ARCHIVED Stool
Dixiebell replied to Kryptonite's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welcome Kryptonite! Did you tell you Dr. about the change in your stool? I would recommend that you do that if you haven't. If he/she does not seen concerned about it, you might need to see another Dr. for a second opinion. I believe it has to do with the biliary system (the drainage system of the gallbladder, liver, and pancreas) something to get checked... -
Welcome EvelynE! I'm glad to know you were able to find out about your gluten intolerance and begin to feel better. I personally have not had the burning mouth but I'm sure you will find others here that have. Stick around and feel free to ask a lot of questions.

ARCHIVED Can Anyone Help?
Dixiebell replied to ClairG's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome ClairG ! Have you had your throid checked? It might be worth it to do that also. False negatives for celiac are all to common. So I've cut out gluten, and since have not had a single digestive cramp episode, have more energy and I haven't had another patch of p%$#@# spots. It sounds to me that maybe you have found out on your own you cannot... -
ARCHIVED Healing After New Diagnosis
Dixiebell replied to jennifer47's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welcome katharos! Have you had your vitamin levels checked recently? If not, you should do that to see where you stand on those and get a better idea of how much you need daily. My personal vit D is 3,000iu daily along with the B complex, fish oil and a multi. Congrats on being able to stop anti depressants! I was able to do that too. The vitamins plus... -
ARCHIVED A Big Surprise Of My Life!
Dixiebell replied to Simona19's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think one reason that people like to think that stuff like this only exists in our mind because to admit that it's real would be admitting it could happen to them. Well said lynnelise. This is so true. -
ARCHIVED Lunch Meat- Roast Beef?
Dixiebell replied to Kim27's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Kraft is good at labeling ingredients in their products as is con agra and hormel. There might be others too. I believe all Boar's head is gluten-free but the slicers at some stores may be CC by other products. I have found pre-packaged applegate (we buy the turkey) at whole foods. The best thing to do is look on the company's websites, usually in the FAQ... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Intolerant 4 1/2 Yr. Old
Dixiebell replied to mom2kae's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have heard of a 'honeymoon' period in which the person thinks they have been 'healed' from celiac and go back to gluten because they seem to have no symptoms. -
ARCHIVED Joint Pain (Rheumatoid Type) As The Main Symptom?
Dixiebell replied to lizdehart's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome lizdehart! Yes, you need to be eating a regular gluten filled diet for several weeks before testing to get the best possible results. I also had the hand pain and it possibly could have been that my vit D was extremely low but since going gluten free and taking my vitamins, I feel like a new person. My Dr. told me all my pains and depression... -
ARCHIVED What About Microwaves And Ovens?
Dixiebell replied to domesticactivist's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My microwave has always been clean, if food splatters, clean it out. My granny was always a clean freak and I spent summers with her. I never really had seen a dirty microwave, or I guess paid attention, until my partime job. It would make me so mad that someone would leave it in that condition and I could just imagine what their home or microwave looked... -
ARCHIVED Trying To Determine Celiac
Dixiebell replied to wow89's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think maybe I had a 'nervous stomach' where if I got mad or upset I would sometimes get D. I went gluten-free because of my son who was having stomach and stool problems along with headaches and some skin issues. Our tests were negative, but after reading so much here I decided that we would go gluten-free to see if it helped. It did. I had depression,... -
ARCHIVED Had Enough
Dixiebell replied to smile's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi smile! I too had very low vit D (16.7, range 32.0-100.0) and all other levels were fine. My Dr. gave me an Rx of 50,000u to take once a week for two months and then to take 3,000 - 5,000iu a day. Also I added 1,000iu of fish oil a day and a vit B-complex. It took a a few months for the fatigue and almost unbearable body pains to go away but it did. I... -
My son was having some GI symptoms (stomach aches and pains, severe constipation, odd looking stools) headaches, leg and foot pain, several different types of skin reactions (small blisters, hives, red face and ears, dry patches and started reacting to latex). I don't know if this is related at all to celiac or gluten intolerance or just hereditary, but his...

