ARCHIVED Isn't Baking Soda And Powder Gluten Free?
kareng replied to Bellamia's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am not sure what you are implying here? Modified food starch does not contain gluten. If it did, it would say something like " modified wheat starch". Never seen a baking soda or powder with gluten. Please remember that the original posts are many years old. -
ARCHIVED Fecal Transparent Cure For Celiac Disease?
kareng replied to mikeypick1's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I haven't read the specifics but I don't see how it could " cure" Celiac. Celiac is an autoimmune disease and good germs in your intestines won't change that. It may be that it helps get everything back to a normal & happy flora so you feel better and heal the intestines. Went back and looked at the article again. Looks like some docs are making... -
ARCHIVED Lizards As Pets?

The OP posted this about 3 years ago and hasn't been back in almost that long. -
ARCHIVED Butterfinger?
kareng replied to Nantzie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Just an FYI - this is a thread from 2007. Products change overtime. I think Butterfinger is considered gluten free last I looked. Open Original Shared Link -
Oh! I get it. I don't think it matters unless you are repeating yourself or being really obnoxious or selling things or not following the basic rules.

Being allergic to yeast doesn't mean you have to eat gluten free. You might want to google recipes for yeast free things - you could use baking soda or baking powder to help things like cookies & cakes rise. Might be harder to get good bread.

ARCHIVED Is An Endoscopy Really Necessary?
kareng replied to NurseSati's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I don't understand the parent comment. You are a grown-up with your own insurance, so I think it is really your choice. I wish your parents would have gotten themselves tested before going gluten-free. Any doctor can do the f/ up blood test - just re- testing to se if the antibodies are coming down. You don't need a GI for that. You might want to read... -
ARCHIVED In Tears: Bad Doctor Saga Part 2
kareng replied to C-Girl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Maybe dr 1 would give you a referral? Send your records to dr 2? Tell them it's just closer to dr 2 so you would like to change? Maybe if dr 2 knows it's ok with 1? -
ARCHIVED Celiac Coolking Regular For Whole Family
kareng replied to peter/southland's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Gluten can't be " killed" so regular soap is fine. It just needs to be washed off. Soap helps stuff like germs and dirt (like gluten ) slide off of skin or your car or dishes or whatever is dirty. There is a big technical explanation, but the simple one is that soap and rubbing and rinsing gets gluten off. Open Original Shared Link "It can do these... -
FruitE- I am the first person to tell people to suck it up and fix the issue. Even I didn't think you sounded like you were playing a victim in that post. Sounded like you were trying to handle your problems. Not sure if that poster even read your post.

Do you have a California Pizza Kitchen? They have implemented very good procedures to insure that a gluten-free pizza is gluten-free. They only have about 4 kinds in order to keep the toppings un contaminated.

Please provide some real scientific basis for this statement of fact - "it can happen if you do not consume that food for a period of time." Also, please explain how a a person is a "trained professional in gluten awareness,". Is that a med school field?

We should ask if the OP is in the US? I think I have heard that Dominos has a real gluten-free pizza in other countries. However, in the US, it is not for Celiacs. It is possible that your particular Dominos uses fresh ingredients and utensils, etc but that is not the corporate procedure.

ARCHIVED Anyone Get A Fever When Glutened?
kareng replied to kb27's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I would think he caught a bug from all those germ carriers sometimes called " kids". Fever isn't usually a symptom of glutening. This isn't very scientific, but I have seen where it appears to happen occasionally in younger kids. -
By its very nature, this is a discussion/ help forum. Therefore, people assume a poster would want a bit of advice that might help them. Looking back at many of your previous threads, I see that advice/ help was not really your reason for posting any of them. I should have known better but newer posters haven't seen these previous threads. Perhaps the...

I can understand that! I have cookbooks and only use 1 recipe out of them. I copy the recipe and put it in a sheet protector and stick it in a binder. Much easier to find the recipe than trying to remember which book it's in. For a while, I had a bad grocery store check- out cookbook habit. I must have 30 of those little things.

But you are on the Celiac Forum! Not a multiple food intolerance forum. The " other food Intolerance" section is for people with a gluten issue, to use for help with other foods they might have an issue with. Of course it is assumed you or a family member are gluten intolerant in some fashion. People made suggestions to help you because this is a discussion...

ARCHIVED Enterolabs Genetics What Does This Mean?
kareng replied to sandree's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Currently, there is no cure for celiac disease. There is a very successful treatment - a gluten free diet. Internet " doctors" or other "medical" practitioners that tell you otherwise are just trying to sell you things. Some people may feel better and even tolerate gluten for a short time, but the damage is still being done. There are legitimate research... -
So..... No one at your house needs to be gluten-free? So much for the soft pretzels.... You have been hanging around this site for a long time, so I know you know this, but, Ok.., NCGI. - non- celiac gluten intoerant.

This is simple but my kids like it: Frozen green beans ( petite or whole best). Boil but leave crisp. Drain. Put a little olive oil in the hot pan and put back on the hot, but turned off burner. Put in beans and toss with a little gluten-free teriyaki sauce. My family just likes plain carrot or celery sticks or sliced apples, pineapple, fruit...
