ARCHIVED Psychological Impact Of Celiac
sandsurfgirl replied to Don in Dallas's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Welcome and good job on the weight loss! I'm on week 6 now of the diet and just starting to feel more "normal." I still have digestive issues but not so bad. I'm on a pretty simple diet. Most of us find in the beiginning we need to cut diary, soy, some people cut nightshades like tomatoes and potatoes and bell peppers. I also don't eat any gluten free... -
ARCHIVED How Do I Maintain A High Fibre Diet On A Gluten Free Lifestyle?

As far as I know, there is no science behind giving up all those foods to get rid of candida and I personally don't believe in that. Take the probiotics and garlic, but if your candida is bad enough the only way to get rid of it is antifungal medicines. You cannot severly limit your diet that much when you are healing from celiac. -

Make sure you are using salon quality products not store bought stuff like Suave and Pantene. Enjoy and Matrix have some that don't have any wheat in them. I had to give up all my beautiful Redken and cried like a baby. Biosilk leave in hair treatment is phenomenal and I swear by it. People stop me in public and ask me about my hair and I say that Biosilk... -
ARCHIVED Using Tetracyclines To Help Bring Immune System Under Control

That's wonderful news that it's helping you so much. You are on an extremely low dose, and it's totally different than being on full dose antibiotics long term. There is a lot of paranoia out there about antibiotics and their overuse. Yes they are overused in some cases, but the biggest danger lies in people not finishing the bottle and that is one of... -
ARCHIVED Unexpected Changes
sandsurfgirl replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Your post took my breath away. It's just incredible how much that stupid bread took away from us. Just tonight my husband and I were on the phone and he was talking about how much I'm changing. I did not realize how truly unhappy I have been and worn out by being sick sick sick. I'm still sick, but not as sick as I was. I don't know what I'll do with... -

There is quite a bit of evidence that dairy isn't really good for us. A long time ago I read about a study on osteoporosis and they found that the countries that eat the most dairy have the most osteoporosis. Dairy products actually take more calcium to process than they have in them, so they think that dairy isn't really getting calcium into your bones.... -
Sounds like withdrawal. I've gone back and read so many threads on here about withdrawal and it's definitey a process. Things will get better, then get worse, steps forward, steps back. Have you gone to a simple diet like everyone recommends? That has helped me a lot, and I wish I had done it right from the start. It's not always fun, but it's not forever...

I'm having some changes from the gluten free diet that I didn't expect. My skin is brighter and clearer. Things in general look brighter to me. Colors are brighter and prettier. I think I was more depressed from being ill than I realized because in the past few days I have felt more peaceful in my spirit and I feel like my personality is changing for the...

Bummer! I know that fear that paralyzes you and makes you want to run away from eating out. Have you started the antiparasite meds yet? How is it going with that? -

That doctor sounds like an egomaniacal psychopath. I hate hearing stories like this because it brings up my own anger at doctors telling me stuff like that. Guess what egomaniac doctors? The internet is here to stay and patients aren't going to take your crap anymore. My mother in law is an allergist and she has that attitude. She told me that is... -
My advice is don't buy one. Gluten free breads don't need all that kneading and extra rising. There are some great recipes where you mix it up, put it in a bread pan, let it rise once and bake it. I have an expensive bread machine and I probably will never use it for gluten-free breads. I'm keeping it in case, but at this point don't need it.

ARCHIVED Dinner Out At Company Meeting Was A Success
sandsurfgirl replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I googled it and Wikipedia has a whole thing about it. I swear there is nothing you can't google these days. -
It just occurred to me that the fact that somebody gets sicker going gluten free should be an indicator that they do have celiac or gluten intolerance. I think that somebody who didn't have a gluten problem wouldn't feel too much difference whether they were on gluten or not. The withdrawals are a real process and they can be awful.

ARCHIVED 2Nd Week Off Gluten And So Sick
sandsurfgirl replied to Chrisco's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm on week 5 and I'm just starting to feel better GI wise the last couple of days but still not symptom free by any means. The first 2 weeks I was eating hidden gluten without knowing it. I also had wheat in all of my beauty products. When you eat out, be careful of chicken breast because it can be glazed with wheat starch. I was also eating gluten... -

ARCHIVED Very Confused About Whey And Dextrose Labeled On gluten-free Products
sandsurfgirl replied to virginiagl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I buy things that have the processed in a facility label because if I didn't I would buy pretty much nothing. Because so many people are sue happy, they have to put warnings on everything that make it confusing. Cleaning out peanut butter machinery and switching it over is so difficult I just don't imagine them doing that very much. Maltodextrin in... -

Awesome idea! -
Having been misdiagnosed for 40 years I have processed a lot of anger. I've been through so many emotions since I got diagnosed about 5 weeks ago. Lately I've been reading novels a lot to just escape a bit. Accepting that anger is a natural part of the grieving process will help you heal and move past it quicker. This is a grieving process just like if...

I need to lose weight, but I have the same issue that I'm on the go alot and have to bring food with me. I always make extra at dinner for leftovers. I also cook a turkey breast and chicken breasts and then cut portions and freeze it in baggies. For lunches I often don't take a meal, I take a bunch of food. I already did!! I hadn't checked their website, but actually it's all on there with ingredient lists and allergen info. So that's even more amazing. We will definitely go back. Plus it's always nice to watch gorgeous men on horses with weapons.