ARCHIVED Neurologist Wants Me Gluten Free As A "test"
Dixiebell replied to Ellette's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome Ellette! It sounds like your Dr might be on to something. If you do want testing done please do it before being gluten free any longer. If you are eating gluten-free it will most likely skew the tests and you could get a false negative. After all the tests are done, even before you get results, you can go gluten-free. Tests to ask for: TTG... -
ARCHIVED Trying To Determine Celiac
Dixiebell replied to wow89's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome wow89! Yes, you need to keep eating gluten until all of your testing is done. Your primary care Dr should be able to run these tests: TTG Igg AND Iga Antigliadin Igg AND Iga Endomysial Antibodies Total Iga Serum Deamidated Gliadin Peptide IgA and IgG (this is a newer test) -
ARCHIVED New In Beijing And To Gluten Free! Please Help!
Dixiebell replied to kckilpat's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
--one box of 365 Gluten Free Sandwich Bread Mix (Whole Foods) --the stuff the box tells you to use---warm water, butter, eggs, enclosed yeast packet The Directions. --prepare dough according to the instructions on the box for oven-method. (I always use hot water with gluten-free baking. The boxes say luke-warm, but I use hot.) --spray a loaf... -
ARCHIVED Oh Man, I Think I Am Corn Intolerant
Dixiebell replied to kdonov2's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi DanielleJ! Welcome! Just a thought- You might want to test plain corn to see if you react to it. The sopes could be cross- contaiminated in the processing plant. And it is possible that the oats are CC as well. Try cutting them both out for a few days and then add only one back at a time to see if you react to it. -
ARCHIVED Sick Ten Year Old
Dixiebell replied to lpnnurse's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome lpnnurse! With your daughter being gluten free or gluten light, that could cause a false positive on the blood tests. She really needs to eat more gluten for at least two months, maybe longer, before any testing. Maybe her Dr. could diagnose her based on her symptoms and her positive reaction to eating gluten free. Also you should get her vitamin... -

ARCHIVED Biopsy Results In...
Dixiebell replied to CrazyforCandles's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Did they biopsy the lesion or the skin next to the lesion? Mucha Habermann Disease is autoimmune and autoimmune diseases usually travel together. I don't think you not having DH rules out celiac or gluten intolerance. I am assuming you have had the celiac blood tests and/or biopsy and they were negative? My next step would be to try the gluten-free lifestyle... -
ARCHIVED Hope I Don't Offend Any Of You Southerners, But....
Dixiebell replied to Monklady123's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am a G.R.I.T (girl raised in the south). I have eaten grits with butter and sugar (more when I was younger) or with salt, pepper and butter or with eggs, they are good with bacon bits in them too. Cheese grits are good and 'shrimp and grits' is really good. We have also been known to have grits as a side to fried fish. -
ARCHIVED Crazy Hunger!
Dixiebell replied to brett31em's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
CeliaCupCake I have heard that quitting smoking can be a possible 'trigger' of celiac for some people. I believe the weight gain and hunger is because your body has been starving for nutrients and holds on to what ever it can to survive. 1000 calorie diet is not good for you, I think someone posted recently that kind of diet can cause you to gain weight... -
ARCHIVED Furious With Stupid Doctors
Dixiebell replied to MarsupialMama's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Maybe you can get the Dr. and nutrtionist some updated information on the gluten-free diet. Sounds like maybe they have some very outdated information. If your child is not getting the nutrients she needs, that should show up on blood tests for vitamin and mineral levels. Unfortunately Dr.s and other medical 'professionals' still rely on the 'food pryamid... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Bread Discontinued
Dixiebell replied to Piccolo's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I believe it was released in the Atlanta area. I wanted to try this bread and after asking the bread delivery people at different stores I finally found it at a Kroger near my sons Dr. office. If I remember correctly it was $7 or more per loaf. I could not see paying that much not even knowing if it tasted good or not. So we stuck with udi's. I was buying... -
ARCHIVED Joint Pain In Legs

Is your son positive for celiac? I hope he gets better soon.
