  1. Way to go! You definitely did the right thing. It would have done nothing to assuage your frustration and anger and only given him the right to blame you. Why give him that power? Regardless of his poor treatment, you are taking control of your life and finding the answers he was too incompetent to discover. Take pride in that, and know that one day he...
  2. HA! Stef, you are on my wavelength -- I just was talking about trying Thai. I'm so going to do that at Amy's Thai. ZPizza in the Target/Wegman's plaza is also good for gluten free pizza. I don't think the crust is as good as Jo-Jo's in Mechanicsburg, but their toppings are amazing, so I suffer through. They are also very gluten conscious and do a good...
  3. Rice cooker is your friend. $15 at Wallyworld and you are on your way.
  4. I have extreme reactions to sugar free things. Sugar alcohols go right through me. So that may have played a part too.
  5. My guess would be it's the black beans. I've never had an issue with Pamela's anything, though I will say: there are MUCH better brownie recipes than mixes. I make a rockin' recipe that is easy and everyone loves.
  6. If you do a search on here, you'll find a number of threads on this topic. It's a tough call. I'm self-diagnosed, do not have any biological children, and am an adult. I do not need a doctor's excuse for anything, and my dr's are perfectly content to put gluten-free on my chart. I don't have the money nor the inclination to be sick for 3 months. So that is...

    ARCHIVED Day 1

It will get easier! Food eventually takes on a new meaning as you discover new things. I'm currently on a bland diet from being glutened over the weekend. (YUCK!) I actually crave my rice cake with almond butter (I can't do peanut butter) and honey, my raw carrots, and my larabar! Go figure! But I LOVE them. Hang in there and don't lose faith. Good luck...
  8. Hey Mamaw -- we have 'em in eastern PA, too. Pennsylvania Dutch thing? That's what my grandmother always said. A little Lebanon bologna, fried up and ate the nuggets before they came out of the pan and onto the bread.
  9. It's going to depend on the person. My husband has no problem eating meals I make or letting me rule the kitchen, but he has his separate area where he has his gluten items, and he eats them regularly. It's not worth arguing over to me, as I can't blame him. So I just keep my stuff separate.
  10. I'll third...fourth...fifth (whatever number I am) what everyone else said. You will build muscle again. Just make sure you do plenty of cardio if you want your muscles to show -- to shed body fat, that's the best way, not to mention, you'll feel better and more capable when you work on building muscles.
  11. Thanks everybody! I appreciate the support and sympathy...sometimes that is all you can do. It's hard when you don't have anyone close to you who understand. I've got a great family, but they just don't "get it." I'll stick to the bland stuff for a few weeks...so far, so good. Glad for the tip on the veggies!
  12. I ordered what I had before at a different restaurant, and I did fine. California roll with mackerel substituted for crab (very yummy), two pieces of tuna nigiri, and a tuna roll -- just tuna, rice and seaweed. I bought my own La Choy soy sauce across the street before going in. And we had mochi red bean ice cream at the end. Same things I've had before,...
  13. Yes, and I've heard it is amazing. The only downside, from what I understand, is that it doesn't keep long, so you'd have to use it up quick. But I'd love to try it sometime.
  14. How about almond milk and soy butter? Or whatever butter substitute you prefer.
  15. I definitely feel better on only rice and carbs, so thank you whoever suggested getting away from the raw veggies. Although, I fear what will happen on steady diet of carbs! But if it helps at work, I can deal with the stink at home. What an embarrassing thing, but where else can I ask?
  16. Believe it or not, I get it for less than 5 bucks a loaf around here. Online is 6/loaf! Yikes!
  17. I'm a fan of Schar corn and rice pasta (mixed) and Tinkyada Rice pasta. Those are my favorites so far. Let me know how you make out on the vermicelli. The last time I made it, it got gooey, but I find bigger, thicker pasta shapes -- penne, rigatoni, etc -- turn out just fine.
  18. Not to sound rude, but how do you do that? Our server could barely understand what we ordered, much less converse with us. I'm not being mean -- he just didn't do well with English. So how are you able to get that across?
  19. Actually, I totally relate. I was a starvation girl growing up (not healthy at all) and I found myself today...dreading eating. And you are talking to someone who now loves food! But I'm also training for a half marathon, so not eating isn't an option -- not that I'd advocate it, but I do understand. I did have a salad for lunch, and now I am even stinkier...
  20. Alright gang -- I got glutened. At a sushi restaurant, even using my own soy sauce...but it must have been prepped by someone who had gluten on their hands or on their workspace. Only thing I can figure out. Anyway, my symptoms involve potty issues and some of the nastiest gas I've ever experienced. It's embarrassing, and unfortunately, I work with people...
  21. Ooo, K8ling -- do a search on here. I can't remember who -- I think her username is purple?? -- but she directed me to a website/blog with an amazing brownie recipe. Better than anything I ever made with gluten (beats any box mix). It's awesome and I take it anywhere and people rave. If you don't find it, PM me and I'll look it up when I get home (at work...
  22. Gluten must have been out on the hunt this weekend, as I too was glutened. Ugh. So I'm miserable, and I will be for three weeks! Rant moment: THAT IS SO UNFAIR! I'M SO DARN CAREFUL IT'S NOT FUNNY, AND IT STILL GOT ME!! Okay, I'm done now. But I am glad others are feeling good -- we all have our turn, and I guess for some of us, it's this week. So y'all enjoy...
  23. According to Wiki: "NattĹŤ can be an acquired taste because of its powerful smell, strong flavor, and slippery texture." I don't know about anyone else, but I can't wait to try it!
  24. I'm nowhere near where you live, but I do know something about eating cheaply. In fact, my best friend is staying with me for a few weeks while she is in training near my home, and she's teaching me even more! Cut coupons, and buy things when they are on sale with coupons. Eat whole foods and avoid processed (though I too can't resist Udi's bread!) Choose...
