  1. Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. Life has been a little hectic this week. I began with extreme fatigue and memory loss. Looking back, I had female problems for years that we did not realize were associated with celiac disease. Later came the IBS symptoms, headaches, and neurological problems. I don't remember what triggered the osteo check...

    ARCHIVED Dh

Yeah, mine keep breaking out in the same spots as well. They will scab over, heal, then break out again. We got cross contaminated at McD's yesterday and are breaking out again. I always know it is DH and not acne when it starts in my ears and hairline (not to mention that it starts to itch).
  3. One more suggestion...if they have a computer available to them, you might want to consider creating a celiac disease with a couple of food lists and some general information on it. It would be easy to access and provide them with ready information. I provided a similar celiac disease to my gi doc and it is greatly appreciated. If you include links to a couple...
  4. Sorry it took a while to get back on the board. Life got a little hectic. Suggestions would be fine. I did not really mean everything in my comment, only a "short list" of generally available and easy options. For instance, if they planned to serve chicken, mashed potatoes, and green beans for a meal, I would provide a list of acceptable brands or alternatives...
  5. Oh Laurelfla, I cried when I had to stop teaching. First I went from teaching math and computer science at the local college to just teaching classes at CompUSA where the courses are pretty well scripted. The brain fog just was no longer working with me, especially in the math classes. Then I finally had to give even the CompUSA courses up. I could no longer...
  6. It is the oddest sense of floating through the day unsure how to get the thoughts to be coherent...much less manage to get them from the brain to the mouth. It is as though you want to function but cannot seem to quite get there. You forget stuff between the time the thought went through your mind and when you carry it out. Some days there is such a delay...
  7. We used the Keep It Simple strategy. I copied a quality restaurant card and used it as a jumping off point. I encouraged them to do a couple of things...generally avoid prepared or processed foods by preparing simple and unadulterated meats, veggies, and fruits. I requested that they keep items such as fresh fruits and gluten-free yogurts (I supplied appropriate...
  8. Hey, we have all been there. I keep a gluten-free house and went to pick up a can of soup off the shelf today and almost got had. My daughter had picked up several cans off the store shelf and one had apparently been misplaced into a spot with gluten-free ones so it got picked up with the ones that are gluten-free. She did not catch it and I almost didn't...
  9. If hose and girdles are a problem also, you may get a reaction triggered from the heat being held in. That is a real problem for me. I have to have 100% cotton underclothing or the entire area covered gets a build-up of heat and triggers a DH oubreak. It does not seem to be as much of a problem on my lower legs, so I wear longer skirts and use thigh high...

    ARCHIVED Dh

Most of us with DH did not stop itching quickly. My outbreaks began to come further and further apart, but even small glutenings can mean weeks of itching and nasty looking skin. My daughter does not break out as quickly nor do hers last as long the longer she is gluten-free, but then she did not let hers go for more than 40 years without getting it diagnosed...
  11. This has been one of the last things to stabilize for me. The osteopenia took well over a year to begin stop going in the wrong direction. Now I am seeing the numbers slowly get better, just in teeny tiny steps. My alkaline phtase numbers have been even slower to change, but are finally moving in the correct direction.
  12. Drop a copy my way, please. Thanks in advance. cdford@integrity.com
  13. Unless you have change in the envelope, you don't have to stick the entire thing...just enough to keep the paperwork in it. I use my little fingers because I am less likely to contaminate any food if I forget to wash as soon as I get somewhere. Another possibility is to buy a sheet of stickers and use them as envelope seals. You can get the expensive ones...
  14. If you purchase items in the deli, be sure to ask them to clean the machines to limit cross contamination. Several of Kroger's Private selection deli meats are gluten-free. We like the roast beef, the roast turkey, and my husband gives in to the honey ham. They can also be purchased in small containers in the meat department.
  15. Not all generic phenergans are gluten-free, but the one mfrd by Watson is. Have your pharmacist fill your script using that specific brand and you will be fine. I am supersensitive and have to keep a supply handy.
  16. You did not mention the brand of horseradish so it would be difficult to be certain. I would check that artificial mustard to be sure. Some of us also react to vinegars. It varies from person to person.
  17. Even though both my boys are symptomatic (one significantly so), their tests came back negative. I strongly suspect that will change over time.
  18. Sundance: Our asthma and sinus problems went haywire the first month we were gluten-free, then they stabilized slowly. They are also some of the first symptoms if we get glutened. I think it is just that this is our bodies' way of trying to deal with the immune system reaction.
  19. My incontinence problems are stable as long as I am gluten-free. If glutened even a little, bring on the Poise pads. I also wake up a lot at night to go after an incident. My teenage daughter wets the bed if she is glutened, but is fine if gluten-free. It is an odd side effect, huh?
  20. Yes! After a significant accidental glutening last year, I went for my annual checkup. I wound up having to go in once a month for several months for additional breast checks because I was so tender they were concerned. Once my body settled back down again (it took a while because the incident was pretty bad), so did the tenderness.
  21. We use All Free and Clear. I hate to say it and I don't know quite why, but laundry detergent is an issue for us.
  22. Broccoli drowned in cheese. It got to the point one time that my neighbor was buying extra bags to keep in the freezer for when I ran out and was ranting for another whole bag of broccoli. I ate it by the 32 oz bags!
  23. Yeah! Doesn't it feel good to know you are gettting better?
  24. Since you are in and out of the kitchen all day, you may also be taking in some of the gluten just breathing the dust of the flours and spices. I react strongly anytime the stuff gets into my mucous membranes. I do not use the dapsone, but I take warm baths with Shaklee's Basic H as a bubble bath. I also will add 1 tsp clorox to the water to kill any...
  25. Usually salt is okay. Both Kroger and Morton are gluten-free. Be a little wary of the peppers since they can sometimes have gluten items added.
