  1. I have looked all over for info with pictures. Glad you found them. The particular problem I have is not shown, but maybe it will help for others.
  2. One of my lists says yes for all Dove ice creams except for the crunchy cookie one. The mfr says they will list wheat in ingredients if it is there and that they do not use oats or barley in candy items.
  3. Scratchy throat, splitting tongue, sinuses whacked, bellyache, headache, V and D, low grade fever, muscles ache...oh about two weeks worth each time now with a small accidental glutening like some cross contamination. The one last year that got me was a major incident that took eight months and multiple hospital trips to get over. I hope never to get hit...
  4. It is a common problem. It does get better with time and the longer you are gluten-free the better it gets. Unfortunately, the old addage of diet and exercise applies here even more for us. The first inkling of gluten and we swell up like balloons again.
  5. I finally gave up even trying the gluten-free stuff. The one thing I found that I really liked were the Ener-G pretzels...then I found out I couldn't have soy. I have thrown away too many items. I just make my own now. If I can ever get the crackers down pat, we will want for nothing (well, most days anyway). I just cannot seem to get the texture right on...
  6. Ah, Carolyn, to be in your shoes... Our medical expenses were low (for us) last year at only$8,500+/-. The year before, our out of pocket was over $27,000! So much for that maximum on our insurance. It is the stuff they don't apply to it that eats us alive.
  7. My daughter was 11 when she was diagnosed. We dealt with an extended period of rebellion from her over the dx. After she decided that it was worth the effort not to sabatage her diet, she is doing fantastic. It is a tough time for them but their life will be so much better in the long run. It is just tough convincing them of that at first.
  8. Check the logo for the manufacturer. If it looks like a rectangle with rounded corners and a comma hanging off the right side, it is mfrd by Perrigo labs and is gluten-free. If not, use a different kind because you cannot be certain unless you contact that particular mfrr.
  9. There are several good ones out there according to your budget. Do a search on this site for some of the posts over the last several months and you will find a lot of discussion. I have an older Regal and a newer Toastmaster TBR15 1.5 lb machine. Both work well and are simple. I prefer simple and easy to expensive and requiring lots of input. Others will...
  10. Gluten sensitivity is also a precurser to celiac disease. Until the damage is verifiable in the gut, celiac disease is not formally diagnosed. They call it gluten sensitivity. If a gluten sensitive person continues to take in gluten, they can eventually also have the gut damage that qualifies for the celiac disease diagnosis.
  11. Yes, the DH/celiac disease can cause anal itching. Yes, hemorrhoids are a possibility. There is also a far more "normal person" possibility that is pretty common in the south. If you have children who play outside or if you do much gardening, you might have pinworms. These get into your system and come out to lay their eggs just outside the anal opening...
  12. I read an article recently about how the military was finding a number of celiacs because they reacted so strongly out in the field eating the MREs. Apparently it is a big enough problem that they are now working out a specific procedure for members who have celiac disease or have family members with celiac disease. If I remember correctly, they were looking...
  13. I just got audited and they did not give me any grief. I write the cost of the "regular" item next to the cost of the gluten-free item on my receipt and take the difference off on my taxes.
  14. When exposed to even a small amount of gluten, I lose hair by the clumps. Being gluten free (even hair and lotion products) helps and my hair is finally beginning to look pretty good.
  15. Where do you get psyllium husks that are not already flavored?

    ARCHIVED Eating

Forget the burgers...I drool over the thought of a Chic-fil-a sandwich and fries. I never was a junk food junkie, but every now and then it would sure be nice. At least I can run through McD and get a chocolate sundae and fries!
  17. I found Promise on one of my lists as gluten-free.
  18. And yes, celiac3270, everything is impacted by the rain here lately.
  19. It seems to be better today. I keep my spyware and virus protection up to date. I actually use multiple spyware programs because one will not catch everything. I used to be a tech writer and learned quickly to recognize the general symptoms and fix any viruses, etc. quickly. I could not afford to lose hundreds of pages of a system manual because I wasn't...
  20. I hate to give up on the board today because I might miss some of those messages since my last visit, but it is soooo slow. Even with DSL it is taking up to thirty seconds to change screens. I have run both my spyware programs so that is not the problem. My DSL modem is not blinking like crazy on the busy button. Anything else I might try?
  21. I did not see my GI but about once a year until I got significantly glutened last year. After that, I have seen her regularly to follow up on some on-going problems related to the celiac disease. Hopefully I will get back to the once or twice a year follow up again one of these days. I would not worry about it unless I had specific GI symptoms that needed...

    ARCHIVED Sleep Problems

Definitely. That is why there is a section of this board for sleep problems. Some of us use stretching exercises or warm baths to help. Others require medication. You might want to do a search or look through some of the old posts about this. There is a lot of info on different approaches to the problem.
  23. Different people can react to different things even when gluten is not an issue. I can buy gluten-free pickles and gluten-free ketchup, but when I eat them my tongue is going to split every time. It is just my system.
  24. I don't have a clue about the sch. but my extended family has lots of the more usual symptoms. It is my understanding that any of the autoimmune disorders can be worsened when you trigger the celiac disease by continuing to eat gluten. It keeps the immune system wound up. My arthritic condition is much worse after being glutened, and that is the only time...
  25. Adding gluten to juice is about as stupid as using anything other than potato starch to thicken potato soup. No more Tropicana Twisters in my fridge. My spouse and my daughter will not be pleased.
