  1. Tinkyada rice pasta is good. I know it's hard but I think you're making the best choice. A one year old will put everything in his mouth. YOu just can't monitor it all.
  2. Oh please. Blood work is wrong All. THE. TIME. There are scores of people on here whose blood work was negative but had life changing effects from the diet. You have to eat a ton of gluten when you do a gluten challenge. Why? Because the blood work isn't so accurate or sensitive. I only came up positive on one of the 5 blood tests yet I was bedridden and...
  3. Gemini that is absolutely NOT true that good quality shampoos do not contain wheat. I am a total products snob and I have literally like 10 bottles of products in my shower. Nearly EVERY high quality salon product contains wheat because if you're not celiac it's good for your hair. Redken, Aveda, ABBA, Paul Mitchell, Purology the most expensive high quality...
  4. You are WAYYYYYY too new at this to have full benefit from the gluten free diet. Now that you are gluten free the tests are invalid anyway. You won't test positive on a gluten free diet. It took me 6 months to rid myself of nearly all symptoms and feel really good. I still problems here and there even if I'm not glutened. It takes awhile for the gut...
  5. I've just now started tolerating tapioca at 8 months gluten free and I'm careful with it. Arrowhead Mills gluten free pancake mix has no tapioca and no xanthan gum, another culprit.
  6. We are all overwhelmed in the beginning. It gets easier and then it just becomes your life.
  7. Eat clean in the beginning to help healing. Don't go nuts on gluten free junk foods and starchy carbs. When you feel better here are a few things I like. By far the best bread I've tried and the cheapest ($4 a loaf on the internet order place named after a river) is Gluten Free Pantry Basic White Bread Mix. It's super easy to make. Mix it up. Rise...
  8. Ooooh that makes me so mad. I wonder if the wheat industry sponsored that "study." We all know that the tests can give false negatives. How often are they testing? We all know you have to eat a boatload of gluten to challenge it and test positive. So if they are just eating small amounts they are doing damage but not enough to show up on the crap tests. ...
  9. It will get better. You are still a baby. LOL I feel so amazing now and that's all a distant memory. I'm a different person literally. At one month I was barely functioning, in bed all the time, all sorts of weird symptoms and weird phases. Hungry all the time. Not hungry at all. this bothered me. then that bothered me. then all food bothered me. then it...
  10. You probably got CC'd. At restaurants with a gluten free menu I tell the waitress or manager that I'm very sensitive. I request that they speak personally to the chef and let him know I'm sensitive to cross contamination and can he please be extra careful with my order.
  11. Get a separate toaster for sure and do not share a collander if he is cooking gluten pasta. Its' way hard to get pasta gluten out. Also be careful of contaminating condiments. We had to all go gluten free at home because we have small kids who kept glutening me. Crumbs get everywhere. If he will still eat gluten bread he needs a dedicated space to work...
  12. Welcome to the best club you never wanted to join! The pots and pans thing- I did get new ones but that was because i read that the nonstick coating is very dangerous and stays in the blood stream so I went with all stainless. I think the main thing is plastics and wooden spoons. I just washed the heck out of mine and it was fine. I was extremely...
  13. I'll send you some of mine too! LOL What if you mix up the extra calories between carbs, protein and healthy fats? Add avocado, maybe some extra olive oil on veggies or salad. Also smoothies can be high in calories and pack a lot of nutrition. Of course without any stuff you don't eat in them.
  14. No it's not an unreasonable fear at all. I'm sorry if I sounded like that's what I meant or if it came out hurtful. It is scary having celiac, but we can't isolate ourselves either.
  15. My hair gets into my mouth when I'm sleeping too, or when it's wet it whips across my face.
  16. Sue, I avoided doing much walking today but now thatI think of it I probably should have done it to get things moving. Heather
  17. I got glutened a couple of days ago by my toddler. I've had all the usual symptoms and today was added the worst bowel cramps and most painful C. Any suggetions? It hurts BAD.
  18. Now that is fascinating! Good for you for keeping up the diet despite the lack of testing evidence for it. The guy who diagnosed me treats his RA with gluten free diet. He isn't celiac. He is off RA meds entirely and totally pain free on a gluten free diet.
  19. I didn't read all the replies so pardon if I repeat. It can take awhile to heal the damage in your intestine. I got better slowly over time but I wasn't feeling great for 6 months. (sorry for that bad news.) You will go through a withdrawal period where your body will go wacky wonky on you. I couldn't eat all sorts of things at first and now it's all...
  20. My kids get me because they run up and kiss me on the mouth with gluten on their lips. I doubt kids you babysit will do that. Also my toddler gets ahold of my water bottle. So I have to babysit my water bottle if she's eating gluten and I have a no kissing policy if they have it.
  21. Soy gives me writhing stabbing pain in my gut and my nose gets all stuffy and swollen. I was drinking soymilk daily before I got diagnosed with celiac. Cut soy at the recommendation of this board and then when I challenged it YIKES! The pain was so bad I writhed in bed all night long. Accidentally ate soy flour in some gluten free cookies and thought I...
  22. You have long hair and I 100% guarantee that shampoo and conditioner are getting into your mouth. You would have to hold your head back and then rinse like crazy to get all the gluten out of your hair. Then wash all the gluten off your hands before you eat or touch your mouth. Shampoo runs down your face and it gets onto your lips. I do not use any beauty...
  23. Just to let you know there was a huge argument over this "celiac is not a disease concept" and the thread was shut down. There are quite a few who feel offended by a comment like that considering all the suffering and pain and loss we have experienced, but I see what you are saying. I don't agree that gluten is a toxin by any means unless you are celiac or...
  24. I tend to agree. Gluten free is NOT low carb by any means unless you are going low carb. The gluten free stuff has much less whole grain components, more fat and the junk food is just as junky as regular junk food. People who don't have celiac, wheat intolerance, blah blah etc. are better off not being gluten free and getting those whole grains. Barley and...
  25. Wash your hands and you'll be fine. Clean the kids up after so they don't get their crumbs all over you if they are little and will hug you and whatnot.
