  1. Most of Tones' and Spice Island single spices are as well. I use them and Kroger brand regularly.
  2. I am 46 and have been dealing with it for several years. I was told to take calcium supplements with magnesium and vitamin d in them. I would do the exercises but that is a problem from a wheelchair. After a year and a half of being gluten-free, my numbers have begun to climb again. Hopefully yours will as well. I am hoping to avoid yet another medication...

Last I heard we were still years away from having anything marketable. I saw something on it not long ago, but cannot remember just where.
  4. I reached a point where I could no longer even be active in my local church because I reacted to all the different chemicals on bodies and in the cleaning stuff. It was awful. My family members had to go on the back porch to put on their deodorant! Since going gluten-free, it has gotten much better. We are back to putting on our deodorant in the bathroom...
  5. Our endocrinologist says it is almost like the body is addicted to the gluten and reacts much the same way as an alchoholic when they stop drinking. It is a true withdrawal process. It does go away and life gets much better. The amount of time it takes varies from person to person.

Those epsom salt baths are a life saver not only with the itch but also with muscle aches and spasms. Our dermatologist and allergist had us put a tsp of clorox in our baths to cut the bacteria in the sores and help them heal. It also helped keep the redness down.
  7. Sometimes we grill up a whole lot of boneless chicken breast and then make chicken salad out of them. Put them in a small cooler or thermos type bowl and it works well. Add a side of carrots or broccoli and ranch dressing or a small salad if you'd like. Jenn's school allowed her to keep an area in the kitchen with her condiments so she did not have to...
  8. I cannot handle the stronger flavor of the bean flours, but they add so much to the texture of baked goods that I add a 1/2 cup to my usual mix just for that purpose. It does not overwhelm the flavor but really helps the texture. Some rice flours are milled finer than others. My mill at home does a better job than most I can buy.
  9. Any chance the tablet had a gluten binder in it? Also, if your B vitamin has a lot of folic acid, it may keep you wired for a while. I get circles around my eyes if I take too much folic acid because I don't sleep for days afterward. I do get lots accomplished, however.
  10. I have never come across a problem with milk, but I distinctly remember being shocked when I first began researching that in some small areas of the country there was a problem with certain milks. Seems like it was in the midwest somewhere. I wish I could remember the details. It had something to do with the processing facilities in that area.
  11. If your FM requires more than OTC meds, there are generic Ultram tablets out there and they work wonderfully, especially when taken with a Tylenol product. For some reason the two work better together than either separately. Ultram is also not heavily habit forming like some of the other pain meds. I can take one a day or ten a day according to my needs.
  12. By the way, we need to remember that no one source is going to provide all the info we need. I keep several lists on my computer at home and each one is different.
  13. CSA will only include items provided to them by the mfr. Many grocers (like Kroger) are afraid of the possible legal consequences if someone makes an error and prefer to control the information through their own departments. It is my understanding that we can fax/mail our updated messages to CSA and they will contact the mfrs so that the info can show up...
  14. It took a long time for mine to begin to get better. When it did, it really did. I was at the point of being wheelchair bound and often bedbound. It just took more than two years gluten-free for the nerves to heal up enough to begin to see much change. I am now walking with a walker again (and typing on this computer again...two handed most days). I still...
  15. I have done it though I usually just use the mixer if I am going to bake in the oven. You have to add a little extra flour mix or expect to roll in a little more after the fact to get the right consistency. It will take a little experimentation to get the right combination for your needs.
  16. Several of Malt-o-meal's items used to be okay. They are in the process of making major changes to their line and adding gluten to several recipes. With the puffed rice, you need to check and see if it has barley malt. That is the ingredient that kicks almost all of the puffed rice and corn flake cereals off our lists.
  17. Encourage him to get tested. Learn all you can. Your attitude will play a big role in how he deals with the disease. Never get frustrated or embarassed when he has to request special treatment at restaurants or friends' homes. Be sure your family learns about it as well so that they understand the needs. If it does turn out that you get married, plan your...
  18. These looked great!
  19. Many GIs will not diagnose celiac disease without a positive biopsy. I had one who looked at the blood work and did not see a reason to put me through the biopsy because I was already gluten-free and doing so well. An insurance change forced me to another one who was adamant that it could not be called celiac disease because I had not had a positive biopsy...
  20. Great advice Matilda. That is one of the most common errors people make when baking bread...machine or oven.
  21. Check with the mfr. Many of them are transitioning to a newer method of sealing their bags that does not utilize gluten based glues. Tetley is okay for sure. Some of the Celestian Seasonings are as well. They clearly list gluten-free on their label if they are. I don't know anything about the brand you mentioned. I had never heard of it.
  22. I also did the e-mail thing. I used to shop at Walmart regularly. Now I stop in every now and then to buy Progresso soups we can have. They are soooo much cheaper there. It will be nice to be able to pick up items in the grocery area again. Now if we can get them to stop injecting their meats with a solution, we will be in good shape. Oh yes, and they really...
  23. Be a little wary of the Great Value items at Walmart. I have called them several times and have been given a similar statement on a couple of occasions that they change vendors regularly and cannot guarantee that what is gluten-free this week will still be gluten-free with the next shipment. Target makes a similar statement about theirs. Walmart has the best...

I did not realized about the iodine until recently. I have stopped it completely and it does seem to make a difference. Also realize that once glutened, the DH spots can come and go for months, long after any celiac disease symptoms have left.
  25. I have used the csa book for a couple of years now. I like the three ring binder format and the size of the white space on the pages allows me to add my own comments and items I have researched separately. I add tabs in the back to track when I have contacted manufacturers and another for drug lists and numbers for pharmaceutical companies. If you have...
