ARCHIVED Gluten Free Beer
DougE replied to joannah's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
WOW! That was a tiny font. Let's try again... There have been a number of discussions on this topic recently. There are a number of gluten-free beers but availability depends on where you are. The best summary of what is out there is right here Open Original Shared Link -

ARCHIVED Best Gluten Free Magazines And Websites
DougE replied to powerofpositivethinking's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The two I have read are Living Without and Gluten-Free Living. My personal preference is for gluten-free Living because of its focus on gluten (my particular issue). If you have other food sensitivities such as dairy, I could see that LW might be a better choice. -
ARCHIVED Glutino " Poptarts"
DougE replied to kareng's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Haven't found them in Canada yet either....and that's where the company started. Any other Canadians see them? -
ARCHIVED Amy's Products
DougE replied to smpalesh's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If anyone does try them again, please report back. I have avoided Amy's based on posts from a ways back. No good for me to try again.....I have no discernible symptoms. -
ARCHIVED Question For "symptomless" Celiacs
DougE replied to rami's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I was diagnosed 5 years ago because my iron was low. Otherwise I would have said I have not symptoms. In retrospect, I did get intestinal cramps occasionally, but certainly not every time I ingested gluten. Today after 5 years, it is the same. I recently ate at a restaurant where they came out after I had pretty much completed my plate and told me that... -
ARCHIVED What Is The Deal With Quinoa? Gluten Free Or Not?
DougE replied to livelifelarge24's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I saw a story on this on this very website. http://www.celiac.co...iet/Page1.html. I was wondering if this would raise a discussion. Could have started the thread myself, but I'm not particularly fond of quinoa. -
ARCHIVED Boston Pizza Is Now gluten-free!
DougE replied to Yup's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Really?! Are you aware of anyone having issues with cc at Boston Pizza? I do not always notice symptoms so have to rely on others to tell me if something is a problem..........not that BP was my favourite pizza, but there are other places selling gluten-free pizzas like Pizza Pizza and I often wonder about cross contamination issues at a pizza place. -

Ah yes. Guinness. I plan to request a glass of this on my deathbed. -
ARCHIVED What Is Your Favorite Alcoholic Drink?
DougE replied to user853's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was always a beer drinker before being diagnosed. Other alcoholic beverages just do not give me the same pleasure. So now I have aquired a taste for gluten-free beer. After 5 years, either I have forgotten what real beer tastes like, or gluten-free beer is getting better. I will agree with you that some of it is pretty bad, but I quite like La Messagere... -
ARCHIVED Is Soy Sauce Gluten-free? - Celiac.com
DougE replied to Scott Adams's topic in Publications & Publicity
For me, the concept that fermenation breaks down gluten is still a radical one. It is also the claim of some beer manufacturers. I'm not say it is wrong. I am just not comfortable with it yet and am waiting for more conclusive research. There is an increasing variety of soy sauces that are not made with wheat at all, and one or two of them are no more... -
ARCHIVED Kitchens Of India Ready To Eat Dinners
DougE replied to DougE's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks for the replies. I think I will avoid them. My symptoms are not always obvious so I have to be careful. -
ARCHIVED Kitchens Of India Ready To Eat Dinners
DougE posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi all, Has anyone tried the ready to eat dinners from Open Original Shared Link? There is nothing in the ingredients that causes alarm, but their allergy information says "May Contain Milk, Mustard Seeds, Peanuts, Sesame Seeds, Tree Nuts And Wheat." Ingredients: " Manufactured in a facility that processes milk, peanuts and treenutsWater, Chick Peas... -
ARCHIVED Wheat Free Oats
DougE replied to Ali123's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm curious Ali. Are you in Canada? I have a package of Bob's Red Mill rolled oats and it says "Wheat free" as well. I heard somewhere that in Canada, oats cannot be labelled as gluten-free. Anyway, I intend to try them. -
ARCHIVED Most Gluten-Free-Friendly City
DougE replied to kdonov2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It's not the U.S. but I think my home city of Halifax in Canada has to rank near the top. But the absolutely best Celiac-friendly city I ever visited was Boulder CO. -
ARCHIVED Tax Break For Celiac, Really?
DougE replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
In Canada it is pretty similar. i.e. it's a medical deduction, you need a diagnosis, and you have to subtract the cost of regularly priced items. I have claimed this but only because I had other medical expenses to add to the claim. On its own, it wouldn't be worth it for me. -
ARCHIVED Dining Out In Atlantic Canada
DougE replied to jlrsnyder's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
It's remarkable how many dining options have opened up in the past few years. In Halifax there are now four chains that offer gluten-free pizza: Pizza Delight, Pizzatown, Pizza Pizza and Boston Pizza. In addition, there are a handful of restaruants that offer gluten-free gourmet pizzas. -
ARCHIVED Celiac Pill Holds Promise Of Relief
DougE replied to GFreeMO's topic in Publications & Publicity
Intended to be used in case of accidental ingestion of small amounts of gluetn. It doesn't look like I am much closer to having that occasional glass of Guinness. -
ARCHIVED Certified gluten-free Oats Question
DougE replied to RPM's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I would like to turn this question around. I have Celiac Disease but without telling symptoms. Therefore I am careful about not eating gluten because I know it is damaging to my intestines, but have no way to know if I accidentally consumed it. Does avenin work the same way? Should I be avoiding gluten-free oats just in case? Or is the reaction to gluten... -
You can also buy aluminum foil grilling trays at the supermarket.

ARCHIVED Beer!
DougE replied to Pegleg84's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Actually I like Messagere rousse. Here we get Bards (made in NY state?) which is OK. On a trip to Boulder, I tried New Planet - excellent beer...wish I could get it here. -
ARCHIVED Any Celiac(s) From Canada
DougE replied to Gerri's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Welcome Skittles. It is good to see a post from a fellow Nova Scotian. I am in Cole Harbour. -
I was going to suggest the same thing. I too heard that the highest concentration of people with celiac is in western Ireland. I do not have red hair, but my grandmother whom I suspect had celiac was of Irish descent.

ARCHIVED Found Glutino's Genius Bread In Canada Today!
DougE replied to love2travel's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yeah. In Canada we often have to wait a while to see products come from the U.S. But this case is probably different because Glutino is the supplier. Their head office is in Laval, Quebec.
