ARCHIVED Celiac Without Many Digestvie Issues?
kareng replied to mom2allison's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Wow! Don't know what to say to that diagnosing from a forum question. I guess those are some things your doctor could look at. Back to the original question. Celiac doesn't have to be a "stomach" issue. But it sounds to me like she does have GI issues -pain, gas, etc Open Original Shared Link- 28 replies

Yes. They are a large company that many places send blood to for Celiac tests.

Quest Diagnostics has a commercial I just saw on TV. Open Original Shared Link Go down to the bottom and watch the commercial. Silly little green smilies. Wonder if they got that from this one that gets a lot of use on here: Open Original Shared Link or Open Original Shared Link

ARCHIVED Venting About Lazy In-Laws
kareng replied to ljgs's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Really.... would you want her cutting the Udi's bagels with the same knife, in the crumbs from the regular bagels? Toasting them in the same toaster? I think you should just realize that they can't have safe food for her. Maybe that is what they are afraid of? Hurting her? Or confused, because they don't really cook? I do not expect people who invite... -

Sure, it's possible to get gluten from a toy. Its probably a rather small issue , in my mind. Maybe they could have all the kids wash their hands after eating? Would keep sticky fingers from getting toys sticky - so it has a benefit for the workers as well as for you. -
I don't think starting menopause at 47 is really early. Seems about normal.

ARCHIVED gluten-free Hamburger Bun Idea- Think Outside The Bun!
kareng replied to LauraTX's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Maybe you could make one with hash brown cut potatoes? Use a little egg & rice flour for the glue? Like a latke? Or left over mashed potatoes with the egg and the flour? -
I was extremely anemic. Taking the iron correctly is important. Follow the directions. Take with vitamin C or juice. It needs to be the only thing in your stomach for a period of time. Never eat or take calcium or another medication with it. You need B12 to help your system use the iron properly. Get the sublingual B12 - it bypasses the intestines.

ARCHIVED My Eyes Shake When I Go Over Bumps In The Car.
kareng replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Looks like it's talking about colds and flu. Look...if you are really seeing some sudden and drastic changes in your eyes, this isn't the best place to get your info. You seem to feel they are serious. You really should get to the eye doctor immediately. Besides it being an eye issue, eye changes can be related to other, some very serious, health concerns... -

Sorry to tell you, we are just getting older. "Eye color also can change with age. This happens in 10 to 15 percent of the Caucasian population (people who generally have lighter eye colors). For instance, my once very brown eyes are now hazel, a combination of brown and green. However, some hazel eyes actually get darker with age." Open Original... -

kareng replied to kimis's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I and other Celiacs drink distilled alcohol with no issues. Same with pickles ( eat pickles, not drink them) This has a nice explanation of how distillation works. Go down to number 2. https://www.celiac.com/articles/23350/1/Common-Misunderstandings-of-Gluten-Free-Alcoholic-Beverages/Page1.html -

ARCHIVED Could This Be Celiac/gluten Intolerance? Please Help!
kareng replied to KLH123's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
OK. Just checking. As you probably know - Celiac disease/gluten free is one of the ways some people with EDs use to further limit food. We see it here sometimes. When you go back to get the xray results ask about getting tested for Celiac disease. I think if they saw anything really bad on the xray, they would call you right away. -

I appreciate your honesty about the ED. Sorry but I have to ask this because you have an eating disorder and this is common in people with EDs - Does anyone else think your belly looks big? what does your counselor think of this? -

ARCHIVED I Got Glutened By....my Own Stupidity!
kareng replied to tonalynn's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
gluten happens! When I first got diagnosed, my youngest was about 12. He decided to be the gluten police. He would grab things out of my hand if he thought they looked too much like the non gluten-free version ( like Oreos or gluten-free cookie dough ice cream ). He and his dad and brother made me some gluten-free brownies. They put butterscotch chips...
