  1. No advice, just HUGS and prayers that you get answers and relief.
  2. I would also suggest you relax about it. Life is meant to be enjoyed. If I get panicky, like if I try a new restaurant or new food at an old restaurant I can feel like I've been glutened. Then I calm myself down and the feeling goes away when the panic goes away. I have to deep breathe sometimes at a restaurant when I start to worry. I know it's easier...
  3. Welcome back! I've been busy too.
  4. Keep gluten free carb starchy type stuff on hand for those times. Betty Crocker has the best mixes for yellow cake, chocolate chip cookies, brownies and chocolate cake. I keep all of them in my pantry for cravings. Gluten Free Pantry basic white bread mix puts Udi's to shame and costs a fraction. It's about $4 for a nice big loaf. You mix it up, rise...
  5. Nobody is judging anyone. I have much better things to do with my time than spend half an hour posting to someone's thread. BUT... as a fellow celiac sufferer who has gone through some serious hell being sick for 40 years, I am going to spend my time to help a person in need because we all have to pull together to deal with this. You can let this disease...
  6. I've found the best bread mix that has seriously changed my life. I don't eat lots of bread type carbs. I find that all heavy carbs make me feel not so great. But when I want bread this one is amazing. It makes a nice big loaf. Doesn't fall apart when you make a sandwich. Has simple ingredients, not a bunch of weird stuff or chemicals. Makes wonderful french...
  7. Well I just can't stop replying to this thread! I'm really wondering why you are still sick after 10 months. Have you gone gluten free with soaps, shampoos and make up? I had a huge improvement when I did this. You just can't keep it out of your mouth with any reliability. Matrix Biolage has some nice shampoo and conditioners that are gluten...
  8. The only other thing I would add, because you are doing everything you need to do, is ask them when eating bread or crumbly items to be careful of flying crumbs. Maybe sit at the other end of the table in that case.
  9. I wanted to add that I have been gluten free for 7 months and have only started feeling well for the past month. I'm still not 100% but I'm about 95% most days. I can't eat tapioca starch so that really limits me on gluten free stuff. If you are 10 months gluten free and still sick you need to look at some other food ingredients as the culprit.
  10. I'm so sorry to hear you are having such a hard time. What I'm wondering is why are you cooking everything you eat? There are so many chain restaurants now that are aware of gluten free. Many offer a gluten free menu or at least a few items. The smaller ones, if you are nice to the owner or manager they will often work with you. Celiac awareness is...
  11. I was diagnosed at 40 after having it my whole life. I was VERY sick with much more than just gastro symptoms. I improved little bits each week gluten free but did not have a completely symptom free day until I was 5 months gluten free. I'm 6 months into it now and feeling great!!!! Don't give up and don't lose hope. Be diligent and get the gluten out of...
  12. It goes away. My theory is that you have so much damage to heal your body needs tons of nutrients so it has raw materials to use to heal the damage. I think it lasted about 3 weeks for me.
  13. Caramel coloring doesn't have gluten but that doesn't mean soda is good for your digestion. Funny thing, since I went gluten free soda tastes like soap to me. Can't drink it at all. The only one I can have is the all natural Hansen's.
  14. Oh and... look at the forums on here for restaurants. Find out which ones near you have gluten free options and memorize them or keep a list in your car. That way when you're hungry you can have a place to eat. Also, go to local restaurants you like when they're not busy and ask the manager to help you figure out what you can eat there. This research is...
  15. Are you sure people don't want to hear about your stuff or are you assuming that? Now of course not every Joe on the street wants to hear it, but your husband, your friends, they are your support. When I first went gluten free I turned to them and gave them the whole sad complicated story. Only one friend was an ass about it and I dumped her for that and...
  16. It says wheat clearly on the labels. Wheat germ oil, wheat protein, etc. I've never seen barley in shampoo but you can look for it. They never say gluten free to cover themselves for lawsuits, but they like to say it has wheat because that's a draw for a lot of people. People worry about tocopherol because technically it can be made from wheat, but...
  17. There is no phone number on their website. I emailed them but that could take awhile. Anybody know if it's gluten free? It says that the spices and natural flavors are extracts so I'm concerned about barley.
  18. When you first go gluten free your body goes a bit wonky as it's healing. I had to cut out a whole bunch of foods- nightshades, soy, dairy, coffee, xanthan gum, tapioca. For awhile EVERYTHING I ate made me sick and I was scared that I was intolerant of a whole bunch of things. I just went to a simple whole foods clean diet and let my body heal. I'm 4 months...
  19. I'm surprised a mod didn't move this post. Put this in the prediagnosis and testing room and you might get a lot more responses. If you get sick from eating wheat, then you can't eat it. Don't buy the you're not allergic line, because I bought that and suffered for a long time unnecessarily. Get tested for celiac. If it comes up negative go gluten free anyways...
  20. You need to get healthy. You have a serious autoimmune disorder and when you get glutened, every single time your immune system causes destuction to your intestines. It's not that it's just making you sick, it's causing wounds inside your organs. Celiac is limiting. It sucks and it's hard and you can scream into your pillow about it. I'll be right there...
  21. The word allergy makes sense to people and it sounds serious to them. I use the word allergy frequently if I need to get my point across at a restaurant or in a social situation. It's quick and it makes sense.
  22. Check your soaps and shampoos. My shampoo and conditioner had wheat in it, my hand soap and lotion, too. It all ends up in your mouth when it runs down your face in the shower, or you have it on your hands and you eat, etc. I was not getting better until I made my beauty products gluten free. I am a beauty product snob and I LOVE my products. I cried over...
  23. I must correct your misinformation here. Anxiety IS most definitely a celiac symptom. I've had celiac undiagnosed my whole life until age 40, and a few months before diagnosis I developed panic attacks for no reason- healthy marriage, secure financially, yet constantly anxious, full blown hyperventilating feeling like I would die attacks. TWO days after going...
  24. Do you think maybe you are just still healing? I would get symptoms when I knew I wasn't glutened because I had cooked all my food. I have a gluten free house too. My kids were glutening me with their crumbs so they are on gluten free stuff in the home.
  25. If you find that brown rice bloats you, then maybe you can go off of it for awhile. Then challenge it and see if that really was the problem. There are people who have trouble with it. Maybe try white rice instead. I know it's no whole grain but it is easier to digest. Rice is in so many gluten free foods, you don't want to eliminate it unless you absolutely...
