I was just thinking that severe caloric restriction like that when you didn't have enough to eat can also contribute to your depression because of blood sugar issues, etc.

Jason, listen to all of us. PLEASE. You have to get therapy. You have to. Read your post and look at what you are saying. Doing yourself in. Growing old and alone. These are not safe thoughts to be having and you are in a very BAD place right now. You CAN get past this and you can get better. But you need mental and emotional strength and stamina to get...

Nightmares where I eat gluten. One was that I ate a whole plate of pancakes at I HOP and for hours I was sitting there waiting and waiting for symptoms to start. Another one was that I ate a bite of a cookie as i walked past a plate and got sick immediately. I never thought food would be a nightmare for me.

Hilarious! I'm sure all guys with that was a celiac symptom.

ARCHIVED I'm Always Worried Something Else Is Going On!
sandsurfgirl replied to DonaldandAlanda Evans's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I went through a period where I was panicking that celiac had caused some horrible things to my body. But everyday I feel better and better. My biggest challenge is dehydration and electrolyte imbalance. If I don't sip water all day long and front load in the morning with a couple of big glasses of water, plus my electrolyte replacement, I will get dizzy... -
Exactly. Even many GI docs are clueless about celiac so stick with the doc who is diagnosing you because he sounds pretty knowledgable. Your GI issues are celiac symptoms and you may have other health issues that you are not attributing to celiac. For instance, I started having anxiety attacks and feeling like I was crawling out of my skin about a...

ARCHIVED Cross Contamination
sandsurfgirl replied to dhiltonlittle's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have only been gluten free for a couple of months and I don't ever intend on cheating. But I have been accidentally glutened a couple of times and I got a short bout of symptoms lasting a few hours. I guess I'm blessed that I don't get sick for days, but I do know that it could change in the future. I hope I don't get glutened again but I know that it... -
ARCHIVED Article Of Interest?
sandsurfgirl replied to chasbari's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think the article is right that 100% will never ever happen. Nothing in life is 100% accurate and with all the foods out there like they said, things are going to happen. I do think that companies will be far more careful about allergens than they will about calorie counts because they are worried about lawsuits. No company wants to be responsible for... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Load 5 Year Old Before Blood Tests?
sandsurfgirl posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I was diagnosed about 2 months ago. My 5 year old has symptoms and the ped is ordering a large panel of celiac blood work for him. He has been lighter on his gluten since he eats much of the gluten free food I eat. However he does still eat gluten like on his bread or cookies or whatever. The ped didn't think being "gluten light" would affect the... -
ARCHIVED Falling Off The Gluten-Free Wagon

Today my kids had those super soft frosted sugar cookies from the grocery store. Those are one of my FAVORITE indulgences. I just sat there smelling them. It was so tempting, but then I remember the way I feel and the awful GI symptoms and then smelling them is enough. Now I'm on a quest to find a good gluten free sugar cookie recipe and create something... -
ARCHIVED How Common Is Lactose Intolerance In Celiac's?
sandsurfgirl replied to 1morething's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It is pretty common but I've always heard it's more common when you are newly diagnosed because the tips of the villi are where the enzymes get made to digest lactose. Many people have reported on here that after they were healed they added at least some dairy back in. Some can never add it back in. It could be a possibility of course. Dairy isn't exactly... -

ARCHIVED When Will It Get Better
sandsurfgirl replied to Fozzie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Wow great birthday present! I found out just after my 40th birthday when I ended up in the ER after all the celebrating with pizza, cake and other goodies. I have been battling dizzy spells and it's been linked to dehydration and electrolyte imbalance for me. It's really a battle to stay hydrated and keep the electrolytes up. If I am lax about getting... -
ARCHIVED Some People Are Cruel

Good for you! Please please tell me she apologized. You know, there are some nasty people in the world, but this thing has gotten under my skin. It's so deliberately evil. I just can't find another word for it. If somebody did that to me... oh I can't even think of it. -
ARCHIVED Feeling Defeated, Gluten Free 40 Days But Symptoms Came Back?

Is it possible you have a stomache virus? You can have just D without vomiting with one of those and they don't always cause a fever. -
ARCHIVED Falling Off The Gluten-Free Wagon
sandsurfgirl replied to kare101's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I sobbed like a baby over never having Guinness again and I don't even drink beer very often. It was just the thought that it's forbidden if I ever get to Ireland and go to an Irish pub. I've cried over lots of foods. Food is culture. Food is family. You can get a PhD in Anthropology and focus on food and culture! You need to honor your grieving process... -
ARCHIVED Falling Off The Gluten-Free Wagon

So.... if somebody is overweight is it okay to say "You know fatso you might get more dates if you lose 50 pounds."? Or if somebody has a big nose, is it okay to say "Hey if you got some work done on that nose maybe you wouldn't be so ugly."? The "simple truth" is inappropriate in all sorts of situations. I'm sure there are all sorts of things about you that... -

I gave up all artificial sweeteners a couple of years ago when I read how evil they are. They truly are poison. I craved sweets less and my weight didnt' change from it. David, you're freaking me out!!! That is so gross about the mildew in the lines. You are SO right that it's just nasty chemical water, but it used to be good tasting chemical water... -
Your doctor is smarter than most. Many of us would give anything to have a doctor who realizes that a positive blood test is positive. There are false negatives but not really false positives. Use the search function on here and look at old threads dealing with Withdrawals. There is a healing and withdrawal period where you can either not feel better...

ARCHIVED I Ate At A Buffet Today
sandsurfgirl replied to serenajane's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You are brave. Were you able to talk to the manager or chef and find out what was safe to eat? Do you think you got glutened there? -
One benefit to living in L.A. is that there are lots of skinny people who are watching what they eat at parties, so many people just graze on the veggies or walk around with a wine glass all night. I haven't been to too many things yet, but the ones I've been to nobody noticed what I was eating. A sit down dinner would be harder.

Since I went gluten free a couple of months ago I went to a simple diet and only lately have been adding some things back. I decided the other day to try some Pepsi at a restaurant. I got it from the machine and it tasted awful, like soap and chemicals. I figured they didn't wash the lines properly and got something else instead. Then at another place...

ARCHIVED Some People Are Cruel
sandsurfgirl replied to canutillomom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was thinking about this today, and feeling outraged and then I thought, maybe this bad can be turned into something good. As a celiac, you have to be assertive to make sure your needs are met. There are times when you have to work very hard to get through to a restaurant manager or whatever and you need to make things perfectly clear. So maybe it's time... -
I think it's just too soon. There is a withdrawal period and a healing period and it takes time. I'm on about week 8 and saw just a little improvement until week 5, but my gut issues got really bad before they got better. I'm still not 100% but I'm way way way better now.

ARCHIVED Some People Are Cruel
sandsurfgirl replied to canutillomom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
OH. MY. WORD. She is evil. How are you controlling yourself not to call and tell her off? I would let her know how sick you are, how despicable her actions are, and that she will not ever see you or your family again. What she did is dangerous, and just evil. I can't think of a better word than evil. I am so sorry. I don't understand people I really...
