ARCHIVED Allergy/ Celiac Alert tags
kareng replied to kareng's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Unlike the bracelets of various types, people would see these better. Like at the neighborhood BBQ - keep someone from handing the 5 year old a cookie. Remind the moms at the preschool class party, etc -
ARCHIVED favorite gluten free bread mix
kareng replied to thegirlsmom's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I am guessing you didn't want to know about crackers? Lol. I get my bread from a local gluten-free bakery, so I haven't tried these. I have lots of friends in other parts of the country that really like Jules .shepard's mixes. Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Allergy/ Celiac Alert tags
kareng posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I see parents, from time to time, wanting to know if there is a way to alert others ( school, day camp, baby sitting at the gym, etc) to allergies or Celiac. These are inexpensive and highly visible. Would be especially good for small kids. Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Why don't I ever feel good......... EVER.
kareng replied to All-Natural's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I would make sure that you don't have a completely different medical issue. Not everything is because of Celiac. -
ARCHIVED Suspect Celiac, no medical access, options?
kareng replied to firewrangler's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Oh... Have you been gluten free for a while? The tests don't work if you haven't been consistently eating a gluten containing diet. It's usually recommended from 6-8 weeks. It's possible, if you had a really high number of antibodies, that they would still be there, but I wouldn't base my diagnosis on it. -
ARCHIVED Suspect Celiac, no medical access, options?
kareng replied to firewrangler's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Depends on your state....you may be able to just walk into a blood draw place, like a Quest diagnostics, and order it yourself. Just be prepared to pay at the time of the blood draw, if you have no insurance. Other states, you might have luck at one of those walk- in clinics. You might have to call around and see. -
ARCHIVED Gluten In Root Beer?
kareng replied to Adare's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That is not really root beer! That is an alcoholic malt beverage, This thread is about the soda pop -
ARCHIVED Secret Deodorant
kareng replied to DutchGirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I never worry about deodorant. The only things you really need to worry about are things that might get in your mouth. I get shampoo in my mouth so I read the ingredients. They will say if they have wheat germ oil in them. Open Original Shared Link "Gluten must be ingested to be cause for concern for someone with celiac disease... -
ARCHIVED Anti-Anxiety Medications
kareng replied to kgderogatis's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Very few medications actually contain gluten. I know that GI issues - nausea, diarrhea or constipation, etc can be side effects of many medications. Maybe talk to your psychiatrist about the best way to take the med to reduce those issues? Or try you on another one?- 4 replies

ARCHIVED Keurig K-Cups
kareng replied to MaggyMay's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That's good... Sort of.... Not good about the health issues, but good to know the docs aren't taking it lightly. There are refillable k cups. You could grind your own coffee and use them, if you thought that might help. -
ARCHIVED Keurig K-Cups
kareng replied to MaggyMay's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Sorry, I know you didn't ask for info on refractory but I am worried that your GI does not know much about Celiac. I would hate for you to have to have the massive amounts of steroids, even Chemo, that will be prescribed for refractory Celiac. If you haven't even had a repeat endoscopy, and he is just diagnosing based on a slightly elevated ttg (which... -
ARCHIVED Keurig K-Cups
kareng replied to MaggyMay's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Envelope glue is another internet myth. You didn't mention that you had had repeat endoscopies showing continued villa damage. (That is how refractory is diagnosed)That is completely different than a bit elevated tTg . True refractory is pretty rare. As you can see from my links, a slightly elevated tTg may have nothing to do with gluten ingestion... -
ARCHIVED Keurig K-Cups
kareng replied to MaggyMay's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Glue isn't usually made with wheat, that seems to be an Internet myth. Using wheat based glue for something that gets hot and wet, doesn't really make any sense as wheat is solvable with hot liquid. Maybe your tTg is elevated for another reason? Open Original Shared Link After going gluten-free, can a positive tTG mean anything... -
ARCHIVED Have any of you had to get an attorney to intervene with a situation?
kareng replied to Zachm's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Sorry. I wasn't clear & have some typing issues, apparently. lol You said you were having issues and thought you might have Colitits. If you have something else, along with the Celiac, you should take care of that, too. -
ARCHIVED Have any of you had to get an attorney to intervene with a situation?
kareng replied to Zachm's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
You can't expect a school to accomadatte a disease you think you might have! It does sound like you might have another problem, but if you don't treat it, it's not the schools fault. -
ARCHIVED Have any of you had to get an attorney to intervene with a situation?
kareng replied to Zachm's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
The good news is that, you have been gluten-free for at least 6 months. You should be much better. And a few more months and you should be doing quite well. -
ARCHIVED does your diet have to be like a perfection?
kareng replied to Churpy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I think you need to watch where you get your medical info! Of course you can't introduce gluten back in. And of course you have to be strictly gluten-free and not intentionally eat gluten. "The gluten-free diet is a lifetime requirement. Eating any gluten, no matter how small an amount, can damage your intestine. This is true for anyone with... -
ARCHIVED Advice on reintroducing dairy.
kareng replied to Chibiehotaru's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Sheep and goat's milk still contain lactose, if that is the issue. -

I don't think any of their food was " certified" gluten-free? -
Some artificial sweeteners give me a stomach ache/bloating. some do not. Its pretty immediate. I have never heard of a food intolerance that manifests like the flu or a virus. Maybe your bars were bad/food poisoning?

I have had one or two and was fine. I don't have an issue with dairy. If I remember right, most smoothies are gluten-free.

ARCHIVED Is Jello O.k. To Eat?
kareng replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You are responding to something from 2004. I eat Jello with no issues. Kraft has stated that they will label gluten ingredients in a clear manner. And , ingredients could change, so the most up to date listing is on the package, So telling you to read the ingredients is the proper suggestion. -
