  1. Depends on the chocolate. most don't, unless they have cookie crumbs or something in them. But some are a risk because they are processed in plants that also process wheat. I avoid Godiva for that reason. But I've never had a problem with Cadbury's or Hershey's.
  2. Yep. If you are super sensitive, he should clean his face and brush before kissing you. Or eat the same foods. I go through the same thing.
  3. Totally understand. There are several brands of cheap gyms going around right now, Planet Fitness being one of them, that are only $10/month, if you desire to go to one. But I've been known to take time off and use my own weights at home, too.
  4. This is terrifying. How could you treat anyone like that? We've had pollen around us for millenia, too, but you don't see anyone disregarding allergies! What a jerk.   6. Suggestion: if you are anything like me (and many other women around the world) we can get a bit obsessed with scales. If you attend a gym, they most likely have a good quality scale there. Perhaps use theirs, which will limit how often you way yourself, and also give you a more accurate measurement than the cheap ones at the store. Just a thought. Good...
  7. It depends upon what you mean by giving up processed foods. I eat very little, and I don't find it difficult. I recently went off almost all sugar, and all simple carbs. I eat meat and vegetables, essentially. I also eat tofu. So assuming that aren't going to start squeezing your own olive oil... It should be easy. I buy very, very few gluten free processed...
  8. When I trained for half marathons last year, I went through the same thing. I was able to hold it, most of the time. Are you able to just not eat much of anything? Like a banana or a small bowl of oatmeal? I never ate much before I ran, and then had food ready for when I was finished. Just a thought.
  9. As gently as you can, talk to them about it. Let them know what happened -- all grandparents want to know about their grandchildren's health. And then suggest that they might also be getting glutened in their own home. I'm sure it is accidental. But they should be made aware, so she can stay with them and not worry about getting sick.
  10. If you pick up some cheap plasic gloves or baggies, you could just cover your hands when feeding or cleaning out cages. That would be my suggestion.

  12. Oh my goodness -- you poor thing! I'm with eatmeat4good -- report to the doctor ASAP. She's too little to go through all that for very long. You are her mother -- you do what you think is best and what you have to do. What others think won't matter in the long run. Hang in there.

  14. When I first went off, I had diarrhea and severe gas ON gluten. I went off, and for months, struggled between constipation, diarrhea, and gas, and then other weeks, I felt great. It took months for my gut to heal. Now, I rarely have any issues, unless I've eaten gluten. So it may just take time to heal.
  15. I completely agree. I have a major sugar tooth, and really struggle staying away from it. Here's been my recent experience. I LOVE sugar. Anything sweet, and I'm there.     Agreed. I'm going to pick up a few of the books he recommends and read them. Certainly, for the gluten-free community, it's good news. We must still be vigilant, but good to know that going without grains isn't a bad thing.
  17. Woot -- that is a lot of packaged food, which is tough to avoid in the beginning. If you can get away from it, and dairy, it may help. Good luck -- it is tough and frustrating when you are fist starting out, but it does get better.

  19. Ugh. I do know how you feel. One of my biggest fears/frustration has been travel while being gluten-free. I don't know that I've conquered it just yet. But I'm still working on it. For one, there are many foods that are gluten free naturally, and plenty of restaurants who make you food that is gluten free. I eat mainly at Mexican, Thai, and Japanese restaurants...

  25. I second tea and crumpets. I have the iPhone app, "Is that Gluten Free?" and I can count on one hand how many times I've used it. I can count on NO hands how often it was helpful.
