  1. Wow that's great on the art shows! When you don't feel like walking death you can get some things done. LOL
  2. Yeah like anaphylaxis. It scares me. I'm seeing an allergist next week and I'm going to ask him to create an allergy test for me to know for sure. If so I may need an epipen. Scary!
  3. They have other friends with celiac and are worried about you. These friend are keepers!!! You pick the restaurant. They will understand and what's more, they are tired from traveling. They will appreciate you doing the research and just saying "Let's go here."
  4. Take charge and invite them over to your house first. Make a plan ahead of time. And then you can explain. Hope you feel better soon. Hydrate!!! Drink plenty of water to flush that out of you.
  5. I am militant about natural thyroid. Check out www.stopthethyroidmadness.com for lots of info about it. Armour is tough to get and also they changed their formula so not as effective. I take Naturethroid. It has been LIFE ALTERING for me, even before celiac diagnosis. I wouldn't let synthetic thyroid cross my lips again. I take my natural thyroid...
  6. Costco has pretty cooler bags too. Even a zebra stripe with pink trim for the girls!
  7. The first time I went grocery shopping after diagnosis I had a major panic attack. I was in Sprouts with a full cart of groceries and I got so dizzy i could barely stand. My throat was closing up and my chest was in vise grip. I left my cart right there in line and ran out to my car. It took me 15 minutes to calm down so I could drive home safely and I was...
  8. You are still in the withdrawal phase and it's normal to go through that. Think about a tiny army of construction workers working round the clock to heal damage all over your body. That takes a ton of energy and you are detoxing from all the gluten. Also, the celiac doc I went to said people with autoimmune disorders have problems with dehydration and...
  9. I went through a period where I was reacting to everything but it passed. I think it was about 3 months into the diet. I cut dairy, soy and gluten all at the same time. I didn't cut every smidge of soy like lecithin, just obvious soy. I am 7 months gluten free. I can eat some dairy now but I take it easy. if I go overboard I get bloated and crampy...
  10. My acupuncturist flat out said "I cannot cure your celiac disease. What I can do is make your body strong so that if you get glutened accidentally you will recover quicker. But you MUST stay gluten free the rest of your life and don't cheat because it will damage your body." Which is why I love him. I would never cheat anyway. This is terribly blunt but...
  11. I have DEEP seated anger at the ignorance of doctors on the not losing weight point. I was talked out of testing for celiac 7 years ago because I was having trouble losing weight. The idiot, stupid, moron, poor excuse for a doctor let alone human being who treated me said "ALL" celiacs are underweight. Nothing could be further from the truth. There are...
  12. Going gluten free falsified your tests. I would change docs if you can. He doesn't know what he's talking about. I was diagnosed with celiac based on positive very high blood work and I don't have malabsorption issues come up on tests. When you do a gluten challenge by eating it before testing it's NEVER only one week. It's like 4 to 6 weeks of...
  13. So sorry to hear that. It's such a rough time right now. It sucks that work places make it so difficult for celiacs. Are you really 6ft6? My brothers are 6ft4 and that's tall. Somehow I ended up 4'11" and guess what the doc thinks? Undiagnosed celiac as a kid caused my growth to be stunted. I was super tall in the 5th grade. This height actually...
  14. I eat their chocolate chips with no problem and I'm pretty sensitive.
  15. I've had the opposite creativity wise. I've been writing for years but never could finish anything because of anxiety and energy levels. Anxiety caused me writer's block or low self esteem where I couldn't create. Since I went gluten free I finally finished a novel and I'm shopping for an agent now. I feel like a tiger was pent up inside my gluten filled...
  16. You two are cracking me up!
  17. Tapioca makes my mouth tingle and my nose gets stuffy. So I'm limted on gluten free brands.
  18. When I first got diagnosed I used to read people's posts about having trouble with all starchy carbs. I freaked out! I was so worried that would happen to me. But I also think we are hyper aware. In the past I would have chalked up the discomfort to overeating or something and lived with it. I just have no tolerance anymore for bloating and gas. LOL ...
  19. Yes that's true. It's really frustrating, but at the same time if you are feeling like a prisoner to food, then maybe it's worth the risk? At least it's worth figuring out where you can eat so in an emergency you can eat out. Let's face it. This disease sucks.
  20. I didn't realize the horrible effect gluten has on a celiac brain until I was diagnosed and have seen the changes in myself. I always thought I was just a high strung, type A personality. I was intense about things and I blamed it on being a fiery Italian girl. I would watch TV and get all upset over politics or whatever and I thought I was just passionate...
  21. I didn't realize how overly large my appetite was until going gluten free. When I first went through withdrawals I was starving all the time and could gnaw someone's arm off if they got between me and food. It lasted about 3 weeks like I posted earlier on this thread. It's been 7 months now and my appetite is normalizing. I used to eat 3 pancakes, fruit...
  22. I'm finding that as I get healthier and my diet gets cleaner I feel icky when I eat heavy carbs like gluten free breads, gluten free cookies, etc. I don't feel particularly sick like a glutening does, but it just seems to sit in my stomach, hard to digest and overall blah. I made gluten free pizza tonight and I'm up late with bloating. It also is likely...
  23. I know it's hard that you have to live with this all the time when others don't. But... I think you are being overly sensitive in this instance. It's a relaxed social atmosphere and she was just handing food around which is the polite thing to do. I don't expect anyone to remember my disease or accomodate me. If they do, I'm extremely grateful, but everyone...
  24. I went through terrible withdrawals and my brain fog got BAD for a few weeks. It came and went for a couple of months. Now I haven't had it for a very long time. Can't remember the last time I had it honestly. If you do a search for withdrawals here in the forums you can get long discussions about it. I had them for a few months. It took me about 4 1/...
  25. I'm all for going gluten free with beauty products. I saw a HUGE difference in my health when I did and I resisted big time. Any soaps or lotions that get on your hands will get into your mouth when you eat, prep your food, scratch your face, etc. Shampoo and conditioner run down your face and it's very hard not to get traces in your mouth in the shower....
