  1. I wish you could sit down with someone traditionally recognised as "disabled." Someone like-oh, your son. Are you incapable of doing for yourself? I don't think so. Have you ever read anything by Temple Grandin? She is autistic. The world might see her as "disabled," but I doubt she sees herself that way. She is a nationally recognized scientist and...
  2. Maybe invite her to read up on the topics on this forum. Maybe in a few weeks when your topic has gone down the line, or maybe not. Other people's stories can possibly open her eyes to see what the dangers of occasional poison ingestion are. You are a great guy to be so concerned for her health. And her being so defensive? That could be the gluten talking...
  3. (((HUGS))))) You can do it!!
  4. Well, my mom lives in Albuquerque, so I gave her a call. She said that she hasn't been able to find green chile that isn't safe. Apparently the SW loves flour. . . . Her recommendations(?) are: Little Anitas (not sure on gluten-free status) Be careful of chips (everywhere), often fried with sopapillas. Sadies, good gluten-free menu, again, not sure...
  5. I've had the white chocolate bars without a problem, and they don't list wheat. I bought the chocolate/caramel bars before too for my husband and they didn't list wheat either. I'm super sensitive, and generally will have a problem from products that are produced on the same lines. I haven't had a problem from these, but if the box lists wheat, I wouldn...
  6. The easter candy could have been packaged on shared lines too. I've noticed that a lot. -Daisy
  7. A recent post via Facebook from the ever knowledgable Shelley Case: Open Original Shared Link -Daisy
  8. Besides the "HI! THIS IS WHEAT/BARLEY/RYE/OATS," the only thing I look out for is tocopheryl acetate. This is Vitamin E, and may be made from wheat or soy. The only things I've seen on labels (I don't check nail polish) are clearly labeled wheat and oats, and just avoid Aveeno, it's all oats anyway. I am in the US. -Daisy
  9. Are you scheduled for an endo yet? Do you feel that it is necessary to be diagnosed? (Consider future Doctors, sometimes they don't believe you have Celiac unless you have been diagnosed by a Dr.) Reason I ask is because you must stay on gluten to get a diagnosis from an endo. However, you will feel better, (Though not immediately) from about all of your...
  10. I wondered about the high altitude baking too, but so far, it hasn't been a problem! It's a nice change to not have to modify each recipe for high altitude - AND gluten free!! I will do a plug here for Carol Fenster's cookbooks- she's a local, you can actually run into her at the Denver Metro Celiac meetings. So, she understands high altitude baking, and...
  11. When you get the allergy testing done, they are prepared for any adverse reactions. So don't worry about anything bad happening while you are there! They will take care of you. Best of luck! Try to keep a food diary, track what you eat, and what symptoms you have afterwards. This may be the best bet--allergy testing for foods won't always show all of...
  12. You write that "Gluten is dictating my life choices." I felt the same was until a few nights ago when my husband brought up a good point. You have the choice to stay in Columbia and continue your life exactly as you have been. Or you have the choice to take precautions and cook your own food, and continue to live where you are. Or you have the choice...
  13. Hi Colorado, another Coloradan here. Things that I didn't even think were a problem got better after gluten free. And yes, 100% free. I enjoy being more cheerful, upbeat, and the best one, awake!! I didn't even realize how tired I was all the time! So there are benefits besides just the stomach stuff! By the way, check out www.denverceliacs.org...
  14. Didn't think so!! But I'm also not one to presume--safer that way! Take care. -Daisy
  15. NASH is marked by both elevated liver enzymes and fatty deposits. Open Original Shared Link The diagnosis is confirmed with a biopsy. I dealt with this diagnosis with my husband, and in my opinion, it is the diagnosis for alcholics in denial and a way for Drs. to allow them to stay that way. Just like Drs. can tell people "oh, you have IBS" as...
  16. Welcome to the forums! I don't know that I have any input, but I know others will ask this, so I'll start the ball rolling. . . What are you eating for dinner the night before? Are you keeping a food journal? Are there any medications you are taking at night--and have you had those checked by your pharmacist to be sure they are safe? Any lotions or...
  17. Hi Julie! I'm glad you are going for health, and going gluten free (and yes, dairy free too, at least for a while). 1. Back to basics is whole foods, no processed foods. Meats, vegatables, fruits, are all okay. The outsides of the grocery store are our friend! The downside, is that meal preperation takes a little bit longer. The upside, is that...
  18. He brushes his teeth first-even before just a little hello kiss. I'm too sensitive to have it otherwise, and we both prefer me healthy! -Daisy
  19. I use Bare Minerals. I got my last "pot" in Feb., and still have several months left. As far as Dr. Oz's speculation that the particles are likely to lead to pneumonoultramicrosopicvolcanosilaconosis (not sure on the spelling there, but it's one of my favorite words!) or related syndromes, I consider that highly unlikely. That particular disease was what...
  20. ((((Hugs)))) Not much else to say, just that. -Daisy
  21. Fage is great!! Just found it, and I am addicted. Yummmmmmy. -Daisy
  22. I agree with Peter. (It's hard not too ) Shelley Case is an amazing resource--her book, her website, herself--if you ever get a chance to hear her speak, GO!!! I got to hear her at about three months gluten free, and after that, I felt like I could handle things. She also gives a lot of good nutritional information on 'alternative' grains. -Daisy
  23. Shea butter is safe. -Daisy
  24. I like booths apricot oil firming body lotion. I've gone through 3 bottles now, and while one was a bit greasy, it was only the top part! I just had to mix it up a bit to get past that. Best part is the smell, just a nice light citrus scent that is (so far) not offensive to those with sensitive smellers--like me! I got it at Ulta, you can order it online...
