    ARCHIVED Giardia?

You never came back and said whether it was giardia. What was your final verdict? Here's our story. We ate dinner at a friend's home in the country. Their water was from a well. The next week we had two adults and three children piled in the bed together with bowls. It was the only way my husband and I could care for the kids because we were so ill. At...
  2. Those under your arms are probably staying irritated either by sweat and heat or by the use of deodorant products. Mine get miserable there. Heat tends to make the itch more intense. Try bathing in a bath of lukewarm water with either a little baking soda or some epsom salts or my favorite, Shaklee's Basic H. You may want to try using some powder under your...
  3. Stop it, stop it, stop it!!!!! She said SOUTHERN biscuits, folks. That means no sugar, no butter until after they are cooked, and --please--biscuits here mean buttermilk. So here goes. These turn out quite well. I use my usual gluten-free mix like I am baking bread. I add little rice flour to make sure the bean flavor does not come through if my mix has...
  4. With my daughter it is the celiac disease. She stays away from gluten, she doesn't wet the bed. She gets glutened and she is tee-teeing all the time and wetting the bed at night.
  5. There are several out in the posts. Try doing a search for bread recipes or bread machines. If you don't find them readily, message me and I'll try and find some of mine. I mill my own stuff, so sometimes it is harder to adjust for someone who is looking for a ready mix.
  6. Because of the processes used in plants handling multiple grains, you are always better off to choose a mfr who has a corn only facility. Dixie Lily is available in the south. Try Kroger if your local grocer does not carry it.
  7. Plan to play with whatever machine you purchase. So many things can effect the loaf...moisture level in the room, the moisture content of the flours, which flours you use, etc. I have been baking my own bread for years, even before going gluten-free. Try doing a search for posts on bread machines. There are several including some of mine which list possible...
  8. You can also make your own. Do a quick search of this site for Matzoh bread or communion wafer recipes.
  9. I am glad to see that this post is still helping folks. I think the timing was good for it to be reopened. With all that has been going on in my life this last week or so, I needed to see my own post again! It is also getting on toward winter when our pain levels will begin to rise. That can cause us to forget how well we did during the summer months. Thanks...
  10. Thanks for the support and encouragement. I knew you guys had been there and I was so frustrated that I had to vent somewhere. The evil eyes from that cats were the last straw. If I had not been so tired it would have been funny. Sorry to take it out on you! Charles surgery went well. It took about four hours which is long for any surgery nowadays. They...
  11. My husband has surgery scheduled for this morning. I have to have him at the hospital around 7:30. It is now 4am and I am still not sleeping. I don't have the luxury of falling asleep at 5 and resting until noon today. This day I have to have my brain and body working yet I cannot fall asleep. I lay down and my legs ache, my brain runs from one thing to another...
  12. I have not checked to see if it is gluten-free because I could not afford it. A friend of mine had it work wonders with her fibromyalgia.
  13. I have used a WhisperMill for years (before and after gluten-free...just different machines). I buy bulk from a reputable vendor and not from a store where I have to dig in the bins. I keep a coffee/spice grinder around for stuff like flax that is oily and would gum up a large grain mill. I have not only not had problems, but have had great success. I recommend...
  14. Thanks for the info and links. Those are always helpful.
  15. You will have to read the labels every time with Target. Their standard line is that they change suppliers regularly so they cannot guarantee from one delivery to the next that an item's ingredients will remain the same. They do carry some national brands that are gluten-free for prices that are comparable to other stores.
  16. It is my understanding that Bob's Red Mills will only label as gluten-free items that are handled in their gluten-free facility. They did not even want to sell me a spice item because it was handled in their regular facility. Could you be reacting for some other reason?
  17. I have both FMS and GI...and my hands and feet swell something fierce, especially during the summer months. My shoes are loose in the morning yet leave whelps by evening and I am just now getting to where I can wear my wedding band again after several years.
  18. those symptoms are very familiar to me.
  19. According to my doc, soy in celiac disease patients can also be a contributing factor in neurological symptoms. I know mine get much worse when I ingest soy.
  20. I have just used a "normal" bread machine. Neither of those I have used had any special settings yet my bread comes out quite nicely. My favorite is my older Regal that is no longer mfrd...and the kids have accidentally thrown the paddle in the trash. How frustrating.
  21. Many hams have additives, especially if you get the ones with honey or brown sugar in them. Your best bet is to verify with the "manufacturer" whether their meat has additives that contain gluten. A quick phone call by you or your butcher should give you the info you need.
  22. You appear to be a Christian. That in itself means only one thing...pray and decide what you do based on what direction God leads. We have homeschooled for 15 years now. It has been a wonderful experience that I would not trade for anything. We knew from day one, however, that it was what our family was called to do. Pray. Research. Do what you are called...
  23. I use that brand regularly with no problem. Sorry I cannot help with the recipe. I suggest going to a recipe site and adjusting as necessary. Oh yes, double check and be sure that restaurant is not dusting their table with regular flour when making their tortillas.
  24. As with most generics, it varies by mfr. Last I checked, Malinckrodt's version was gluten-free. I keep it around for those really tough days. Since Darvocet can be habit forming and makes most people whacky, you may want to consider discussing ultram/ultracet with your doc. I use a generic ultram and take my own generic "tylenol" sice that is all ultracet...
  25. I began seeing a difference fairly quickly, but it took several weeks for me to really get energy again. Watch the folic acid levels if you begin to have insomnia. I had to lower mine because I would take a shot and be up for a couple of days. Boy did I ever get a lot accomplished over those couple of days, though!
