ARCHIVED Nature Made Acidophilus Probiotics
butterfl8 replied to twe0708's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I use these and have found them to be great. I like the fact they don't have to stay in the fridge, where I'll forget them. I take one in the morning, and one at night. This helps keep away what had been a monthly yeast infection. The price is great too. So, it works for me, it may not for others, but it does for me! -Daisy -
ARCHIVED I... But... Look, Can Someone Tell Me If This Is A Lot?
butterfl8 replied to MagpieWrites's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Previous to your post, I thought my mil was crazy. She had been diagnosed with conversion disorder, which means that when she thought she had pancreatic cancer, she began to show the symptoms of cancer physically. WITHOUT THE CANCER. But I take it all back now. She is sane. Difficult, yes. But still sane. You are wonder woman for dealing with her so... -
ARCHIVED Dealing With Not Feeling Accepted
butterfl8 replied to Tehana's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Above all, congrats to you on all your research. And on feeling better! I've started trying to find non-food related activites to do with my friends. The fact that they see me now, as opposed to not at all before, shows them that I am better. Avoiding food helps me! Best of luck to you, keep in touch here, let us know how you are doing. And yes, If... -
ARCHIVED Getting A Good Breakfast On The Go!
butterfl8 replied to dhiltonlittle's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Udi's Lemon Struesel Muffins! 22 Seconds in the microwave, and I'm ready to go. (22 because it's easier to hit the 2 twice than it is to hit 2, than 0!) Udi's also has blueberry. Demand your grocer carry these essentials. Or toast with peanut butter. -Daisy -
ARCHIVED Lots Of Food Intolerances--I'm Miserable!
butterfl8 replied to Link's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Herbs! Dill, thyme, oregeno, basil. Make inufusions, rubs, and put them on your food to make them yummy good. Since you loved to cook, you can start combining different herbs and even lemon juice to discover which flavors you like best. I like using different flavors with different parts of the meal to see how the flavors taste together. One night was... -
ARCHIVED Unusual Dreams, Heavy Sleep And Day Exhaustion
butterfl8 replied to GReilly's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I too noticed at first that I began to remember my dreams more when I went gluten free. My dreams didn't disturb me, so I just enjoyed them and went on my way, so to speak. Perhaps you will find that to be the case for you as well, as time goes on. I do take 250 mg magnesium when I go to bed, that helps me drop right off. I do wake up early, usually about... -
Apperances will count for nothing when we are all white haired and wrinkly anyway. Enjoy her company and let her learn who you are inside. Learn who she is on the inside. Friendships build better relationships. -Daisy

Well, that sounds familiar! My migraines started when I was 20 too, and now the three meds I'm on help. . . 150 per night topomax, and Frova and Midrin for an attack. I tried imitrex once, and the pain got worse. Anyway, my migraines have been better since being gluten-free, but that could also be because I was demoted just before being diagnosed. The...

ARCHIVED Benefits Of Living Gluten-Free
butterfl8 replied to Glutin-Free Man's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thank you, David. A great time for this, as I've just come back from dinner at my Celiac sister's house and been glutened again. Love my family, hate their cooking habits/food. I love that I am so much more tolerant now that I am Gluten Free. Before my diagnosis, I hated a lot of things. Movies were all stupid, TV shows were stupid, my co-workers... -

