The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
kareng replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I used this recipe. I used frozen peas instead of canned. I used jalapenos for the marinade and salsa and it wasn't hot. But a great flavor. http://abc.go.com/shows/the-chew/recipes/jerk-pork-with-pineapple-salsa-and-coconut-rice-roble-ali -

"The U.S. Food and Drug Administration today released a proposed rule to establish requirements for fermented and hydrolyzed foods, or foods that contain fermented or hydrolyzed ingredients, and bear the “gluten-free” claim. The proposed rule, titled “Gluten-Free Labeling of Fermented or Hydrolyzed Foods,” pertains to foods such as yogurt, sauerkraut, pickle...

Heart problems
kareng replied to Kittydanger's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sorry. That isn't my point. I just wanted to make sure that, if the doctor says " your antibodies are negative. No Celiac", that you understand you may actually have Celiac. Unfortunately, I have seen a lot of docs that have no knowledge of Celiac. -
Heart problems
kareng replied to Kittydanger's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
A skin prick won't tell you if you have Celiac. And I have seen a lot of evidence that they aren't very good at diagnosing food allergies, either. But I don't really keep up with that. -
ARCHIVED quinoa milk?

a lot of these products are carrageenan free Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Some of our products contain carrageenan, a thickening agent that is extracted from seaweed. All of the carrageenan we use is undegraded or nondegraded which has been proven to not cause any adverse health effects. -
glutamate is not gluten. MSG does not contain gluten but it does seem to bother a lot of people - even non-Celiacs.

Heart problems
kareng replied to Kittydanger's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Just a reminder that they can't test you for Celiac because you have been gluten-free for so long. The blood tests look for the presence of antibodies. You aren't making the antibodies if you aren't eating gluten for a prolonged period of time. The endoscopic biopsy looks for Celiac damage to the small intestine. Hopefully, being gluten free stops the... -
Does Anyone Know How To Kill Or "inactivate" Gluten?
kareng replied to mamaupupup's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
There are many internet stories about a mythical toothpaste that contains gluten. Never actually seen it. All the major brands do not contain gluten. -

They also make that cheese with blueberries! Sooooooo yummy. But hard to find. Must be a very limited supply as our store is always trying to get it and it's often unavailable. tonight we are grilling some steaks and veggie kabobs ( red onion, red pepper, potatoes and pineapple marinated in teriyaki and some of the pineapple... -

kareng replied to kleggy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Just to clarify - the IgA is not a genetic test. The HLA tests are the genetic ones of some type Open Original Shared Link -

IT LOOKS LIKE, if I go to the top and change from "browse" to "activity" then choose "all" I can get what I want. This seems to have to be done each time you ant to see the list. So if you respond to one, you have to do this again.

That's lovely. I did it. But there is no way to just get to these posts. All the posts that have been made in the last day or two. That was what I had the "new content" "button" set to. I could hit it and see the list of all the current discussions/threads.
-
But I think it was there yesterday? I like the "new content " so I can see all the recent posts, even if I read them. I don't see why we should make it harder and with more steps to do what was available a few minutes ago. adding- its not on the PC any longer either. I know it was there yesterday

There was a place that said " new content" I could click. But it's not there now on the iPad. Odd

ARCHIVED Cross-contamination of vegetables from local farm?!
kareng replied to WineandCupcakes's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
They will harvest and plow the rye under before planting anything else. Even if some seed are left on the soil or under the soil, they shouldn't be an issue. Just wash your potatoes or corn or whatever. -
ARCHIVED How glutenized do you need to be for a cyrex test
kareng replied to 3nanest's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I guess you could ask that company? I have no clue what test they did. Most of their tests are not considered legitimate. There are no currently medically recognized tests for food intolerances. I don't think they do the medical Celiac blood panel? For the medically accepted tests, you must be eating gluten for many weeks before they work. Open Original...- 1 reply

ARCHIVED Tooth brushes and toothpastes
kareng replied to iBelieve's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have to say the " dusting the toothpaste tube" is a new one! Lol. Where do these ideas come from? And I can understand the confusion on vinegar or alcohol. Many people don't understand distillation and fermentation. -
ARCHIVED Gluten-free and Corn-free Chocolate!!!
kareng replied to Ender's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I am thinking its a bit soon to blame the molecule of corn that might not even be in the chocolate. I don't know your whole history or if you have Celiac or how long you have been gluten-free, but, it seems more likely its chocolate or a stated ingredient that bothered you. Or something else you ate or just a messed up gut that can't tolerate the sugar... -

ARCHIVED Allergic Reaction To Crisco???
kareng replied to Mitchie K's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am not sure what you mean by an "allergic reaction"? That wouldn't have anything to do with Celiac disease. I have used Crisco with no Celiac issues. I had to throw out my old can when I was diagnosed because we used it to grease cookie sheets and it had crumbs in it. -
ARCHIVED See's Candy, gluten-free but had BAD reaction
kareng replied to KW's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I have been eating 3 different See's Candies this week with no issue. -
ARCHIVED Help! No period after eating gluten free
kareng replied to Sassy1981's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I can't tell from your post if you went gluten-free for medical reasons like Celiac or just "because". For women with Celiac, they usually recommend you wait a few months until your antibodies are normal. There seems to be some evidence that the antibodies may attack the placenta or baby. Also, you would want to get the vitamin levels to normal first.... -
ARCHIVED Concerned About Low Weight And Getting Pregnancy
kareng replied to GIJane's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
first, you are replying to someone who posted in 2006, so it's unlikely you will get a response. the birth control pill, of course, " kills your cycles". That's what keeps you from getting pregnant.
