ARCHIVED Appetite Changes
sandsurfgirl replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm still pretty high carb on the gluten free diet. I eat rice pasta, rice, corn tortillas, corn chips. I finally found a gluten free bread I can tolerate. I also make pancakes and keep them in the fridge to microwave for the week. Plus all the carbs in fruits and veggies. I would say my carb intake is the same as it was before. For a sweet tooth I make... -
ARCHIVED My New View On Eating Out, Thanks To The People Here
sandsurfgirl replied to BethM55's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Good for you! I eat out a few times per week. My schedule is such that I just need to. I haven't gotten glutened eating out once. Know where I get glutened? From my kids! In my house! I find it easier to eat out than stay safe at home. We are transitioning to a completely gluten free house because of it. Lots of chains do gluten free. Sometimes it... -
It's so frustrating when that happens. You just have to learn all the questions to ask. Unless I know they have a dedicated fryer I don't eat fries out. You can't let celiac isolate you. Lots of chains are going gluten free now. Friends will work with you at their houses or you do the cooking at your house and host the get together.

I think my appetite is adjusting to be more normal and I hope it stays this way. I'm one of the celiacs who gained weight not lost from it. I was told that celiac will make your appetite to high and make you overeat to compensate for lack of nutrition. I have been so hungry for years. I would eat 3 meals, 2 snacks and still be so hungry two hours after dinner...

Welcome to the board! I was diagnosed 3 months ago just after I turned 40. Had this disease my whole life and was misdiagnosed for years. Gluten Free Pantry French bread mix is really good and easy to bake. I sobbed like a baby over Guinness. Haven't tried gluten free beer yet. -

Awesome I was gone from here for a few days and my thread got me all sorts of good pizza tips. Cool! I rested a lot this weekend and it improved my health and my mood. Hopefully it sticks. I love this board. Have I said that lately? -
ARCHIVED I Wasn't Sure What To Say...
sandsurfgirl replied to shepgs's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The chiropractors, etc. shoot themselves in the foot by saying stupid things like that. They ARE doctors, but of their brand of medicine. I swear by my chiropractor. I only see her about once a month or less and she fixes me up beautifully. My bones and muscles. That's it. When they step out of their realm of expertise or think they are gods, that's scary... -

I was trying to think of what to say and this gem is so perfect I can't compliment it by anything I would write. That is a GREAT idea! Shock the crap out of them. I must say that I am getting acupuncture and it does help. But the SIL was wrong. It won't cure. My acupuncturist told me he can't cure me. He said he can make me strong so that accidental... -
Thanks for looking that up. How cool to be in research! Gemini- "vacate the property" I feel like I have a virus or some food poisoning. I hope my theory is totally wrong because what a scary thought that it could do that. I guess there's always accidental glutening. My kids are not gluten free, but I'm very careful about crumbs, etc. Whatever...

Today I'm sick as a dog. Nausea, vomiting, coughing, and feeling weak and tired. I feel like I got glutened but I'm pretty positive I did not. I've seen other people post about this happening to them before and I have a theory. I have also seen people post about gluten being trapped in our bodies, in our intestines, and our brains. So my theory is that...

ARCHIVED Is Low Blood Pressure/being Extremely Cold

Classic hypothyroidism symptoms. If your doctor isn't checking your thyroid with those symptoms, I would say get a new doctor. Those are textbook. The person who posted that the doctor said even if the thyroid is low normal to take thyroid has a BRILLIANT doctor. A doc like that is so hard to find. The ranges for thyroid are far too broad so you can be... -
ARCHIVED Diagnosed With Active Dietary Gluten Sensitivity

It's a lot to take in at first. I was so overwhelmed and sad. I'm on week 11 and even though I still have my struggles, it does get better everyday. Welcome to the club you never wanted to join! This is a fine group of people and you will get a lot of support here. -
ARCHIVED Coped, But Not Faced
sandsurfgirl replied to tictax707's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I started the grieving process right away and I'm still working through it. It's like a death in a way because you have big losses. For me it's not really the foods that are hard to take. I can make most things gluten free. It's the experiences. The quaint little pizza place with the outdoor cafe that I can't go to anymore. Or being able to be spontaneous... -

Whoa your ferritin and iron are really low. Wolicki on here can give you advice about that. She couldn't tolerate the pills and had iron transfusions. Low ferritin and low iron seem to be common with celiacs from what I read on here. I'm waiting for my results to see if mine are low. Cobblestone doesn't sound normal to me on the biopsy. If you want further... -
I agree that you might go to the doc. My kids have had those types of symptoms when they had a stomache virus. Are there other symptoms that might point to a virus? Although there's nothing for the docs to do, they can at least monitor you for dehydration.

ARCHIVED Not Doing Well Emotionally
sandsurfgirl replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Oh my gosh you guys, I am so touched by all of your help and kind words. I have tears in my eyes right now. The spoons story is exactly how it feels isn't it? She nailed it. That was inspired. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I thought so much about what all of you have said and today was such a better day, not because my body was feeling perfect... -

I think I need to make that my motto. Tire the kids out and keep them alive. -
ARCHIVED Not Doing Well Emotionally

I haven't been praying enough about it either, which then makes me feel like a failure. But I know that's dumb because God doesn't see me that way. I'm going to make a list of prayers and tape them on the bathroom mirror so I don't forget. I get caught up in my pity party, or I've been escaping by reading novels, watching movies or going online, which... -

sandsurfgirl replied to yogatwinmom's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
There is no way I would do an 8 week gluten challenge. Not worth it to me. Maybe challenge it once or twice to make sure, but if you have any reaction whatsoever, then there's your answer. Celiac, gluten intolerance, who cares? If gluten makes you sick, you should not eat it. Period. I think it's barbaric that doctors ask patients to do that. The minute... -
ARCHIVED Not Doing Well Emotionally

Thanks Jenny. Sometimes it's hard to know when it's the fatigue making me not want to do things and when it's depression, ya know? It's been 11 weeks now and I feel like why am I not just full of energy and doing great? Even though I know that it can take longer than that. I've had this my whole life undiagnosed, so I have to remember that healing... -
I'm feeling better physically. I do have a cold right now, and I'm fatigued. Waiting on thyroid and vitamin, iron levels etc. to see if one of those is the culprit. But, I am struggling emotionally. I know it's a grieving process, but it's very hard at times. The sadness over all the stuff I've lost in life because of celiac is overwhelming at times. ...

If it's really bad, a plain old water enema can help. -
That's what I was going to say. If you are eating one meal a day you are jacking your metabolism and you might not be able to fix the damage later. You need to be eating every 2 or 3 hours and keep your blood sugar balanced. I love the Bodybugg. You can buy it online. It's a sensor you wear on your arm that monitors calories burned, steps taken and cardio...

The employees I spoke with were so knowledgable. I called to ask about the gluten-free menu first before I talked with my DH and ordered. The girl said "We take this very seriously. When we type in gluten free, there is a special notice that comes up with instructions for the cooks in the back. All of us are trained to deal with the gluten free menu." When...
