  1. My family is so great about it. My dad forgot to save a piece of tri tip for me without marinade and the marinade had gluten. They defrosted chicken breast and found gluten free seasoning to put on it. I had to convince him to cook it on the clean part of the grill because he was so afraid of contaminating it! He was begging me just to cook it in the kitchen...
  2. I had lots of other pregnancy problems. Bleeding, contractions, preterm labor, the worst most horrible pelvic pain imaginable like someone was gutting me with a knife, joint pain so bad I could hardly walk. My son was a month early and my daughter I was in labor from 34 weeks on. I called my OB after my diagnosis and told her about it. She attributes ALL...
  3. Have you girls ever gotten glutened around that time of the month and it made your PMS bad? I usually will get it a little bit but not horrible. I was supposed to start a few days ago and then got glutened. My PMS pain, lethargy, cramps have been downright awful and I'm starting late now, today instead of 3 days ago. UGH misery.
  4. For a first date I wouldn't go into any details. It's just TMI for a first date. I would simply say "I have food allergies. Do you mind letting me know ahead of time where we're going so I can call and find out what I can order?" Even if he asks for details I wouldn't give too many at first. It's just not polite conversation to talk about your illnesses...
  5. Happy birthday and happy gluten free healing to you!
  6. I think it's also important to be straighforward, matter of fact and firm when you discuss your disease with people. Don't waffle or apologize. Nobody has ever doubted me when I talk about celiac because I talk with authority and I'm very firm about it. I also don't give people info about uncertain diagnoses or the ins and outs of the disease unless they...
  7. A lot of people ask this question so I did some research a couple of months ago. Autoimmune disorders can cause hives so yes you can get hives just because you have celiac. Sorry, don't know where the websites are anymore. That being said, it's important to rule out allergies because of the risk of anaphylaxis.
  8. Read my thread about personality changes. It affects more than your mood. I'm a different person on gluten.
  9. Why did you go gluten free in the first place and why are you repeating tests? There is no way in hell I would go back on gluten for a test. That's crazy. What's wrong with the tests you took in the first place? The reason I ask is that many if not most doctors don't know how to interpret the results. If you get a positive on any of the 5 blood tests that...
  10. Prediagnosis it wasn't only D with me. There were times when I just had to pee NOW and if I didn't go, it would irritate my bowel and cause me to run for the bathroom for that too. When I was pregnant with my daughter my son was 2 1/2 to 3. I would carry a giant cup in the mini van because there were times I had to pee and could not make it to a bathroom...
  11. Rice Dream is processed with barley enzymes and the gluten is trace trace trace but many of us, including me won't use it even if it's only 20 parts per million. I use almond milk. Blue Diamond is good and when I cook with the original nobody complains. Even mashed potatoes and gravy turn out good with it. I'm suffering today from eating dairy yesterday...
  12. I'm going to try to scare you straight. You MUST stop eating gluten. For celiacs gluten is poison. It's not LIKE poison it IS poison. Every time you eat gluten your immune system goes into overdrive and causes destruction in your intestintes which further destroys other parts of your body. There is a member on here who was undiagnosed for years and wanna...
  13. You are still in healing phase so there's a good chance it's just one of those weird times then. Don't stress about it. You've done everything to protect yourself. We can't let this disease run our lives. I still get funny tummy stuff for no reason even if I haven't eaten out or anything. I just chalk it up to my damaged gut.
  14. aloe juice can cause D and all sorts of nasty stuff. I wouldn't do that. Here's some info I found. it is important to pay attention to the side effects of this drink especially when you are suffering from a medical condition such as Crohn's disease, colitis, appendicitis and intestinal problems. Allergic Reaction: In certain cases, aloe vera juice...
  15. Metamucil KILLS me with gut pain. I can't tolerate it at all. Get off of that stuff first. Soy gives me pain in my gut like I'm being stabbed. Your diagnosis is still a bit on the newish side. It can take time to heal. I'm in month 7 and I didn't start feeling really good and normal until about month 5 1/2. I felt better all the time as things resolved...
  16. A few thoughts. 1. How long have you been gluten free? If you are still in the first few months, sometimes you can just get sick for no reason because of healing or withdrawals. I had that happen for the first 4 months. I would know I had no gluten but I felt glutened. 2. Did you use any new soaps, shampoos, conditioner, etc. that might have had gluten...
  17. That's awful! I eat out a lot and I've only been glutened 3 times. Once it was McD's fries. They must have messed up the dedicated fryer. I will never eat McD's fries again. The second was Daphne's fries. Won't eat fries except In N Out now. Then Pei Wei. But I've seriously eaten Pei Wei at least 20 times since diagnosis so that's pretty decent odds. I...
  18. The carbs thing is tricky though because you do not want to eat too little carbs and go into ketosis. I do find corn easier to digest oddly enough since so many have trouble with it. Fresh corn or frozen or even gluten free corn flakes. Funny huh? Plan rice I do better with than stuff made of rice. I eat lots of fruits and veg, although it tends to be...
  19. I've been eating gluten free at Pei Wei every week with no problem but on Friday night they got me!!!! I've had anxiety, heart racing, D then C, horrible stabbing pains and I'm so bloated I look preggo. I weighed myself and I gained 5 pounds from yesterday to today in water and bloating. Gah!!! I need to call them tomorrow when it's not so busy and...
  20. I had independent confirmation yesterday about this. I went to a pool party at a friend's house whom I haven't seen in about a year. She came up to me and said "Heather you have changed so much. I've never seen you so calm and at peace. You are a totally different person. Even in your emails I could tell a difference." She knew I was sick for a long...
  21. Isn't it great not to have all day anxiety attacks? I've been spending all my free time writing and now looking for an agent. I missed all my celiac peeps though! The best club you never wanted to join!
  22. Ooh I don't allow anyone into the bathroom. My kids try to barge in and I hate it. I don't want to see him in the toilet either. We have separate bathrooms!
  23. The last one before diagnosis. I was with my kids at the beach and my husband met us after work. We went to dinner at our favorite Mexican restaurant and of course I ate plenty of gluten. I had my 2 and 5 year old in the car and husband was way behind me on the way home. He had stayed there for some reason a bit after us but I can't remember why. I...
  24. I'm laughing so hard I'm crying. I love reading your posts! You write so well.
  25. He needs information. As much as you probably want to throttle him, you'll have to find a way to do it lovingly and tell him you understand his concerns. I would print up or photocopy a simple one page explanation. I'm sure you can find something somewhere. Have your husband give it to him. Keep the kids away from them for now and keep working at...
