ARCHIVED Severe ConstipationT.H. replied to gemstar8069's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs I had constipation for years, off and on, that I thought was a problem that had developed because of my first pregnancy - nope, it was all gluten, for me. I notice it as a reaction now when I get gluten. If you are waiting results, it couldn't hurt to go off gluten, just in case - there's always non-celiac gluten intolerance, too, where the tests are negative...

I'd say CC could be likely - none of these are on the low end of gluten free, I don't believe. And as another sensitive celiac buddy? Any of those three would likely get me. If, however, I was going to pick the most likely - just looking at food, not brands - I'd take a look at the beans and corn. Beans and grains tend to be grown in the same fields...

We had some good gluten-free quinoa on hand yesterday when we were trying out a recipe, but no quinoa flour. However, I also have a grain grinder that we hadn't used. So, of course, we decided to try to grind our own quinoa flour. It turned out great, our little 'pie dough' cookies we made turned out great (1 cup rice flour, 1/2 cup quinoa flour, 1 stick...

ARCHIVED "Super Sensitive" Celiacs.....T.H. replied to jerseyangel's topic in Super Sensitive People It's kind of mind-blowing, isn't it, when we go from 'nope, not noticing this is gluten' to 'OMG, what the heck?!!!' So far, I can go near gluten and breathe okay - or I can recover my breathing with some relaxation exercise before I go into a known gluten hazard or after my throat is weird, but I seem to get glutening symptoms, so I haven't tested...

ARCHIVED Feels Like Im Reacting To Every Kind Of Food:(T.H. replied to Mama Melissa's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease I had a problem reacting to nearly every food, as well, when I first went gluten free. Very difficult to deal with - you have my utmost sympathy! For myself, vitamins, probiotics and fish oil all made things worse. They are gluten free, yeah, but they had more gluten than some of the processed gluten free products that I was trying to avoid in the first...

ARCHIVED Feels Like Im Reacting To Every Kind Of Food:(T.H. replied to Mama Melissa's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease When I was trying to avoid corn for my family, I got a lot of help to figure out what was safe, and what wasn't, from this website: Open Original Shared Link She has an allergy to the stuff, so she always knows when she encounters corn, and she has a list of products and brands that have been safe for her. :-) I was thinking corn was getting...

ARCHIVED How Much Do You Spend On Groceries?T.H. replied to snifter's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease About $700-$800 a month for a completely gluten free, 4 person family. That's with veggies, fruits, meats, grains, beans, and nuts. If we get dairy or processed foods, it's more - I spend more on my stupid food sometimes than on my mortgage. One big killer for us is the meats. I'm very sensitive to antibiotic residues because of my allergies to antibiotics...

Oh goodness, no, you're not whinging! Very, very legitimate gripe. But I think perhaps reading the following might help: Open Original Shared Link It has to do with public school, not universities (in the USA), but it is relevant to your circumstances for one reason: Celiac Disease can be considered as covered under the American Disabilities Act, depending...

ARCHIVED Poll: How Were You Diagnosed? (Or Were You?)T.H. replied to flutterby's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease I was diagnosed by a blood test and biopsy, but like CassP, I consider myself self-diagnosed, doctor confirmed...although I was more self-checking-to-see-if-this-could-be-a-problem. I'd been sick for over 2 decades, celiac disease was never even considered by my doctors, even with my family history. I'm the one who ended up asking for the tests, not them...

ARCHIVED What Brand Of Dishsoap Do You Use?T.H. replied to gflooser's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications *cough* Actually... Heh, and even that can get some of us. Some paper plates use corn starch in between them to help them not stick together. It's considered part of the packaging, so it doesn't need to be labeled, and if it's cc'd with gluten? Well, then we just can't win for losing. Sometimes, I think I would have done better as a neanderthal...

ARCHIVED Crazy Vertigo All Day Long?T.H. replied to UnhappyCoeliac's topic in Related Issues & Disorders You know, don't know if this will help or not, but maybe? I have to be super, super gluten free to avoid any vertigo, so if it helps, this is a version of my diet that seems to help me, at least. I guess I'd call it the good 'starting' diet to eliminate as much gluten as possible, for a week or two, see if it helps, ya know? Then one could move up and...

