ARCHIVED How To Not Get In The Way Of Your Own Recovery? So Confused...
sandsurfgirl replied to Pyro's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Pyro, it's hard to read someone's tone on a message board, so please know that I'm not being argumentive or trying to give you a hard time. It's the mama in me that's talking to you. If you don't hear me now, one day you will and hopefully you don't remember this conversation with regret and wishing you had done things differently. -

Do what you want but clean living is the only way to fix your health and slow down aging. Of course you felt better temporarily from getting high. That's how drugs hook you. And the placebo effect would explain why your stomache felt better. Not arguing. Discussing. You are so young and you have a serious autoimmune disorder. Give yourself a fighting chance... -

Are you seriously advocating the use of psychedelic drugs to combat your celiac symptoms? There is enough evidence out there about the horrible damage they do to your body and your brain to warrant not using them. The use of plant drugs by native peoples has it controversies too, but when it's used according to their native customs it is under highly controlled... -

You have worse than an allergy. You have an autoimmune disorder. This is a very important thing to remember when you are tempted to cheat. Your body sees gluten as poison and is literally destroying your intestines to prevent absorption of it. If you get tempted to cheat just remember a little bit of gluten is like eating a little bit of glass. -
ARCHIVED Day 5 And Still So Bloated!
sandsurfgirl replied to miaryan's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I didn't have to give up all grains, but I only eat rice and corn. Lots of people struggle with corn but I don't. I use rice pasta, corn tortillas, and I use rice flour to make pancakes. It takes time. 5 days is not enough time to heal years of damage. I'm on week 6 and my bloating is just starting to go down now. Most of us, or many of us, cut out... -
ARCHIVED Disappointed By Local Chinese Rest
sandsurfgirl replied to serenajane's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Honestly, I would just find another place to eat. I gave up one of my favorite Mexican restaurants because they just have no clue about allergies, celiac or anything and they aren't willing to investigate to help me out. Move on and eat somewhere safe. -
ARCHIVED How Long Does It Take To Heal?
sandsurfgirl replied to GluFREEthatsME's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Unfortunately for some of us celiac causes us to gain weight instead of lose it. Your body is malnourished so it slows your metabolism and hangs on for dear life to every single calorie you eat. Also it will raise your appetite so you take in too many calories to compensate for the lack of nutrition. It's a myth that cost me 7 years of my life in illness... -

Girl you know that beautiful blonde only lasts awhile and then it fades to "dishwater blonde" and you have to help it out a bit! My hairdresser is more important than my doctor! I will dye until I die. If you get the biosilk, don't put it in the roots. Your hair will look oily. Put it on the ends and work it in. -

I did once and it was fine but I was scared every time I took a bite. The girl there told me that they can't guarantee gluten free, blah blah blah and I do think CC is a possible issue. So you didn't answer the question about whether you will have time for fun. Don't avoid it Jason! You are going to have some fun if it kills you! We will make sure of... -

OMG I sounded like such a snob! I'm cracking up that I wrote that. Take a look at Enjoy products and Biolage from Matrix. I also use the Matrix line of color care shampoo and conditioner. I'm not sure if they will have soy or casein, but I wouldn't worry about those so much. With celiac being autoimmune I think gluten is your biggest concern. They... -

Here it is Open Original Shared Link I've been using it for about 12 years now. It is a miracle really. Here are the ingredients Cyclomethicone, Dimethicone, SD Alcohol 40B, C12 15 Alkyl Benzoate, Ethyl Ester of Hydrolyzed Silk, Panthenol, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Fragrance, Hexyl Cinnamic Aldehyde, Benzyl Benzoate, Linalool... -

That's a different one of their products. I use Biosilk Silk Therapy and it is gluten free. It's a clear liquid. Actually they do sell it at Costco sometimes. It's not a conditioner. I guess it would be considered a treatment. I don't use Biosilk conditioner or shampoo because yes, they do contain wheat. -

It's just well... crap. I don't put anything cheap that I can get at a grocery store on my hair or face. I only use high quality salon products. -

I bleached my teeth so they're pretty white already. LOL But my skin is glowing. People have said so and I have to admit, it's true. Weird. Today I have so much energy I'm almost hyper active. I haven't been this energetic in years. I'm trying to just enjoy it, but I keep wondering when it's going to go away. Hopefully it continues and I can keep enjoying... -

So will you have any free time to do anything fun while you are there or will they fill up all your time with boring trade show stuff? If you do have free time I hope you can get out and enjoy yourself. I think you could do with some fun and laughs. -
ARCHIVED How To Not Get In The Way Of Your Own Recovery? So Confused...
sandsurfgirl replied to Pyro's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It's easy to get in a panic and start cutting all sorts of foods or trying all sorts of supplements which can just cause more distress and confusion. Supplements have to be treated like drugs. They can have side effects and they can cause the very problems you are trying to solve, so go slowly if you add anything. The best thing I did was start keeping... -

There is no plan that is going to be the perfect thing for you because plans aren't made for your specific body. Eating plans sell books. You are going to have to go by trial and error and see what is tolerable for you. Sometimes our guts go haywire and just don't want us to eat anything. That might not mean you are intolerant of all those foods. It could... -

I don't have any advice right now. I need to think about it and reread your post. Just wanted to send you some hugs and let you know that you will get the support you need here. I know it's so frustrating being 22 and suffering like this, but when I was 22 I had no answers. It took me until a month ago, just after I turned 40 to get a diagnosis of celiac... -

I never got so good at surfing either but it's still fun. -
I agree that weight loss can't be a goal right now. I need to lose 60 pounds. I never had a weight problem until my thyroid went haywire 7 years ago. I got unlucky and got the hypothyroism and the celiac where my body hangs onto calories instead of making me too thin. I just can't do caloric restriction while I'm healing. It's weird though because I've...

Jason, I am so amazed at the fact that you are dealing with so much health wise and you keep up with work and travel and all of that. I think you are a strong person and many would have crumbled by now. You had success at that one dinner and if you had gone to the other one you probably would have been okay. I think you should just take it one dinner...
