  1. Take the time now to peruse the restaurants forum for ideas. Then check chain restaurants websites. Many have allergen info. Islands, Pei Wei, Outback, PF Changs, Daphne's have stuff on their sites. If you call Baja Fresh they have it at corporate. They're working on the site.
  2. I have insomnia now and I just asked my mother in law who is an allergist about melatonin. She was adamant that I do NOT take it. She said it's bad for anybody with an autoimmune disease or any immune system problem. She's pretty good with natural stuff, so if she doesn't like something natural I generally listen to her.
  3. It's safe from everything I've read. I eat it with no problems and I'm pretty sensitive.
  4. I had a Dr. Ahole, Dr. Moron, Dr. Idiot. I would write a letter and send it to him with specific info about your lab results. Not an angry one, even though you want to send an angry one, but an informative one. I would make it short as possible. I called a couple of my old docs just to let them know and I plainly said "If you have another patient with...
  5. Can I please see the (insert foul words here) person who puts wheat starch in RICE noodles? I think whoever is doing that should be flogged with his noodles. That just pisses me off.
  6. I didn't read all the replies so sorry if I'm repeating. The constant hunger when you are new to the diet is because of withdrawals. Your body is healing gut damage and who knows what other damage and it needs tons of fuel. I was STARVING for at least 2 months. Now my appetite is normalizing after being abnormally high for years. You need to give your...
  7. Rat poison, a little bit of glass, toxins, whatever analogy makes sense to you. When you eat gluten as a celiac your body has an autoimmune reaction and destroys your intestine, whether it's a little bit or a lot. So... it's dangerous. I have small kids, age 2 and 5. I had to make our house gluten free because they were glutening me constantly. I couldn...
  8. Gluten Free Pantry French Bread and Pizza mix! Best yummiest pizza crust. I spray my hands with oil so I can pat it down flat. I use a chunk for a small piza for myself and bake the rest into a loaf of bread.
  9. I sent my email. My husband works in TV and he says that they do pay attention to emails like this, but if as many people as possible send a NICE email, not a screaming one, it will get more attention. So send your emails. That's a popular show and if we're nice maybe they will devote some time to us and fix the mistake.
  10. The tiredness is awful for me.I got glutened yesterday and I'm SOOOOO tired. People have all sorts of symptoms with celiac, not just GI stuff. Probably another reason it's tough to diagnose. Neuro symptoms are pretty common, anxiety, depression, sleep disorders. Anxiety became the bane of my existence for about 8 months before my diagnosis. It was so...
  11. I think I would try to throw up too. As nasty as that is, I would probably freak out. Thankfully it was just one swig!
  12. I have to admit I thought it was paranoia too. I'm still foggy headed today and some tummy issues, but not as bad as yesterday.
  13. OMG Karen, I've had dreams that I did something like that! Or I've had the urge to grab a gluten thing that my kids are eating and absentmindedly pop it into my mouth. What did you do??? You must have freaked out.
  14. I have to agree with the others. Let it go and keep your job. It's an incentive program. If lunches were part of your salary or you had to travel for work all the time, it would be different.
  15. Happy pity party! LOL It sucks to watch people just enjoy food without a care. But then you realize that since so many are undiagnosed and they think it's 1 in 100 that have celiac or gluten intolerance, then most likely there are some people scarfing down the donuts and having D or gas afterwards secretly.
  16. Oh honey, you need to give yourself time to grieve. That's a huge breakup, even if it is for the best. My first husband was an abusive maniac, but I still felt like I was losing my right arm when I divorced him after 3 years of marriage. It was the best thing for me but it still hurt like hell. You are also so new to the diet and that grieving takes time...
  17. It is patently wrong that my husband, who feels like dirt right now, can gluten me by forgetting to brush his teeth before he kisses me. Wrong, wrong, wrong and so not fair. NOTHING can be spontaneous in my life. Nothing.
  18. HUGS We all go through bad times. It will get better! Hang in there.
  19. I'm leery of fancy supplements. The cynic in me thinks they know that people taking them are sick and often desperate, turning to them because the MD's have failed. They prey on that desperation. I won't spend more than about $20 on a bottle of probiotics. It's bacteria. How much can that really cost? I say stay with the cheaper ones. You made me hurk...
  20. Round of applause for you!!! You are a keeper and this earns you like 1000 points!!! The same stuff the others said. Cross contamination and kissing. Brush your teeth after you eat gluten and wash your hands too. Good luck with the new relationship. If she doesn't appreciate the efforts you are making, then keep trying because a guy willing to do what...
  21. Did you try cutting soy and dairy? Those two seem to be common secondary intolerances for lots of people. I had to cut both of them and still soy makes me feel like a knife in my gut. Dairy I've been able to add back in moderation now after 3 months. Tapioca bothers me too and it's in lots of gluten free replacements. And yes you can get glutened from...
  22. I swear by the Bodybugg but it's expensive. YOu wear the thing on your arm and it tracks the actual calories you burn with 95% accuracy, plus cardio and steps taken. YOu put your food in the calorie tracker and it lets you know how many calories in compared with what you burned.
  23. I didn't read all the replies, but just had to say... that woman is all kinds of crazy. Why is your food budget her business? You spend hardly anything by the way. I mean wow, I'm impressed. She is a total b----- for saying those things about you. I'm so sorry!
  24. I don't know. People do it all the time. They talk about their experiences on the restaurant board. I think Olive Garden is gross anyway, but there are chains I've had no problem with. I'm not going to let celiac stop me from living my life. I lead an active lifestyle and we're on the go a lot. Eating out has to be part of my life or I'll be stuck at home...
  25. yeah, I was tracking my calories on a website and eating like 2200 a day and I was still hungry! I know I'm nowhere near that now.
