  1. She will probably have to cut out dairy, too. Most of us are dairy intolerant in the beginning. In a few months, she can try dairy again and see how she feels. For some, it takes closer to a year to be able to eat dairy (though for others, they can't have it period). For me, it took about 4 months.
  2. I personally don't have issues (thus far) with foods made on shared equipment, but from what I've read, folks have different levels of sensitivity. You may need to avoid it in the future.
  3. We love Udi's! And no, it's not new. Check around the site and you'll see plenty of us love this bread too. And there is nothing wrong with being jazzed up about a new food. I think Udi's is way better than any other sandwich bread I've ever had. And it's ALL MINE! Hubby can't have it. He can have that gluten-y crap. Udi's is sold online, and you...
  4. I just made this, and it's yummy! The texture is more like a regular bread roll, but the taste is definite biscuit. Make it with buttermilk and it tastes just like a buttermilk biscuit. Did I just say like a regular bread roll?? It really does have that texture!!
  5. A thought, as this is what we've done concerning other issues with kids (because really, the dynamics of your situation play out into other things that come up between families and siblings). I'm assuming your 5 year old has severe symptoms that are uncomfortable? If he has negative consequences, then this should be fairly simple. At home, he has no choice...
  6. I have a reaction within a half hour, usually in less time than that. What you describe definitely sounds like a reaction, but you also had a lot of bread. I'm not sure how a normal body processes that, but if I had that much bread in one sitting, I'd be miserable several hours afterwards. In my mind, it's because bread soaks up liquid and expands in your...
  7. I have more restaurants to report on! Amy's Thai Cuisine, Carlisle, PA I've never had Thai food before, so my first experience was without comparison. My favorite thing about Amy's Thai? They speak English! I usually could care less, as long as I can get my order across...but when you are gluten-free, it complicates things. Very easy to order, they know...
  8. Is there a mailing list or email list to get on board with for this? I'm very interested but cannot make it tonight. Thanks!
  9. Have fun! And do be upfront about your issues. I've only had positive responses thus far, so I encourage you to go forth and order! But do remind your waitperson and any others about your issues if you question ANYTHING. This is an everyday occurrence for them -- serving food. they do not think about it the way we do. Let us know how it goes!
  10. K8ling -- I'm glad this is just a vent! But you did some pretty harsh things, so that is the response you are going to get, right or wrong. It sounds like you ARE doing what you need to do for your health, and that your husband is trying. And I hope you continue to understand that this does put a strain on everyone -- I for one, am thrilled to hear that this...

    ARCHIVED Taco Bell

Thanks for the updated Wendy's list!
  12. masterjen -- I didn't find anything online that didn't sound terrifying, so just try to be calm and wait for the results. Though I know that is WAY easier said than done. I would be beside myself in your shoes. I hope and pray it is no big deal.
  13. have you checked in with your doctor to rule out any thyroid or other issues? that would be my first suggestion. SOMETHING isn't right, and I am sure that is very frustrating. I can't think of anything to recommend until you can rule out some other illness or allergy.
  14. weluvgators -- I do know how children eat and having been through that age...I completely understand the need to segregate. I made tater tots last night and my now 10 and 13 year old stepsons dug in with their fingers. No big deal, right? I made a separate plate for myself, as I could SEE the bread crumbs from their hot dog buns on their hands as they grabbed...
  15. I fall in with the "not-gluten-free-gluten-free household!" I am gluten free, and my husband has his gluteny cubbies in the cube-shaped shelving we share, but everything I cook and bake is gluten free. I'll be damned if I am going to cook something I can't eat! But that being said, I also work hard to make sure whatever I make tastes really, really good...
  16. Ooo, I feel her pain. Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk, I recommend Blue Diamond. It is AWESOME on cereal. Also, roughage can cause some major flatulence, and for some, corn. I JUST added back dairy, and I feel pretty good on it, but it took some time. You might want to start playing with her diet, too. The body can get used to certain foods and then even...
  17. I honestly couldn't tell you, but they make my eyes burn too! You may want to investigate some other brands that offer a similar, much better product than companies like Mary Kay. My favorites so far -- that don't bother my skin -- are Too Faced and Urban Decay's primer potion in Sin. I haven't had an issue with them. If you go some place like UTLA or Sephora...
  18. Oh, that totally stinks. I'm so sorry she and you had to go through that. Wegman's is usually really good for the gluten free community. Hopefully they will be more careful in the future.
  19. Fear not -- you'll find many vegetarians on here who can give you some much needed suggestions. Take it one step at a time, and try not to frustrate yourself. You'll get there.
  20. kenlove -- good thoughts. I'm kind of spoiled, as our local Thai restaurant is owned by caucasian Americans...so the language barrier is not an issue!
  21. HA! I wanted to start a new thread on this, as all the ones I found were old. but glad to see someone else did. I just had pad thai and thai slaw, and I LOVED it! so I was curious as well if others found thai safe. Nice to know there's another restaurant option out there for us!
  22. If you do a search on here, you'll find the long debate over McD's fries. They are gluten free, and I've never had a problem -- and I seem to have a problem with most questionable things!
  23. Sorry to hear that. I haven't had any problems at either place. But it's always a risk of CC. Feel better soon!
  24. Eva-girl -- you just haven't tried the good stuff! Udi's bread rocks! Okay, crappy experiences while gluten free: Pamela's brownie mix. Yuck! Homemade is so much better. GFP white bread -- much prefer Pamela's bread mix Kinnikinnick's K-toos, I had the vanilla cookie -- can we say, round ick of chemicals?! Yuck. Top three: Arctic Zero Frozen...
  25. Okay, here's my best pop psychology -- keep in mind I have a degree in it, but that's not saying much, some days! IMHO, this change in lifestyle is not drastically different from any other change demanded by another illness. Yes, it is a bit more difficult in some ways than others. But change is change. You are asking your entire family to understand...
