ARCHIVED Genetic Factors And Triggers
kareng replied to NoGlutenCooties's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I did hear a MD in genetics talk about this research. It is very hard to understand. That is why websites like the U of C condense it down, interpret it and make it easy to understand. A reputable medical research center doesn't just make this stuff up as you are implying. -
ARCHIVED Cc From A Teflon Pan?
kareng replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Just to be clear - the poster is NOT talking about celiac disease cc. Perhaps a histamine forum would be a good place to ask this? I have no clue if veggies leave a residue. Isn't the high histamine foods about eating smaller amounts but not completely eliminating? Like I said.... I don't really know and maybe people who deal with this more would... -
ARCHIVED Genetic Factors And Triggers
kareng replied to NoGlutenCooties's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm sorry? I'm not understanding or missing something. It says the same thing dr. Fassano was saying. And the same thing several other doctors said at ICDS but I don't have that in writing on the Internet to show you. -

ARCHIVED Genetic Factors And Triggers
kareng replied to NoGlutenCooties's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You know.... A lot of people say a lot of things on here. When it comes to medical/ scientific info, I'll let Fasano & company be the ones I believe. It is possible someone has a poorly done genetic test? I don't have any stats or links for that. I have heard that some places may do a better job of reading genetic tests than others. That was from... -
ARCHIVED Ttg Iga Down! But Still Having Issues...
kareng replied to C-Girl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Congrats on getting the blood work down so well! Have they done a stool test to look for parasites? You could just try the simple plain diet you are on for a few weeks and see if that helps. Maybe add cooked sweet potato? Give it a couple of weeks before you decide. Edit- I just looked at your post again. It's just been since Nov? That really is... -
ARCHIVED Is A Gi That Specializes In Celiac Necessary If Not Seeking Diagnosis?
kareng replied to CaliSparrow's topic in Doctors
There is no need to get any follow up for celiac except blood tests. If blood tests remain positive, they might want to re- endoscopy. A colonoscopy has nothing to do with Celiac. Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Genetic Factors And Triggers
kareng replied to NoGlutenCooties's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Actually, when I heard Dr. G & Dr. F and a few others - I know at least 2 mentioned a trigger. It mentions it on Univ of Chicago's site, too. That isn't really new nor is the gene thing. -
ARCHIVED Genetic Factors And Triggers
kareng replied to NoGlutenCooties's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You aren't telling them they don't have Celiac - the Celiac specialists are. However, like I just commented to you on another thread - this is getting off topic (tho less so on this thread). You should make a new topic and you can share the info you have about gene studies on Celiac. Some of them are a bit difficult to read, but I did hear a Celiac... -

What kid, outside of a bubble, hasn't gotten exposed to a stomach virus or something that disrupts their system? Actually, a bubble kid would have been exposed to things at birth. So there goes that theory! Open Original Shared Link And we have gone way off topic here. If you would like to start a thread and link to the studies you are... -
ARCHIVED Is A Gi That Specializes In Celiac Necessary If Not Seeking Diagnosis?
kareng replied to CaliSparrow's topic in Doctors
I don't know why someone without Celiac would need a Celiac specialist to get a colonoscopy for polyps. Even a Celiac doesn't need a Celiac specialist to get a colonoscopy to check for cancerous colon polyps. -
ARCHIVED How Long Do I Have To Gluten-Load Before A Test?
kareng replied to ladolcevita's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
No one can really say. Lots of people still have high antibodies after a few months gluten-free. Its hard to know how your body is reacting. Open Original Shared Link -

ARCHIVED Could This Be Celiac?--12 Year Old Boy
kareng replied to pkujayhawk's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
How long was he gluten free before the Celiac test? This is important as 2 days isn't considered enough time to eat gluten before a test. It is still possible to get a positive test if he had a lot of antibodies in his blood but it could make a negative results useless. And "food sensitivity" tests.... I wouldn't take him off foods because of those. ... -
ARCHIVED Can You Be 'only' Gluten Sensitive But Still Have Anemia?
kareng replied to ClevelandRocks's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
As I tried to explain on another thread - there likely are many reasons for NCGI. Researchers are still looking into this. So you would need to know why you are intolerant to wheat or gluten or FODMAPS, etc before you can really answer some of these issues. IF you know a food bothers you, don't eat it. -

Open Original Shared Link "What is a gluten challenge? A gluten challenge is the period of time when gluten is added back into a person’s diet to assist in the diagnosis of celiac disease. Antibodies take time to build into the blood stream before they can be detected through blood analysis. For a gluten challenge we recommend eating 1/2 slice o... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Disease Or Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity?
kareng replied to CaliSparrow's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I think some of this depends on why you are NCGI. Researchers are currently looking at lots of different reasons for it. A big one they have found is FODMAPS. Because wheat is a high FODMAP food, eliminating it makes many people's GI symptoms better. These people can actually eat wheat but they must balance it with other high FODMAP foods. So, for these... -
ARCHIVED Genetic Factors And Triggers
kareng replied to NoGlutenCooties's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
At ICDS, they were looking at several different reasons for NCGI. Some may be reacting to a different part of wheat than a Celiac. Many they have found have FODMAP issues. Because wheat is a high FODMAP food, eliminating it helps many peoples' digestive issues. These people aren't really NCGI as they could eat a little wheat - they just have to balance... -

Then a lot of Celiac researchers in many countries are wrong. I think we have to go with the current legitimate research. -
ARCHIVED Genetic Factors And Triggers
kareng replied to NoGlutenCooties's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There are also members that say they have Celiac but have no real medical diagnosis. We don't check medical records before people come on here. We just try to repeat what the Celiac researchers are saying now. Research is on-going so, what is the current info, may change over the years. Some of us try to keep informed by reading articles and... -
ARCHIVED Can You Be 'only' Gluten Sensitive But Still Have Anemia?

ARCHIVED Would You Report A Doctor Who Misdiagnosed You?
kareng replied to veryami1's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I asked if you had looked into what it took to "report" a doctor because, this isn't really "reportable". You weren't harmed in any serious way. Having dealt with how these processes work - hospital and AMA/State Board censoring of Doctors over the years, it doesn't seem bad enough to get into the process. The process can take a couple of years, etc. ...
