  1. Most likely it was safe. I would have checked what kind it was. Really the only juice I have seen with a possibility of gluten are those greenish ones made with wheat/ barley grass. Not likely to be at a wedding. Plain juice .... I don't check.
  2. If you think I am aggressive or snarky, fine. Sometimes I am. In this case, I just wanted to be as firm as possible. I didn't feel I should say " Sweetie, whatever you think is best." I am responding to a poster who wants to do something dangerous & to people reading this thread that may have that as a legitimate question. I was nicer than I would...
  3. A little info to back up what I am saying: Open Original Shared Link "Genetic testing The genetic test will show if the genes necessary to develop the disease are present. This test is also good to rule out the disease. It can also be used to indicate the need for antibody testing every 3 years or immediately if symptoms appear. Genetic testing may be...
  4. Actually, this isn't quite true. If a child has Celiac, then a parent might have at least 1 gene for celiac. There are 2 parents and a gene can come from either or both. And, just because you have a Celiac gene does not mean you will get Celiac disease. About 30% of people carry at least 1 gene for Celiac.
  5. celiac awareness day at the Phillies Open Original Shared Link
  6. Last night, I had a Margharita pizza at California Pizza Kitchen! Yum! And maybe a little wine......
  7. To people looking for actual dinner ideas - look back a page or 2. We have a hard time always staying on track. Chime in any time about food, recipes, bathtub wine holders, creepy old guys in boxers, etc.
  8. Around here, he would be taken in as a sex offender! And probably breaking some Home Owners Assoc and city esthetic rules.
  9. Not to have you spend your life worrying about it. But to let you tell your eye doctor and keep an eye out for it. There are better and better treatments for it. If you get it, you may be able to fix it before it gets bad.
  10. More like a "real Housewives of" but without the fake fights.
  11. That's funny. Around here, it would be weird for a grown-up to be drinking Koolaid! No one would notice the boxers (I hope boxers?) as they would be horrified about the Koolaid. Here it would be a travel coffee mug or Starbucks cup with coffee and a shot or wine. I had a neighbor who looked nice in her flimsy sleep attire. She would put the dog out...
  12. Off topic, I know - did you get the " toast it " brand? They are plenty big and work great. But very hot when you take them out of the toaster. So have a hot pad or a couple of napkins ready. Now..... Back to Dr F and his book....
  13. Could you please link to your scientific evidence that Celiac disease is more than 1 disease? That the rules of autoimmune disease do not apply? I am sorry but you seem to be hoping someone will tell you that you are "cured" and can eat gluten again. Currently, there is no "cure".
  14. I am a little confused on what tests were actually done. If she doesn't have the Celiac genes, it isn't likely she has Celiac. She could have some sort of food or gluten sensitivity/intolerance. Unfortunately, there are no reliable tests for that at this time. The best way to figure that out is by keeping track of what she eats & eliminating or adding...
  15. My insurance allows us to go to whatever type of doctor we need. Not sure what yours allows. Is this doc teachable? My main doc lets me show her stuff from places like the Univ of Chicago and then she will go with it.
  16. I think I have mentioned before, Hubs hates with a passion, mayo. He was happily eating something and saying how yummy it was - until - SIL mentioned the ingredients & 1 was mayo. He immediately stopped eating and said it tasted terrible. Looks like I could make the chicken salad with Greek yogurt from that recipe. Just want something a little different...
  17. Anyone make chicken salad with Greek yogurt instead of evil mayo? Saw a nice recipe on the Chew today but mayo isn't allowed in our home.
  18. We can't gain weight by looking! Can we????
  19. Maybe its not gluten? Maybe his rash is caused by something else?
  20. I think I did say that if it would get in your mouth it needs to be gluten-free and that I get shampoo in my mouth. I am as bad as an 8 year old, I guess. The real point is that gluten has to be in the intestines.
  21. In the past, I have started threads with all salad recipes or all cookies. The problem is that the posts all fall to the bottom after they aren't posted in. Then someone starts a new thread. It might be nice to have recipes, but wouldn't it need to be organized - like a thread for salad, a thread for entrees, etc? We could "pin" them so they stay at the...
  22. You know what? I know 2 people with Celiac that tried not eating gluten-free. I don't think I can get them to make an account and post - both college kids. They aren't my kids but friends of my kids. The boy/young man - Diagnosed & went gluten-free. Parents supportive, etc. Did great, felt great, lost some needed weight, migraines gone, acne...
  23. It is your health, so do what you want with it. But , celiac is a distinct disease. If you have been reading legit medical studies, you find that no one has really been " cured". Many of us have seen people that have gone back on gluten after feeling better and come back here after a couple of years, sicker than ever. That is our experience and info that...
  24. You can't get a celiac reaction from skin contact. You have to get the gluten into the intestines. So,,,,if it might get into your mouth, it should be gluten-free. Shampoo might get swallowed by some people. I just look for ingredients like wheat germ oil and avoid those because , even tho I am an adult, I get shampoo in my mouth.
