ARCHIVED Do Your Kids Have It, Too?T.H. replied to GlutenNoMore's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms My daughter tested positive after I was diagnosed, and her symptoms were exhaustion and difficulty with depression, low frustration tolerance, anxiety. I'd probably add in congestion and getting sick a lot on top of that. She was overweight as well. My son tested negative, but he had a bloated belly, very small stature, and anger issues. We took...

ARCHIVED Overreactive Nervous System/hypersensitivityT.H. replied to revenant's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms My daughter and I are both sensitive to sounds, big time. Both feel guilt and shame easily. All of these have dissipated on the gluten free diet to a great extent. Not completely, but it is SO much less now.

ARCHIVED Celiac Causing Neuropathy?T.H. replied to rose-thorn98's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Possibly. They thought it was caused by something else - partially herniated disc in my neck affecting the nerves down my arms. However, since going gluten free, I don't get those symptoms any more at all, and I don't think I've healed up a partially herniated disc, so I'm thinking yes. Also had vertigo (possibly vestibular ataxia?) that clears up as...

ARCHIVED An 8-Year Old's SymptomsT.H. replied to Ashlin's Mama's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs If you're trying to see if it's gluten? Here's some ideas for the REALLY sensitive celiacs (which we are starting to realize my daughter is). - I'd call up any company you get a grain/flour from and see what level of gluten they allow. If it helps? I was just doing that, because my daughter was reacting to some and I was trying to determine what her...

ARCHIVED Celiac Or Not That Si The QuestionT.H. replied to SYBERBUNNI's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease Yeah, I'd second that - your doctor is knowledgeable, Jensen's is definitely NOT. And also...even if the biopsy is negative, it might be worth you while to go gluten free anyway and see if it helps. My daughter and son were tested after I was diagnosed. Daughter came back positive, son came back negative. I took them both off gluten, and they both...

ARCHIVED Watermelon And Honey Sensitivies?T.H. replied to revenant's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease Yeah - seems like that would be. I've heard of corn allergic people reacting to honey because the bees were fed corn syrup (just like the pollen gets into the honey, the corn does, too), but I believe most people I know who had that issue were very, very sensitive to corn. I would imagine you would already have other issues if you were that sensitive to...

ARCHIVED Is Gluten Getting In Her?T.H. replied to SYBERBUNNI's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease While I think there are definitely other possibilities - thyroid definitely comes to mind - the aches and pneumonia and such - does make me wonder if you might be right about the gluten. My daughter had no stomach pains before going gluten free (she's 12 now, been gluten free a year). After about 6 months, she started getting stomach pains, so we were...

Well, I know that I felt very sick after going gluten free - nausea and headaches were part of my reaction, too. And it definitely was hidden gluten for me. I didn't feel nauseous at all before going gluten-free, but it totally hit me afterward, within days. And soy - that does get CC by gluten fairly frequently, yeah, I'm sorry to say. Honestly...

I'm sensitive as well and both myself and my daughter have had trouble with Reese's PB cups. My daughter is less sensitive to gluten than myself, and she has less trouble with them, however. Very mild reaction. They don't have any added gluten, and they are on a gluten free line (last I talked to them), but they are still processed around other foods...

Yeah, the Rice Dream uses barley during the processing, but since it's not an added ingredient they don't have to mention it. But I've heard many anecdotal accounts of reactions to it. We had a lot of problems with pre-made non-dairy milks, too. They were gluten free, but not gluten free enough for us, sadly. The good news, though, is that it's actually...

ARCHIVED Watermelon And Honey Sensitivies?T.H. replied to revenant's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease the same reaction with honey and soda sets of a 'corn' red flag for me. Quite a few honey companies have started to cut their honey with corn syrup. Unfortunately, some of them (even really expensive ones) do it illegally, without noting it on the label. There are many complaints by people in the honey industry to investigate it, at the moment.

ARCHIVED New Symptoms In 7 Yr. Old Are Confusing MeT.H. replied to rysmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs Another potential issue if the others don't pan out is that he IS getting glutened. It may be more likely than you think. 1. Getting more sensitive to gluten (aka reacting to lower levels now) is not unheard of. It has happened to both myself and my daughter, where foods that were safe for her in the beginning now give her symptoms. And her symptoms have...

