  1. I know within about 20 minutes. FYI Lipton onion soup is gluten free as far as I know. Do a search for it on here. It used to have gluten if I remember correctly.
  2. My parents are just the opposite. They are so worried I will get sick they go overboard and tell me not to eat things that are safe. I love it. I know I can eat safely at their house even if there's gluten being prepared.
  3. I don't think dating with celiac is a big deal unless you make it one. I think if you go into great detail about your ailments with someone you hardly know, that's a big deal. I know it's not an allergy but I would say "I have a food allergy and I have to be careful about what I eat." Make sure you go to a restaurant where you can eat. Call ahead. I think...
  4. Oh man at one week I was still bedridden! I overwhelm ignorance with facts and give them an education they never wanted! "It's an autoimmune disease that causes organ damage." The minute I say that they usually shut up. "My small intestine has been destroyed and attacked by my immune system so it takes time to repair and heal. There is no medication for...
  5. Oh man. I can't imagine. My son was a premie and so so sick all the time for the first couple of years. We made so many hospital and ER trips and it was exhausting. That was before diagnosis but I still starved sometimes just because there wasn't food around.
  6. Lawry's season salt and McCormick lemon pepper together are so good on meats. People rave about my steak and my pork chops when I use those. I put olive oil, salt and the lemon pepper on veggies before I grill them and they come out so good! It gets easier. I promise! One thing that helps me a ton is I don't try to make meals for every meal...
  7. Thanks for the support. My celiac peeps get it! It is so scary to think I could face days of being ill because somebody is being a jerk. The sad thing is he's not a jerk. He's a pretty nice guy and good friend, but I don't know what got into his head. He saw how sick I was before. He's seen the changes in me since going gluten free. I couldn't believe...
  8. You poor thing! Doing this while your husband is away must be so hard. HUGS
  9. Ha ha! I've been to the dark side too. Ugly nasty place. Soy kills me! I was drinking soymilk daily before diagnosis since I couldn't digest dairy. Constant sinus infections. I cut soy and tried it again. My nose swelled up inside and my sinuses were terrible. And the pain in my gut was unbearable. Soy is evil for me.
  10. Chalk another sad story up to stupid doctors. They should have explained to you how serious this is you poor thing. Yes with allergies sometimes you can build a tolerance and eat small bits of the allergen if it's not life threatening. Not so with celiac. There is no amount of gluten that you can eat. The good news is that it WILL get better when you...
  11. I yelled at my neighbor yesterday. He is a nice guy so I don't want to paint him like he's a big jerk or anything. But he has made some teeny tiny comments sort of not taking my celiac seriously enough. Well yesterday we BBQ'd together. They brought steak and I provided chicken. He was grilling on my grill and then I realized I better check to see what...
  12. I am really direct with people about this disease. If someone tries to minimize it they get a medical lecture. I do not get defensive or upset. I stay matter of fact and blow them away with the facts. You need to stand up for yourself by being strong and saying this is what celiac is. This is what it does. If anyone in my life persisted (thankfully...
  13. I hope your baby is better soon! So happy to hear about your good hospital experience. That's one of my horrible fears that I would be hospitalized and get glutened a bunch of times.
  14. I'm struggling to lose weight gluten free. I blow it with Glutino Candy bars, Glutino wafer cookies, Betty Crocker cookie mix, etc. LOL Oh and those Ghirardelli milk chocolate chips. Yum!
  15. I've been gluten free for about 9 months but I'm waiting on gluten free oats. However I was extremely ill when I got diagnosed. It took me 6 months gluten free to start feeling good. So for me it's just not time yet.
  16. I am so excited for you! Happy for you! Proud of you!! Such a big step in conquering your fear, conquering this disease and regaining your freedom. I am very sensitive. Got glutened from kissing once. Got glutened from running my fingers through my hair and then eating crackers without washing hands first when I had wheat conditioner in my hair. But...
  17. We all understand. Got glutened twice recently from trace gluten and it sucks so bad.
  18. Congrats!!! Great results.
  19. Ditto about the oats. Oats and wheat are alternated in fields year by year. Wheat of course will sprout up in the field so most oats are contaminated. There are gluten free oats supposedly. I haven't dared try them yet although I'd love to. Oats are a great source of fiber and they taste good, but I'm scared. And yes, celiacs can react to oats too. I think...
  20. I kind of laugh when people say gluten free is good for your health. Only if you eat healthy food and you can certainly do that on a gluten diet for a lot cheaper and make life easier if you aren't celiac or intolerant. Let's see, I think I could make a gluten free day totally NOT healthy. Breakfast: Kinnikinnick gluten free donuts, coffee with...
  21. They have the gluten free Bisquick at my local Vons but it was $6.50 for a tiny box!! YIKES! So I didn't buy it.
  22. Really? Did you use real butter and follow the recipe exactly? My whole family loves them and every gluten eater I feed them to goes nuts for them. They are my go to cookies. I wonder why they didnt' turn out.
  23. Well now I'm crying reading your post. I'm so sorry you are at a crisis point right now. Number one you have got to get gluten out of your diet. You can eat fruits, veggies, meats, eggs, rice and you don't have to have lots of gluten free substitutes right now. Anxiety became the very worst of my symptoms before I got diagnosed and it is the first...
  24. I bet the CFS is related to gluten. I will be surprised if you don't get relief. If I were you I would add back in the fruits and some sugar and stuff, not go crazy or anything, but focus on being gluten free and eating as healthy as you can for gut healing.
  25. It's not inevitable for anyone and I think you are depressed if you're thinking this way. That's not a normal or healthy thought process to be going through. The body just keeps on kicking against tremendous odds. My mother is diabetic but eats sugar like it's going out of style and weighs about 350 pounds. She's still going and has never had cancer....
