labels and no its not the most convenient but we were able to get better and we can keep this under control and still live our lives and experience things...

ARCHIVED Spelt Pretzels
KaitiUSA replied to momof2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yeah Ener-G ones are so delicious...they need to come in bigger bags. Glutano also makes pretzels(in bigger bags) that are pretty good but not as good as Ener-G. -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed And Clueless
KaitiUSA replied to adorrell's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It took me about 3 months to really see a change and then a few more months to get back to normal. It is so worth it otherwise you put yourself at risk for tons of things that are very serious and life threatening. https://www.celiac.com/st_main.html?p_catid=12 Here is a link to the forbidden and safe lists that celiac3270 was talking about and... -
ARCHIVED Natural Flavorings Etc.
KaitiUSA replied to jenvan's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yeah if I was told they were gluten-free in the hospital I would have had it too. It's really not good business for them to say 2 things. I will tell you what they tell me today. I eat yoplait's original alot....are the custard style ones good? I haven't tried them yet. -
ARCHIVED Spelt Pretzels
KaitiUSA replied to momof2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
O boy she recommended spelt bread ...my grandma recommended rye bread a few weeks ago Thanks for putting the link to that list celiac3270 I couldn't get the link at the time I posted. -
ARCHIVED Spelt Pretzels
KaitiUSA replied to momof2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Can't put it more clear then that....Spelt is a definate no no. Some health food store employees tried to tell me it was safe(when I first started the gluten-free diet) thankfully I knew better and had to inform them. I would print out the forbidden foods list from celiac.com and I can provide you the link if you would like one but it is a good guideline... -
ARCHIVED Natural Flavorings Etc.
KaitiUSA replied to jenvan's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yeah I agree all of their answers should be the same...kind of has be skeptical about them. I think I will call them tomorrow and ask them #1 if they are gluten-free and if they say they are I am going to ask why their website doesn't say that -
ARCHIVED Question About Iga
KaitiUSA replied to Sharon C.'s topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yeah the one says positive or negative right on the results but the others come in numbers. celiac3270 is right it is very unlikely if EMA came back negative along with your other ones then you probably do not have it. One thing about just the IgA anti-gliadan is that many celiacs can be IgA deficient so you should get the EMA done and other tests done specifically... -
ARCHIVED Question About Iga
KaitiUSA replied to Sharon C.'s topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The results don't come in plus and minus' like above. He was using that to interpret the resulsts. The + means a positive and the - means negative and then they are color coded with IgA, IgG, etc. To me the levels don't seem high.. I think they are in the normal range but I am not sure about that one. Did they test you for tTG? There are certain tests that...