That happened to my 12 year old, who was diagnosed via blood test. She had no stomach issues before going gluten free. After a few months, she started to develop stomach reactions to gluten that have persisted since then. We know it is a gluten reaction because I am a celiac too and we've both had reactions to the same foods at times.

This has been my experience... From what I've seen, you are very unlikely to have to deal with super-sensitivity yourself. It's pretty rare. I have met very, very few people who are that sensitive. Probably you can avoid worrying about what you touch other than the typical washing of hands before eating, you know? I think this forum possibly has...

ARCHIVED Refactory CeliacT.H. replied to CarolinaKip's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease Argh - I do, but I'm trying to find it among my research and it looks like it's gonna take a bit, sigh. Poor organization strikes again! I'll email you as soon as I ferret it out. Possibly this is listed on medscape - that was the site I was looking at most on the day I found the study. And now - time to go organize the files, eh?

ARCHIVED First Time Glutened? CVS Med To Blame?T.H. replied to GFshay's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease Could be the pills, could be your food. For the meds. gluten-free food can pretty easily be contaminated, or have higher levels of gluten than your body can tolerate. That's one of the frustrating parts about celiac disease. We all have differing levels of sensitivity, and 'gluten free' is merely 'gluten less than a certain amount', so we often have to...

I had to do an elimination diet before I started to feel better. I dropped all processed foods. I kept a food journal. I found out a few foods that are allergies, and, it turns out, quite a few foods that are gluten free but still have enough gluten to set off my symptoms, since I seem to be pretty sensitive. Perhaps you are very sensitive as well...

ARCHIVED Diagnosed Celiacs And Not Following The gluten-free Diet 100%?T.H. replied to SaraKat's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease I expect the percentage of cheating is pretty close to the percentage of mild reactions, ya know? We have four diagnosed celiacs in my family. 2 of us have nasty reactions - no cheating ever. 2 of us have very mild reactions - a mild case of D, a little tummy grumbling for a day - cheat at least once every week or so. I would not be surprised if...

ARCHIVED Dictating What Others Can Eat Around Me?T.H. replied to Cypressmyst's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease Ah hon - right there with you!!! I've likely had this since I was 16, only diagnosed in my thirties. And I have slowly realized that I am crazy sensitive, too. :-( And yes, I completely believe that extremely small doses of airborne gluten can get me, because the reactions are pretty specific and the reaction has happened when I had NO idea that...

ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed, Need Advice!T.H. replied to Annie4439's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease You could be getting more gluten in your gluten free food than you are from your pans, actually. ( Open Original Shared Link ) Grains that are naturally gluten free, and other food items that would normally not contain gluten, are quite often contaminated when they are harvested, transported, milled, or processed. So this can affect both the whole...

I'm unfortunately right there with you. I kind of wonder if some of that doesn't go along with having a lot of trouble with it. My father and brother don't have much of a reaction, and they are both more laid back about it. Myself and my daughter get very sick and have had to research and struggle quite a bit to try and get healthy, and we think about...

ARCHIVED Sandy Poop - How Long Until This Gets Better?T.H. posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs If you had a baby/toddler who had grainy/sandy poop as one of their symptoms of celiac disease, how long did it take on a gluten free diet for this to go away? I have a friend whose toddler has developed sandy poop. No change in diet, the mom is with baby all day and knows he's not getting into anything, so she's been worrying. The baby has had other...

It says it is, but I think the important thing to remember when you're trying to track down what may have glutened you is that 'gluten free' is a range rather than absolute zero. If your gluten tolerance is lower than where this sauce's gluten free range is, than it could still be making you sick, you know?

ARCHIVED Refactory CeliacT.H. replied to CarolinaKip's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease I'm pretty much there with dilletantesteph - not quite to that level, but the way things are going, I think I'm going to be. However, to support that idea? I was reading a study on refractory celiac disease that used two things to try and see if they could take care of it. The first was to make all the celiacs take even MORE gluten out of their diets....

So sorry for you! Well, re: the gluten? Could be the splenda or the throat drops, because unfortunately 'gluten free' does not actually mean 'no gluten.' It just means less than a certain amount of gluten (and that amount is determined by country), and there are varying levels of sensitivity to gluten, so some people will still react to some products...