ARCHIVED How Should I Handle This In The Future?
butterfl8 replied to BigDogz's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Amarretto is safe! I would have been VERY sad if it wasn't! You could also try Rum & coke. I seem to remember bars like to use very little rum to cut costs. Can't always guarentee that, though. I had the same problem with high amounts of sugar (yeast infections), but it seems to have stopped now that I take probiotics. I use acidophilus by Nature... -
ARCHIVED Depression: Any 1 W/ It Or Had It And Its Gone
butterfl8 replied to Christina98's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Been on and off meds for depression for 12+ years. Went Gluten free in late July, stopped the cymbalta in. . . November? Yea, that sounds right. My husband says that I'm real again, that I feel all emotions again. I think he means he likes it that I cry at the drop of a pin again. I'm not so sure I like that. . . At any rate, I'm enjoying not taking... -
ARCHIVED L-Glutamine Supplement: Good Or Bad?
butterfl8 replied to breavenewworld's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I second Vicky! I take L-glutamine after a glutening and it helps. I also took it right after my diagnosis upon recommendation of the nutritionist I saw. She said that hospitals even use it to help intestinal healing. She recommended 2000 mg, 3x per day. Enjoy! -Daisy -
ARCHIVED What Can I Do To Help Speed Recovery?
butterfl8 replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
L-glutamine has helped me too. Apparently it is supposed to help rebuild the cells of the intestines! Sounds perfect, no? The nutritionist I saw when first diagnosed recommended 2000 mg, 3x per day. Don't think it will speed anything up, healing wise, but it does help the healing. -
ARCHIVED Are There Levels Of Sensitivity In Celiacs?
butterfl8 replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Brief answer: yes. There are different levels of sensitivity to gluten. I was diagnosed in late July, and am pretty (annoyingly) sensitive. My sister was tested about 2 months later after a gluten challenge, and she can "cheat" without any noticeable GI effects. I have to watch when I put on lotion, because if I put it on, and then eat with my hands, and... -
ARCHIVED Lipstick Ingredients
butterfl8 replied to CecilyF's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Welcome! These two are the concern for me: Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Tocopherol Acetate (Vitamin E). Vitamin E is often sourced from our favorite plant, wheat. The lipstick alternatives I've found are from Target: Pixi Lip Blush. It is a lip stain, so lasts all day. Down side is the price ($18), and it seems to be somewhat drying. Or that could my tendency... -
ARCHIVED Anynne With Barrett's Esophagus?
butterfl8 replied to odcdinah's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My husband (non celiac) has barretts. He just had a follow-up endoscopy today, after his preliminary diagnosis 2.5 years ago. It sounds like little change for his barretts. That is impressive, considering how much he wasn't taking care of himself. In other words--be sure to not do any thing like, smoke, chew tobacco, and if you are on meds for GERD, take... -
ARCHIVED Is This All Related To Celiac?
butterfl8 replied to ashlea's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I hear you on the yeast infections!! Not fun at all. I noticed that if I watch how much sugar I eat (the less the better), the monthly yeast infection has nearly gone away. I'm also taking probiotics (Nature Made has one--Acidophilus) 2x a day, and when I get that familiar feeling, I take some of the odorless garlic (also from Nature Made). I really think... -
ARCHIVED Hypothyroidism Or Super Sensitive Gluten Reaction?
butterfl8 replied to butterfl8's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks everyone! I do love my l-glutamine. Apparently it is supposed to focus on healing the intestine. . . it does seem to help mine. All my typical gluten reactions are better now. But the cold and muscle soreness are still hanging on. Of course it doesn't help at all that Denver is in deep freeze mode with a high today of 12 degrees. Driving to work... -
ARCHIVED Hypothyroidism Or Super Sensitive Gluten Reaction?
butterfl8 posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Okay, enough muddling though on my own--I'm turning to the experts! So last Monday I went to my friend's house with a great deal of apprehension. I did not eat anything!! But she had made her daughter's birthday cake, and pizza crusts earlier that day, from scratch. So there was most likely flour floating around in the air. I did not spend much time... -
ARCHIVED New To This - Help Please
butterfl8 replied to KikiUSA's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Welcome to feeling better! Whole foods are best--I love the outside of the grocery store. My two doctors and the nutritionist I saw upon my diagnosis recomended the following: Avoid diary for the first 3-6 months, until the villi have healed up enough to tolerate it again. As far as lunch meats, Hormel does have some great options, as does Oscar Mayer... -
ARCHIVED My Health And Marriage Issues
butterfl8 replied to BeckyMN's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Echoing Tiffany, the solution for *my* relationship was counseling. My husband and I were already in a rough place when I got my Dx. We were both willing to work on our marriage, and found a great psychologist to work with us. It took a year to (begin to) get over all our issues, but it was worth it. Open and honest communication are the keys for us.... -
ARCHIVED Cat Litter & Cat Food
butterfl8 replied to Tigercat17's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The "World's Best Cat Litter" really is the best, and is made of corn. Best of all, it isn't dusty like clay litters. And it seems to last forever. It really seems to be the best!!
