ARCHIVED Jimmy Kimmel Proves People Who Are Gluten-Free Don't Know What Gluten Is - Omaha World-Herald
kareng replied to Scott Adams's topic in Publications & Publicity
Can we ask them to brush their teeth first? I know I can't get glutened by them kissing my ass, but I just don't like the idea of gluten on my skin..... -

ARCHIVED Is Newsprint Paper Gluten Free (For Eating)?
kareng replied to lily-b's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You work for the printing company, so you should be able to find out the name of the company that makes the ink. Call them and ask what it is made of. I thought I heard it is soy based....but don't take my word for that. I'm not at all sure. You should be able to see the ingredients in the OSHA papers/notebook. They have those sheets, I can't remember the... -

ARCHIVED Going To Dinner With My Boyfriend's Family.. I Have No Idea What To Do..
kareng replied to supersquatchy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Tell the boyfriend you will eat first and have a soda at the restaurant. Have him explain to his mom that, with your allergies, you don't feel like you can eat there. It's about the BF and he would want his gluten-free there. Your not eating doesn't have to be a big deal if you don't make it one. Act as if this is normal. If someone asks, say you aren... -
ARCHIVED Gluten/sweetener Free Cold Medication?
kareng replied to Waitingindreams's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Open Original Shared Link I don't worry about the teeny tiny amount of fake sugar that might be in a coating on a pill. You could probably wash a bit of it off and take it. -

Celiac isn't caused by a virus. Your problem is caused by an infection or virus...... So I don't see any link. -
ARCHIVED Post-Surgery Food
kareng replied to snowmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I don't think I have seen any popsicles with gluten. If that helps. Is there some kind of juice or Koolaid type thing she would drink? That would be easier to bring and keep with you. I am worried someone else might get something you put in the fridge. -
ARCHIVED How Do You Emotionally Deal With Setbacks?
kareng replied to icelandgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
What foods don't work for you might be fine for me. I don't think a copyrighted list of foods can tell everyone what they can or can't eat. -
ARCHIVED Gas-X Causing Severe Bloating?
kareng replied to Waitingindreams's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Good point! Some of those artificial sweeteners give me bloating, etc. Fortunately, for me, the amount in 1 or 2 pills or a small amount of toothpaste isn't enough to cause me issues. -
ARCHIVED Vlasic Pickles
kareng replied to Becci's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have never seen a pickle with gluten. Sorry that pickles bother you. I find that some days vinegar is a bit harsh on my stomach. Perhaps that was the problem? -
Well... You are just trying to be contrary but I will give an answer for others that might want to know - we cite the Univ of Chicago Celiac center because they have the easiest site to link to. They answer questions in an easy to understand manner. They are celiac researchers and have many published studies. They work with other researchers throughout...

kareng replied to motheroftwins2010's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You don't want to wear it because you will be busy and might break it. But it will look lovely draped decoratively over the picture frames of pictures of the kids high on the mantle. Let the kids decorate their own photo with it. Or decorate a house plant with them. You get the idea. You can look at them and enjoy them. It won't cc your house. Or put... -
ARCHIVED How Do You Emotionally Deal With Setbacks?
kareng replied to icelandgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This isn't meant to be discouraging. Its just a sort of explanation/example that might help you accept and find what works for you. Even after more than 4 years, I find that I have a "delicate" digestive system. If I eat differently from "normal" for a period of time, I have some issues. For instance, when I go on a trip, I might eat more sandwiches... -

ARCHIVED Is There Anything Safe To Eat At Ice Cream Or Frozen Yogurt Shops?
kareng replied to HavaneseMom's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
TCBY has soft serve that is gluten-free. The website lists which are, but I noticed that the couple they say aren't gluten-free have no gluten ingredients. It is the flavors like birthday cake they say aren't gluten-free. However, they look gluten-free. There is no actual cake in them. I get TCBY and Dairy Queen. I don't do the scooped stuff because... -
There is nothing to " flush" gluten out. It just goes out with the garbage like any other food waste. Gluten molecules don't float around and hide in the body. Read around. If you truly are diagnosed with DH, many find a low iodine diet helps. Doctors will prescribe Dapsone ( spelling?) for those diagnosed with DH to use for a while. Many find it very...

ARCHIVED Celiac Diagnosis Difficulties
kareng replied to Milkay's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
They are not the only Celiac researchers saying this. They just have the easiest way to link people here to the info. As of the International Celiac Disease Symposium in September, which I attended, this " cross- reactivity" theory is still not considered valid. The fact is, most Celiacs do fine with dairy, coffee, whatever you want to claim " cross-... -
ARCHIVED What Is The Circle With "gluten-free" Inside On Food Products?
kareng replied to GluFree4Me's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
First, there is no way to test for 0 ppm of gluten. If a food tests at <20 ppm, that does not mean it has 19 ppm. It may have 10 or 1 or 0, those are all less than 0. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link -
I thought you were diagnosed with Celiac disease? The weight lose should just be a happy side effect of eating gluten-free for your Celiac disease health. But, I guess if weight lose is what motivates you to stay gluten-free....Ok.... I just worry you won't care about your weight one day or decide it is OK to gain a little , and start eating a bit of gluten...