Honestly, nothing would surprise me anymore, ya know? Celiac disease seems to have an effect on every system in our body, so why not the reproductive one, too? For both my pregnancies, when I was undiagnosed as a celiac, I had massive braxton hicks starting at about 6 months. I had bed rest for the first, but knew what to do when it started the second...

ARCHIVED Looking For Gluten-Free Finger Food Ideas (For Baby)T.H. replied to slee's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs Exactly! Mine was a bit smaller, just 9 pounds, but I was flabbergasted. Even worse, I met another mom who had this doctor who absolutely believed him and stopped breastfeeding because she had a big baby.. So sad.

ARCHIVED Need Some Advice For ThanksgivingT.H. replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease I know that stores like Trader Joe's and Whole Foods have some pre-prepared meats that you might be able to just buy and bring with you. Trader Joe's has a ham steak in a sealed package that's labeled gluten free - we got that for my kids last year for Thanksgiving. I think there are some turkey breasts that have the same label. Also, Applegate Farms...

ARCHIVED Symptoms Returning After Initial CureT.H. replied to dws's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease :D Heh - I think the gluten community could easily make a horror movie with what we've seen. Terror in the Bathroom - it's beyond description.

You know, if you find Lays stax, if you could mention what store you found them in, I think it might help a lot of us - I've been looking all over the place, and I haven't found a store that carries them here, yet.

ARCHIVED "Super Sensitive" Celiacs.....T.H. replied to jerseyangel's topic in Super Sensitive People Ooh, yes, I missed it the first time around! I kind of want to share how I arrived at figuring this out, my own sensitivity, I suppose in part because maybe it might help someone else. It's just a bit wacky, heh. Before my diagnosis, I was one of the 'silent' celiacs. After I went gluten-free with my celiac diagnosis, and I was sick within days...

Oh so sorry to hear that! I know just what you mean - I get this weird pain right where my kidneys are when I get glutened, sometimes, and I DID go to the doctor the first time, and yup - tests got nothing, so it must be in my head. Can't win for losing, sometimes, you're absolutely right. HOpe that you recover quickly and smoothly, with lots...

ARCHIVED I Hear Gluten Free Get Grouped With Things Like VegetarianismT.H. replied to UnhappyCoeliac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease Don't forget organic - you don't have to check the labels of things that are organic, right? They'd never had added gluten or cross contamination.
-
So sorry this is an issue. I've run into this with my mother in law and my son's allergy to milk (which is, thank god, very mild and not anaphylactic). I offered make/bring some dairy free dishes for him, she's mad. I offered to just bring his food, she's mad. for the first visit after we discovered the allergy, when she was adamant that she wanted to make...

ARCHIVED Olive Oil?T.H. replied to jasonD2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease Spectrum brand olive oil is the one that also processes wheat germ oil, although there's been a few others I reacted to - I haven't used Trader Joe's, personally.

I don't know that this would be relevant to your case, but I'll share in case it is! I've only been gluten free about a year, but after a rough patch of it, I was trying to get on the 'normal' gluten free diet. However, the last few months I discovered that I am more sensitive to gluten than average. Here's one of the weird things, though. When I eliminated...

Oh goodness, so sorry you're having such trouble!! To answer anything I can think of, or just comment on. 1. If you haven't figured out your son's tummy trouble, I would SO recommend taking him off of gluten for a while to see if it helps. My son was negative too (with other positive celiacs in the family) and we all went gluten free, and what symptoms...

ARCHIVED I Feel Like A HypochondriacT.H. replied to Coolclimates's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease Well holy crud, I might be able to help you! I've been gluten-free for a year now. My re-check blood test still showed high levels, although I was very gluten free. I was having lots of trouble with reactions, though, so he thought it was likely I was reacting to foods I was intolerant to, and that it was keeping me from healing. He said that's happened...

ARCHIVED What Brand Of Dishsoap Do You Use?T.H. replied to gflooser's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications Not to start an argument - well, okay, maybe start a small spirited discussion - I don't know that I'd agree with the idea that if something is a problem for celiacs, we would find it mentioned in the celiac literature. So far, it has been my experience that celiacs themselves have been noticing and discussing problems with their disease long before...
